The basilisk is an amphibious lizard that lives in rainforests and has the unique ability to run on water. It is able to do this through three methods: being very light, moving its legs fast to create bubbles that keep it afloat, and having fringes that trap air bubbles. Humans hunting basilisks for their skins and predators like snakes and birds are the main threats to their population.
