A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

The Answer is: A whole bunch of very different things. X-Ray, Ultra Sonic Transmission, Vibro Thermography, Fluorescent Penetrant, Eddie Current, Computed Tomography (CT)
The Data has to having some element that makes it possible to integrate it. That Element is the the actual physical specimen. Part of what we are doing is adding spatial awareness to all the. The great thing about this diverse data is that we can know a lot about an object. And what we really want to do is make a Digital Twin!
Nope, not quite. A Digital would be a model of an actual part, or machine. Right now we have a lot of models of things, CAD Models, FEA models but those are usually models of an idealize generic part. Anyone who actually makes things know there is a difference between what you planned to make and what you actually make. The Digital twin uses that original model of what you intended to make and NDE data to give a better representation of an actual part in use.
Example: I have an wind turbine in service….
So what is the problem…. Uncertainty!!
Because it exists! We get things wrong, we perceive things incorrectly, and measurements are faulty
