Plastic wrap is a thin plastic film typically used to seal food and keep it fresh. It clings to surfaces without adhesive and remains tight over container openings. Plastic wrap was invented in 1953 by a scientist experimenting with hard plastic car covers. His experiment failed but he discovered the usefulness of the thin plastic film he created. Plastic wrap was first made from PVC but non-PVC alternatives are now available due to health concerns. Littered plastic wrap contributes to global warming by trapping heat in the atmosphere and melting sea ice. The presentation concludes people should reuse plastic wrap to reduce environmental impact.
