2. Cerotic acid (15%)

6. PROPERTIES
1. State :- Semi solid
2. Odour :- Honey like
3. Taste :- faint
4. Brittle when cold but becoming plastic when warm
5. Insoluble in water
sparingly soluble in cold alcohol
completely soluble in CHCl3 , ether & volatile oils.
6. Melting point :- -60⁰C to 65⁰C
7. Contains 70% of ester’s

7. IDENTIFICATION
I. Acid Value – 17 to 23
II. Iodine value – 8 to 11

8. USES
Stiffening agent and as an ingredient of yellow
ointment
Used as component of cerates & ointments
