The document discusses BBFC film ratings and compares the film rating systems between the UK and US. Regarding two specific film trailers, it provides reasoning for rating ratings of:
The Smurfs as a U, as the trailer is appropriate for all ages despite some mild violence that is not sadistic.
Maleficent as a PG, as it is based on a fairy tale but contains some sensitive scenes parents may not want young children to see, such as a witch throwing fairies or a fight.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 as a 12A/PG-13, as the trailer does not contain strong violence, language or other content unsuitable for ages 12 and

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

3. Mandela Long
Walk To
Freedom
I rated similar this trailer as BBFC examiners.
I identified weapons, in the trailer I can see
gun. Also without any problem I can see
discrimination among black people.
Moreover you can see violence, fights etc.
So I rate it as 15 +, however BBFC Examiners
gave PG, as they said that ‘ we don’t see
any blood or injuries, and there is a strong,
positive feeling running throughout the
whole trailer.’
I learn that even there is weapon in the
trailer or violence, they children above eight
years old can watch this with parents.
4. I rated similar this trailer as BBFC examiners.
However I identified weapons, as in the
trailer you can see whip. Similar I recognise
discrimination among black people, as they
were white people’s slaves. Moreover I can
see violence, outright sadistic violence again
among black people. Through that I rates
movie as a 15 +, however BBFC Examiners
gave PG, as they said that ‘despite the often
threatening tone, the violence is mostly
impressionistic, with no strong detail of any
blood or injuries. There are also no racist
terms used during the verbal abuse and
racism is implicitly condemned.’
I learn that children aged 12 can watch films
even with violence and discrimination
theme.

Slave

Language
Mild bad language only. Aggressive or very frequent use of mild bad language may result in a work being passed at a higher category.

There may be nudity with no sexual context.

12A/12 – Suitable for 12 years
and over
9. UK vs. US rating
The United Kingdom
U: Universal, suitable for all
PG: Parental Guidance
12/12A: Suitable for 12 years and over
15: Suitable for 15 years and over
18: Suitable only for adults
The United States
G: General audiences
PG: Parental guidance suggested
PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned
R: Restricted
NC-17: No-one 17 and under admitted
At first comparison, it might appear that the American system of film rating is more liberal than that used in the UK, in that
younger viewers are technically allowed to see higher rated films in US theatres.
In British cinemas, parents/adults accompanying children are not allowed to take youngsters below 12 years olds into any
film rated higher than 12A. However, in the US, adults are permitted to take children of any age up to 17 years old to see a
film that has been passed as high as R (‘Restricted’)
The only film category that youngsters are expressly prohibited from seeing in US cinemas is the NC-17 – the rough
equivalent of the UK 18 rating. US rating board stating that NC-17 does not mean “obscene” or “pornographic” in the
common or legal meaning of those words, and should not be construed as a negative judgment in any sense. The rating
simply signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience’
11. The Smurfs – U
I would rate ‘the smurfs’ a U, because this trailer doesn’t contain
any discrimination, bad language, drugs etc. The trailer seen to
be appropriate for people in all ages, but especially young
children
However we can see violence, for
example when on of the smurfs kicks a
cat .
But this doesn’t make film
unappropriated for young audience as
this violence is not sadistic
12. Maleficent – PG
I rated this trailers as PG, as this is based on fairy tale,
however some scenes are really sensitive and some parents
maybe doesn't wish their children to watch it.
For example when
witch throw Fairies
Or when there is fight
13. The mockingjay pt1– 15
I rated this trailers as 12A or PG13
because I think this trailers doesn’t
contain to much violence with details
or doesn’t include strong language, so
therefore I think this film is suitable
for children aged 12 and over.
