This document discusses how an enterprise content management (ECM) system is vital for a successful Guidewire implementation. It notes that while Guidewire integrators are experienced with Guidewire, they have little expertise with ECM. The document advocates using an ECM expert to help optimize document input streams and ensure a smooth implementation. It presents The Dayhuff Group's Guidewire-FileNet framework, which includes assessments, architecture design, and experienced resources to integrate Guidewire, FileNet, and Thunderhead and manage the ECM transformation process.
Moving the Guidewire platform to OSGi - Paul D'Alboramfrancis
OSGi DevCon 2012
Guidewire Software builds advanced applications for the insurance industry. With over a hundred customers in a dozen countries, including global giants like AXA, Geico, and Tokyo Marine, our applications handle tens of billions of dollars worth of business every year.
The Guidewire platform provides core services to its applications, and is oriented toward a high degree of customer extensibility. This talk is about the first phase of our project to migrate the Guidewire platform to OSGi. We describe our motivations for moving to OSGi, challenges we faced in "getting off the ground," and how we expect to take advantage of OSGi. Topics include:
Using bnd to build OSGi metadata
Using fragments to create an initial "mega bundle"
Embedding an OSGi container inside a J2EE app server
Bundling 3rd-party jars
Using Declarative Services as our component model
Integrating tools like bnd into a custom build and development environment
We also discuss how we plan to leverage OSGi, including:
Replacing a proprietary plugin architecture with OSGi services
Reducing the cognitive burden within development through truly separate components
Enabling testing in isolation, both at the class level and at the bundle level
The Guidewire suite of products are great point solutions. But what happens when people outside of a Guidewire user group (like people in the legal department) need access to documents located in PolicyCenter? The answer is simple: they can’t. Learn how to bridge department silos so your organization always has enterprise-wide visibility and accessibility of documents.
The Reality of Managing Microservices in Your CD PipelineDevOps.com
As we shift from monolithic software development practices to microservices, our well-designed CD pipeline will need to change. Microservices are small functions, deployed independently and linked via APIs at run-time. While these differences seem minor, they actually have a large impact on your overall CD structure. Think hundreds of workflows, small of any builds and the loss of a monolithic 'application.'

The rise in big data, as well as the looming impact of the Internet of Things (IoT), has highlighted how different data is today than a decade ago, from everything from the gathering sources to usage of information. With the data revolution, enterprises are able to take data generated from people and machines to turn into insight that may ultimately refine how they operate, as well as allow them to innovate and solve complex industry issues.
For enterprises looking to capitalize on the data growth, they need to ensure that not only is there enough power to meet computing demands, but that it’s reliable, renewable, energy-efficient and cost effective.
This presentation will explore how Verne Global and Datapipe are working together to enable enterprises to better their business decisions with the help of data. Through firsthand knowledge, the session will highlight what companies must do to ensure sufficient infrastructure and computing capabilities are in place as they look towards future innovation.
Business and IT leaders are understandably reluctant to retire considerable, legacy investment in technology, people, and processes due to security, risk, and regulatory compliance obligations. This creates a hybrid IT deployment model: an on-premise landscape of existing or legacy systems and off-premise cloud deployment of suitable IT capability.
The ODCA believes that integration of cloud deployments with enterprise landscapes should consider people, process, technology, and operating models. Doing so encourages faster cloud adoption, leverages existing enterprise investments in IT landscape and helps govern safe cloud adoption through effective risk and compliance management.

Comparing Legacy and Modern e-commerce solutionsMike Ensor
As a result of fantastic growth, the software industry has undergone the next step in "solution evolution" over the past 5 years. Enablement tools like Docker, AWS/GCE/Azure, OSS visibility/availability and architecture structures such as distributed computation, microservices, event sourcing and reactive solutions have brought forth more robust and scaleable solutions. The platforms of the past have either kept up with the trends and become more nimble and lean, or have fallen off to the side and become relics of the past.
This deck discusses the differences between large monolithic e-commerce platforms versus more modern, lean e-commerce frameworks and why architectural structures are important when selecting a platform to increase the likelihood of future proofing your solution.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
Enterprise Resource Planning System includes various modules that reduce any business's workload. Additionally, it organizes the workflows, which drives towards enhancing productivity. Here are a detailed explanation of the ERP modules. Going through the points will help you understand how the software is changing the work dynamics.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

capabilities to minimize risk and loss.
Editor's Notes
We don’t compete on a regular basis with GW integrators (PWC, Crow, E&Y, ETC.),
Having a fast claims processing engine and taped together input streams will not allow you to realize your investment. Items commonly over looked are mobile, amount of forms automation, fraud investigation enhancements.
The way you are capturing and indexing your documents today is not the way guidewire expects them. The metadata you are captureing will not be what is identified in the use cases and GW will need specific information from a document at a specific step in the process to move a process along. If the metadata changes the forms template changes and the auto indexing changes. The existing documents metadata may need to be dumped and the metadata field repopulated.
GW needs information feed to it as it defines the workflow to operate properly. If not you will slow down the workflow.
Interacting with guidewire from office applications is a critical function to the users. Storing a word document or a spreadsheet directly from Office seems like a remedial task, but is the user has to enter to much or make several clicks to just get it into guidewire it will cause dissatisfaction. Getting very detailed on the use cases for the desktop experience is necessary to make sure the information guidewire expects to get is received and conversely pulling data from guidewire or filenet or other to reduce the amount of indexing the user has to do will enhance the users experience. This needs to be done for every use case.
You are going to build this great backend system with tons of capabilities, but If a user can’t efficiently store an office document to GW they will say the system is not working well.
You may not choose to deploy the mobile functionality of guidewire now, but I bet your users are aware of it. If you do you need to distinctly define the use cases and the functionality that will be used. Guidewire will tell you that they handle all of the workflow in the GW product. This is true for the most part, but in our experience there are adhoc and one off workflows that you will run into that will require workflow outside GW. One example is fraud investigation.
Most insurance company operate for the most part alike. About 75% of the work they perform will look much like the work in any other insurance company in the nation. The 25% is what make them unique and is their go to market strategy. By having the use cases defined for 75% of the work it allows you to focus on the 25% that make you unique.
You are going to blow up the scanning and indexing operation as it works today to make sure it fits how GW is being implemented. This will require an evaluation of the entire solution to make sure is meets your performance requirements.
GW is a transformational solution and will require you to address your ECM solution as a transformational asset as well we have 17 yrs experience in ECM transformational project to guide you through this process
Most GW implementation we have seen have program mangers that run different parts of the project and then a program manager owner. There is typically a program mgr for the GW piece, one for the integrations efforts and one for the ECM component. Are you planning on structuring in this fashion? We have a PM that can guide the ECM effort and ensure it is in-line with all of the other programs. You would be surprised the number of times a decision in one area to more or slip a schedule causes a ripple effect in the other programs that cost weeks and months.
