Be The Talk Of The Town - How To Maximize Your Media CoverageJim Norris
Have you shared your music and story with dozens or even hundreds of media outlets and received little to no response or publicity? There are probably many reasons for that, and what's more, they likely have little or nothing to do with the quality of the music.
Regardless of whether they work in print, television, radio, or the blogosphere, every music and arts journalist in the country receives dozens of pitches every week - even every day - and pays attention to only a small fraction of them. So what separates the artists that score coverage from those who don't?
Join us for this webinar to find out.
Canadian Musician's Andrew King and Mike Raine will put you into the mindset of a music journalist and explain why and how they decide to cover certain artists.
Topics will include:
- Who to target in the media
- Making a first impression
- Putting together an effective media kit
- Finding & telling your story
- What media wants from you
- Effective follow-up

Her music style has changed slightly to fit different audiences. Beyoncé is considered a "synthetic act" as her image and branding are more prominent than her music alone. In contrast, bands like Coldplay focus on their music over their image, with little change to their album artwork or style over time.

They typically dress casually and listen to music on devices like iPods. Many visit the band's official website and YouTube to watch concerts. The document supports most assumptions about Led Zeppelin fans, except that they do not seem to enjoy sports as much as initially predicted due to their older age.
Justin Bieber's father, Jeremy Bieber, named Justin's YouTube channel "Kidrauhl" based on Jeremy's own nickname "Lordrauhl". Jeremy took the name "Lordrauhl" from the main character in a book series he enjoyed reading. He started calling his son "Kidrauhl" as a play on his own nickname.

MTV was one of the first channels to recognize the importance of music videos to the music industry and began broadcasting them 24/7 starting in 1981. Before MTV, music videos were short clips or films used to promote music but focused more on the music than the artist. Independent labels have more freedom than major labels but less marketing power. Major labels work with established or potentially mainstream artists.
Major labels such as Sony Music Entertainment own the majority of the global music market. They have significant financial resources that allow them to widely distribute, market, and sign new talent. They can be more creative in finding and developing new artists as well as adopting new media technologies. Roughtrade was founded in 1976 and helped launch the careers of influential punk bands in the late 1970s. It is now part of the Beggars Group and continues to specialize in genres like punk, indie pop, and post-punk.

"Does Foreign Direct Investment Negatively Affect Preservation of Culture in the Global South? Case Studies in Thailand and Cambodia."
Do elements of globalization, such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), negatively affect the ability of countries in the Global South to preserve their culture? This research aims to answer this question by employing a cross-sectional comparative case study analysis utilizing methods of difference. Thailand and Cambodia are compared as they are in the same region and have a similar culture. The metric of difference between Thailand and Cambodia is their ability to preserve their culture. This ability is operationalized by their respective attitudes towards FDI; Thailand imposes stringent regulations and limitations on FDI while Cambodia does not hesitate to accept most FDI and imposes fewer limitations. The evidence from this study suggests that FDI from globally influential countries with high gross domestic products (GDPs) (e.g. China, U.S.) challenges the ability of countries with lower GDPs (e.g. Cambodia) to protect their culture. Furthermore, the ability, or lack thereof, of the receiving countries to protect their culture is amplified by the existence and implementation of restrictive FDI policies imposed by their governments.
My study abroad in Bali, Indonesia, inspired this research topic as I noticed how globalization is changing the culture of its people. I learned their language and way of life which helped me understand the beauty and importance of cultural preservation. I believe we could all benefit from learning new perspectives as they could help us ideate solutions to contemporary issues and empathize with others.
