WHAT IS GROUP DISCUSSION ? 
 Group discussion is a discussion among 
participants who have an agreed topic.

Why Group Discussion? 
 GD allows you to exchange information and ideas. 
 It enhances learning –you learn more. 
 It shows how you behave, participate and contribute 
to the group. 
 It shows you your weakness –it improves you. 
 It tests how you function as a part of a team.

How to face GD? 
Some essentials: - 
 Knowledge base. 
 Alertness and presence of mind. 
 Confidence. 
 Leadership. 
 Listening Skills. 
 Team Skill. 
 Goal Oriented.

Do’s of participating in a GD. 
 Listen to the subject carefully. 
 Put down your thoughts on a paper. 
 Try to stick on the discussion topic. 
 Be aware of your body language when you are 
speaking. 
 Give others a chance to speak. 
 Listen to others if you don’t know the subject.

Don’ts of a GD 
 Lose your temper, A discussion is not an 
argument. 
 Shout, use a moderate tone and medium pitch. 
 Use too many gesture when you speak, Gestures 
like: Fingure pointing and table thumping can 
appear aggressive. 
 Try to dominate the discussion. 
 Argue and sought during the GD. 
 Initiate the discussion if you don’t have sufficient 
knowledge about the given topic.

Tips for an effective GD 
 There is a clear unity of purpose. 
 The group is self conscious about its operations. 
 The group has set clear and demanding 
performance goals. 
 The atmosphere trends to be informal, 
comfortable and relaxed. 
 There is lot of discussion in which virtually 
everyone participate. 
 People are free in expressing there feeling as 
well as there ideas.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INTERVIEW? 
 The term interview has been derived from the 
French word ‘Intrevoir’ that means “to see each 
other”. 
 Personal Interview means an interaction between 
two or more persons for a specific purposes.

TYPES OF PERSONAL INTERVIEW 
 Job Interview. 
 Exit interview. 
 Appraisal / evaluation interview. 
 Stress interview.

ROLE OF INTERVIEW 
 Preparing to conduct interview:- 
-Screen the applications and shortlist the applicants 
who are,on the face of it,fit for interview. 
-make sure your interview call reaches them in time 
and gives all necessary instruction. 
-make the interview room friendly. 
During interview:- 
-Let each interview board member have a file on the 
candidate and paper for making notings. 
-receive the candidate with a warm,cautious 
welcome. 
-avoid cross-talk among board members. 
-Listen well.

  • 4. Why Group Discussion?  GD allows you to exchange information and ideas.  It enhances learning –you learn more.  It shows how you behave, participate and contribute to the group.  It shows you your weakness –it improves you.  It tests how you function as a part of a team. 4 SVCM
  • 5. How to face GD? Some essentials: -  Knowledge base.  Alertness and presence of mind.  Confidence.  Leadership.  Listening Skills.  Team Skill.  Goal Oriented. 5 SVCM
  • 6. Do’s of participating in a GD.  Listen to the subject carefully.  Put down your thoughts on a paper.  Try to stick on the discussion topic.  Be aware of your body language when you are speaking.  Give others a chance to speak.  Listen to others if you don’t know the subject. 6 SVCM

Don’ts of a GD  Lose your temper, A discussion is not an argument.  Shout, use a moderate tone and medium pitch.  Use too many gesture when you speak, Gestures like: Fingure pointing and table thumping can appear aggressive.  Try to dominate the discussion.  Argue and sought during the GD.  Initiate the discussion if you don’t have sufficient knowledge about the given topic. 7 SVCM

Tips for an effective GD  There is a clear unity of purpose.  The group is self conscious about its operations.  The group has set clear and demanding performance goals.  The atmosphere trends to be informal, comfortable and relaxed.  There is lot of discussion in which virtually everyone participate.  People are free in expressing there feeling as well as there ideas. 8 SVCM

ROLE OF INTERVIEW  Preparing to conduct interview:- -Screen the applications and shortlist the applicants who are,on the face of it,fit for interview. -make sure your interview call reaches them in time and gives all necessary instruction. -make the interview room friendly. During interview:- -Let each interview board member have a file on the candidate and paper for making notings. -receive the candidate with a warm,cautious welcome. -avoid cross-talk among board members. -Listen well. 11 SVCM
