Anxiety is a disorder that causes depression, nervousness, worrying, and fear. It causes unnecessary amounts of worry that often leads to people not being able to function. Anxiety usually effects ones mood and behavior in such a way to where they can’t function properly. This often causes them to lose sleep. Anxiety can create a severe impact on the daily life of the individual suffering from anxiety/ depression. There are many things that can cause anxiety depending on the individual, however, listed above are the most common reasons why people are diagnosed with anxiety.
There are foods that you can stay away from to create an anti-anxiety diet. One food that you want to stay away from when you are struggling with anxiety is fried foods. Fried foods are harsh on the body, fried foods are hard for the body to digest. Fried foods also little to no nutritional value. Alcohol itself is bad for the body. When too much is consumed it can cause people to do irrational things that can lead to worry and anxiety. It skews one’s nutritional balance and hormones and dehydrates the body. In moderation, coffee is okay for the body. However, when excess amounts of coffee is consumed it acts as an anxiety stimulant, which then leads to anxiety. Coffee also increases the heart beat, which creates anxiety, and can lead to panic attacks. When dairy products are consumed in great amounts it heightens one’s adrenalin levels which creates a more anxious state. When dairy products are consumed in moderations, they aren’t bad for the body. Refined sugars, such as white sugar, causes one to jitter that exacerbates anxiety symptoms. Acid forming foods drop magnesium levels. Acid forming foods are yogurt, pickles, eggs, wine, etc. Magnesium is known to cause anxiety.
Using the Super Tracker provided on www.choosemyplate.gov we are able to see the amount of nutrients that we are intaking. Not only can you see the nutrients that you are consuming over a given amount of time, but you can also see if you are taking in enough, too much, or a good amount. From the arrow directed above, you can see that magnesium is pointed out. In the previous slide it explains that we need to watch our magnesium levels.
Fruit is good for reducing anxiety because it contains sugars that can be converted to energy and has nutrients that are necessary for the body as well. Blueberries and peaches, specifically, are known to reduce anxiety more so than other fruits. Vegetables lower anxiety levels because vegetables are rich in fiber and nutrients that diminish anxiety regularly. Water is always good for the body. Without water it causes the body to get dehydrated which leads to anxiety. It is very important to make sure you intake enough water on a daily basis. Tryptophan rich foods reduce anxiety significantly. Oats, soy, fish, and sesame seeds are good examples of foods rich in tryptophan. Foods rich in tryptophan have a natural relaxation component.
