VOLLEYBALL
A PICTURE IS WORTH A
THOUSAND WORDS
In volleyball, the team players
score by hitting or striking a ball

opponents cannot hit it back and
make a return.
PLAYING

type involves placing the ball and
protecting the court.
To defend the team’s space and
for the players to return the ball,
the players must position

opponents from returning the
ball.
BENEFITS OF
PLAYING VOLLEYBALL

BASIC SKILLS
INVOLVED IN
VOLLEYBALL
FOREARM PASS
A fundamental skill used to control the
ball and direct it to a teammate,
typically the seater.
OVERHEAD PASS
A skill used to control the ball with the
fingertips above the head, guiding it
to a specific location for an attack to
hit.
OVERHAND SERVE
A technique where the player tosses
the ball in the air and strikes it with
the palm of their hand, raising their
arm above their head.
UNDERHAND SERVE
A serving technique where the ball is
stuck with the palm of the hand,
typically from a position slightly below
the waist.
FOREARM PASS
Keep your eyes on the ball, and align yourself with the path of the ball, ready for
contact. Bring your forearms together to make a platform for the ball to hit.
Bend your knees with one foot in front of the other. Strike the ball with your
forearms just above the wrist.
OVERHEAD PASS
Place your hands a little closer above your head, forming a diamond shape.
Keep your hands and fingers soft but firm. Position behind and underneath the
ball, and face the target. Keep your knees soft ready to bend, and push up with
set. Push the ball straight, and follow through to the target.
OVERHAND SERVE
Toss the ball an arm’s length to make a contact. Rotate your trunk and
shoulder with a flexed high elbow, and extend to hit the ball. Hit the back of
the ball toward the opposite court.
UNDERHAND SERVE
Position your feet in an up-and-back stride position with the weight on the
back right foot. Hold the ball with one hand in front of your body just below
your waist. Shoulders and upper body should be slightly leaning forward.
Swing your arm backward then forward in a pendulum manner. Weight is
then transferred to the front foot as the arm swing to hit the ball. Hit the
ball with the flat part of your fits and palm. Make a-follow-through.
Stand 5-6 feet back from the net. Run to the net as the
ball is approaching. Swing your arms behind your body
to support you in the jump. Jump off the ground as high
as you can. Bring your arm behind your body with your
palm open. Hit the ball with your palm and fingers.
Make a follow-through by bringing your hitting arm
down across your body
