Axial Movements
The axial movement is a movement of the flexible bellows in the direction of the longitudinal
axis. This movements can be compressive, where the bellows are shorten in length, or
extensive where the bellows extends in length. In the majority of applications, the flexible
bellows is deemed necessary because of the increasing temperature of the pipe system.
Lateral Movement
The lateral expansion joint is normally equipped with fixtures such as external tie rods, which
allows the unit to absorb movements in all lateral direction but also absorbs the pressure thrust

What is Expansion Piping?
The Expansion Piping or vent pipe is a pipe associated with the cold water storage cistern or
feed an expansion cistern. Its purpose is to accommodate the expansion piping of water when
it is heated, and allow passing the excess water to vent harmlessly into the cistern.
What is Expansion Piping?
An Expansion piping joint is installed in piping systems for couple of reasons. Not only can they
be used absorbed the vibration and shock they can be relieve the anchor stress, reduce noise
and compensate for misalignment. Certain Piping Expansion Joint are also designed for thermal
expansion in very hot applications

Rubber can be used for thermal expansion, and it also absorbs the vibration and shock waves
extremely well. That’s why this type of expansion joint is great for minimizing the transmission
noise, Vibration from other equipment to protect equipment like pumps
Braided
The braided stainless hoses with the flexible or metal liners aren’t technically an expansion
joint, more of a flexible connector. They work well in high pressure and temperature of
applications requiring the vibration dampening or pipe misalignments
