This document outlines the qualifications needed to become a Timothy. It discusses 5 key characteristics: 1. - 2. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED 1. Timothy’s must be trainable material •Many believers are not trainable. They argue & resist. They still have issues • Acts 19:8-12 i. They become hardened in their hearts. They lose the capacity to be moulded. Resist change. ii. They become disobedient. They know the truth but don’t do it. Non-practising believers. iii. They speak evil of the way things are done. They are loose-mouthed & critical.
- 3. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED 2. Timothy’s must be well spoken-of by others •I cannot train Christians who have a bad testimony. A bad name will cut short a good ministry. • Acts 15:36-41 This is an important apostolic assignment to set doctrines right in every church. John Mark lacked character.
- 4. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED 3. Timothy’s must be willing to move forward in the fresh new way of life • Acts 16:1-4 Timothy embraced a new change (circumcision)for the new walk &ministry. • Every Timothy has to be raised up in a unique way to fit their call & the future demands. • Everyone is trained differently in warfare. •Parents know how to prepare each of their children because they are different.
- 5. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED 4. Timothy’s must have their foundations re-laid for the future •What you may have at present is not enough. Old foundations are insufficient for what will need to be built. • Acts 18:24-26 Apollos only knew the past doctrines •You must be updated & upgraded to the new. Even in technology there are advancements •Determine to keep moving forward & not stop as previous moves of God had done.
- 6. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED 5. Timothy’s must become carriers of all that I have & all that I am. •Phil. 2:19-24 Paul felt that only Timothy could represent him & his concerns accurately. •Psalm 127:1-5 Arrows must be in the quiver on the battlefield & not in the storehouse. These are sons & daughters that move with me & whom I can use.

- 9. TIMOTHY CHARACTERISTICS 1. A Timothy will represent me (v.19) He is entrusted as a steward of my reputation - Before the peoples (church, society) - At the city gates (work, official places) He functions as an ambassador. - He is the expression of Kingdom truth & life within his context. - He represents the King & the Kingdom community well.
- 10. TIMOTHY CHARACTERISTICS 2. A Timothy makes identical prophetic assessments (v.19b) He interprets and reads a situation accurately. He perceives the nature of a problem. His report-back of a situation reveals the spirit of wisdom & discernment. He may even provide the needed counsel to redeem the situation.
- 11. TIMOTHY CHARACTERISTICS 3. A Timothy will have a kindred spirit with me(v.20) He possesses the same drive & passion. He possesses the same spirit dimensions i.e. the same inner dynamics of the spirit life. He is NOT a clone of me. He has different personality expression but carries the same spirit intensity.
- 12. TIMOTHY CHARACTERISTICS 4. A Timothy shares my concern & burden (v.21) He carries the same burden & vision. He is concerned with the same issues & needs. He has tested me to know that my concerns are not selfish. It’s the burden of the Lord.
- 13. TIMOTHY CHARACTERISTICS 5. A Timothy seeks after Christ’s interest for the house (v. 21b) He learns to know the heart of Father God. He learns to follow the Spirit of Christ. He finds access to the will & plans of Christ. He knows the passion the Father has for His people & the house. He gets to know the Builder & Maker of the house.
