4. Objective of economizer cleaning

▪ To clean the economizer bundle choked with deposits
consisting of vanadium and Sulphur .
▪ To increase the heat transfer rate in the economizer
bundle as the outlet heat temperature is getting close to
the boiler trip point.
▪ The cleaning will thus improve the reliability of the boiler
operation and HFO consumption will be reduced .
5. ▪ Babcock found a new procedure for cleaning the deposits by high pressure
water jetting at around 700 to 1000 bar at around 160 to 230 liters per
minute .
▪ The system includes a high pressure jetting pump with a high flow rate , HP
hoses , special cleaning nozzles and number of special attachments for the
rotation , forward and backward motion of the nozzles.
▪ The process is automatic and not hand operated .

8. ▪ Cleaning of economizer bundle in unit 1 and 2 during emergency
shutdown(for 4 days)
▪ The cleaning was done to reduce the temperature of economizer as it was
very high in the range of 434 degree Celsius at 220 Mw before cleaning.
▪ The results after cleaning were very satisfactory to the client and the
temperature at 220 Mw were in the range of 357 to 367 degree celsius.
