Learning a foreign language has several benefits, including improved cognitive abilities from brain training, increased self-esteem from a sense of identity and belonging, and exposure to new cultures which can build bridges between people and foster greater tolerance and appreciation of other perspectives. Foreign language education should integrate models of self-esteem development and provide cultural experiences to realize these benefits.
