EASTER
EASTER
This is the biggest
Christian holiday. It is
handled in remembrance
of the Resurrection of
Christ. They are movable
holidays (there is no
specific date) but we
always celebrate them in
the spring. Easter is
preceded by a 40-day Lent
and Holy Week.
LENT
The period of Lent is a time
of calm and reflection. It
begins on Ash Wednesday,
where masses are held in
the Churches, where ash is
sprinkled with ashes
obtained from burnt palm
branches. The Lent season
ends with the celebrations of
the Holy Week liturgy.
WAY OF THE CROSS
During Lent, the Way of
the Cross takes place
on Friday evenings in
the Churches. It
involves considering the
Passion of Christ and
crossing the road
consisting of 14
stations.
PALM SUNDAY
Palm Sunday, once
called April's Sunday
(from April) or
Willow, symbolizes
the ceremonial entry
of Jesus Christ on a
donkey to Jerusalem.
Every Christian goes
to church with his
palms.
HOLY WEEK
It starts on Palm Sunday. This
is the last Sunday before
Easter. Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday of Holy Week are
special days dedicated to
reconciliation. The rest of the
days is the Paschal Triduum.
GREAT THURSDAY
Only one solemn Mass
is celebrated in the
churches in the
evening - the Mass of
the Lord's Supper,
which begins the
Paschal Triduum.
GOOD FRIDAY
On this day, strict fasts
are in force. On Good
Friday, the services of
the Way of the Cross are
celebrated.
GREAT SATURDAY
This is the time of mourning for the crucified
Christ. Traditionally, the food on the Easter
table is celebrated on this day.
Easter Otherwise called
the Great
Sunday. On this
day after the
morning Mass
called
resurrection we
sit down to the
Easter breakfast,
during which we
share the egg.
Wet Monday
Śmigus – dyngus
It is also called Monday and it occurs after Holy
Week. It is a game that everyone knows well.
You can then watered with water.
