This document lists and describes various icons from the 11th-12th centuries located in monasteries and museums. The icons depicted religious scenes and figures from Christianity including the Nativity, Annunciation, Crucifixion, Lamentation, and the Madonna. Many of the icons came from monasteries on Mount Sinai and in Macedonia, Cyprus, and other regions. This was a period where icon painting developed a new poetic and rhetorical style with enhanced presence and realism.
