2017 SCHEDULE/RESULTS
COMING UP
After a week of schedule changes and travel plans
due to the threat of Hurricane Irma, the Lady Buffs
of West Texas A&M will take part in the Lindenwood
Last Minute Challenge at Hyland Arena in St. Charles,
Missouri. WT will take on Missouri-St. Louis, Illinois-
Springfield, Missouri Western and Truman State in
the nine-team event.
- SCOUTING THE FIELD
MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
The Tritons are guided by seventh year head coach
Ryan Young who has led USML to six-straight GLVC
Tournament appearances.
USML enters the weekend with an overall record of
3-1 with wins over East Central, Pittsburg State and
Emporia State last weekend in Topeka, Kansas.
The Tritons are led offensively by Kylie Rudsinski
(47 kills) and Alex Minder (40 kills). Madyson Abeyta
paces the USML offense with 109 assists while
Danielle Waedekin leads the way with 84 digs.
ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars are guided by third year head
coach Trey Salinas who spent three seasons as the
top assistant at Belmont Abbey College.
UIS enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-0
following wins over Ohio Valley, Concord, Mississippi
College and Oakland City last weekend.
Illinois-Springfield is led offensively by Alyssa Hasler
(40 kills) and Erin Ripple (31 kills) while Lexi Hall has
dished out 72 assists so far this season, Ally Vicsik
leads the way defensively with 40 digs.
MISSOURI WESTERN
Missouri Western is led by fifth year head coach
Marion Carbin who has led the Griffons to a pair of
20-win seasons.
The Griffons enter the weekend with an overall
record of 1-3 following a win over Davenport while
falling to #14 Ferris State, Grand Valley State and
Northern Michigan last weekend.
MWSU is led offensively by Shellby Taylor (35 kills)
and Ali Tauchen (34 kills) while Lauren Murphy paces
the Griffon offense with 119 assists. Kayla Ruff leads
the way defensively with 67 digs.
TRUMAN STATE
Truman State is led by ninth year head coach
Ben Briney who has led the Bulldogs to six NCAA
Postseason appearances.
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with an overall
record of 1-3 following the Quality Inn Ashland Invite
last weekend with a win over Urbana while falling to
Lake Erie, Ashland and Pitt-Johnstown.
Truman State is led offensively by Jasmine Brown
(36 kills) and Sam Yancy (33 kills) while Savvy
Hughes paces the Bulldog offense with 130 assists.
Lauren Wacker leads the way defensively with 62
digs.
BRITKARE LADY BUFF CLASSIC RECAP
WT started off the 2017 season on a high note
as they topped Southwestern Oklahoma State,
Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and St. Mary’s
during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. WT hit .311 as
a team with 174 kills on 412 swings with 46 attack
errors to go along with 165 assists, 33 service aces,
174 digs and 36 total blocks. Selena Batiste was
named the Tournament MVP while freshman Erin
Clark was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the
best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball,
in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more
affectionately known as “The Box,” is home to 19
Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional
Titles and three NCAA Division II National Champi-
onships. The WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box” boats
one of the best home winning records in the
NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs
are 457-72 at The Box since the 1980 season for
an incredible winning percentage of 86.4%.
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time Lone
Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his
ninth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carry-
ing an overall career record of 374-80 (.823, 12th
year) including a 238-61 (.796) mark in Canyon.
Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appear-
ances in the NCAA Postseason with three South
Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up
finish in 2009.

LADY BUFF LSC WEEKLY HONORS
SETTER OF THE WEEK: Batiste had a breakout
weekend during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic as
the Portland native was named the MVP of the
event, dishing out a tournament-high 150 assists
to average 11.54 per set to go along with eight
kills, seven service aces and 26 digs. Batiste reg-
istered 64 assists on Day 1 in wins over SWOSU
and CSUP before a 50 assist performance against
Adams State in WT’s only non-sweep victory of
the weekend before 36 assists in the tournament
finale against St. Mary’s.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Thomas had
a monster weekend for the Lady Buffs as the
senior led WT to wins over Southwestern Okla-
homa, Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and
St. Mary’s during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic.
The San Antonio native averaged 1.62 blocks per
set with 21 total blocks to help hold opponents to
a .123 hitting percentage. Thomas posted a dou-
ble-double with a league-high 10 blocks against
Adams State in a four-set victory to go along with
11 kills while hitting .346. She recorded 26 kills on
58 swings with seven attack errors to hit .328 on
the weekend to go along with five service aces
and eight digs.

87CONSECUTIVE LSC VICTORIES - The Lady Buffs
own the NCAA Division II record for consecutive wins against
conference opponents, WT claimed 87 straight wins against the
Lone Star Conference between September 8, 2006 and September 13, 2011.
During that five-year span, the Lady Buffs claimed five Lone Star Conference
Championships and made three appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight with a
National Runner-Up finish in 2009.
26ALL-AMERICANS - The Lady Buffs have produced an im-
pressive number of 26 All-Americans in program history including
a pair of DII National Players of the Year: Cristina Pereira (1991)
and Sarah Butler-Carthel (1997,1999).
19LSC CHAMPIONSHIPS - To say that the Lady Buffs
have dominated the Lone Star Conference over the past three
decades would be an understatement. The Lady Buffs own a
278-48 overall record in the LSC, winning an staggering 86 percent of their
matches.
13REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - The Lady Buffs
have claimed 13 South Central Regional Titles on their way to the
Division II Elite Eight during their 25 all-time appearances in the
NCAA Postseason.
1,030VICTORIES SINCE 1980 - The Lady Buffs
have dominated Division II Volleyball dating back to the
1980 season. Since that time, the Lady Buffs are 1,030-
378-2 which is a winning percentage of over 72 percent.
25NCAA POSTSEASON APPEARANCES - The
Lady Buffs have one of the most storied programs in all of NCAA
Division II. Since 1988, WT has made an incredible 25 appearanc-
es in the NCAA Postseason including 10 straight. The Lady Buffs rank fifth
all-time in postseason appearances trailing only Central Missouri (32), Tampa
(30), New Haven (29) and Fl. Southern (28).

3NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - Winning a National
Championship in any level of competition is an impressive feat, the
Lady Buffs have claimed the highest prize in all of NCAA Division II
Volleyball three times in the program’s history in 1990, 1991 and 1997.

2017 LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL GAME NOTES
	 	 Entering his ninth season at West Texas A&M in 2017, head coach
Jason Skoch looks to build upon the great success of his first eight
years as the Lady Buffs’ leader.
	 	 The 2014 campaign was another dominating run thru the Lone Star
Conference for the Lady Buffs as they went a perfect 16-0 in league
play to claim their 19th LSC Championship while registering a perfect
league record for the 16th time since the 1986 season. The Lady Buffs
participated in their 10th straight and 25th overall apearance in the NCAA Postseason. Skoch was
named the LSC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and his fourth overall award
since joining the league prior to the 2009 season.
	 2013 saw the Lady Buffs continue their dominance of the Lone Star Conference as the team
went a perfect 16-0 in league play to claim the program’s 18th LSC Title. WT hosted the South
Central Regional Tournament at “The Box” as they claimed the program’s 13th Regional Title, the Lady Buffs advanced to
the National Semifinal match before falling to BYU-Hawaii in a five-set thriller. Skoch was named the American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) South Central Region Coach of the Year as well as the LSC Coach of the Year for his efforts.
The 2012 season saw the Lady Buffs claim the LSC Tournament Title after a thrilling five set win over Angelo State in San
Angelo, Texas followed by WT taking the South Central Regional Championship to make the program’s 12th appearance in
the NCAA Elite Eight held in Pensacola, Florida. WT finished the season with an overall record of 33-5.
In 2011, the Lady Buffs went 34-3 including a 19-1 mark in the LSC for their sixth consecutive and 17th overall LSC
Championship. WT made its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason, Skoch picked up his second consecutive LSC
Coach of the Year honor. The Lady Buffs put their mark in the NCAA Record Books in 2011, recording the longest conference
win streak in Division II history of 87 matches from Sept. 8, 2006 – Sept. 17, 2011.
In 2010, the Lady Buffs finished the season with a 27-9 overall record and a flawless 14-0 mark in the LSC. The team won
its fifth consecutive LSC Championship and 16th overall. WT reached the NCAA Postseason for a sixth consecutive season
before Emporia State in the opening round of the South Central Regional Tournament. Skoch was named the LSC Coach of
the Year.
In his first season with the team in 2009, Skoch (rhymes with ‘coach’) led the ultra-successful Lady Buffs to fourth-
consecutive and 15th all-time Lone Star Conference title, 20th NCAA Regional tournament appearance and 11th NCAA
Regional title, and 11th NCAA Elite Eight appearance. The team experienced their fourth National Championship match
appearance in Lady Buff history and finished second behind three-time national champions, Concordia-St. Paul, finishing the
season with a 39-4 record.
Skoch currently boasts an incredible career win-loss record of 370-81 (.820) in his 12 years as a head coach, including a
234-61 (.793) mark in his eight seasons at the helm of the Lady Buffs. Before coming to Canyon, Skoch served as head coach
at Truman State. While with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association-member, he guided the Bulldogs to four-
consecutive top-10 rankings in the AVCA final poll.
While at Truman State, he compiled a 137-22 record (.861), made five consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament,
developed 11 All-America student-athletes as well as two MIAA Most Valuable Players. The Bulldogs
were MIAA regular-season and tournament champions in both 2006 and 2007, and spent a portion
of the 2005 campaign ranked number-one in the national polls. Additionally, the Bulldogs have
been ranked in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll every week during his tenure as head coach.
While still at Truman, Skoch recruited the 2009 AVCA National Freshman of the Year, Megan
Sharpe.
In 2007, Skoch’s squad set season records in kills, hitting attempts, assists, digs and blocks
en route to a 36-6 overall record, an MIAA tournament title, a No. 1 seed in the South Central
Regional, and a trip to the National Sweet 16. The 36 wins were the second-most in
program history, as the team won the MIAA East division for the second-straight season.
Truman went 13-4 in 2007 against teams ranked in the top-25, including a 6-3 mark against teams in the top-10 at the time of the match. The
Bulldogs went 5-3 in matches that went five-games and were swept just once - at the hands of eventual national champion Concordia-St. Paul in the
first weekend of the season.
Skoch has demonstrated success from the outset of his Truman tenure, as in his first season at the helm, Truman finished second in MIAA play
and won the MIAA postseason tournament. After opening the season ranked second in the preseason national poll, the squad jumped up to No. 1
one week later for the first time in school history. They held the top spot for six weeks in 2005. He capped off his first season at the institution with
a South Central regional title before falling in the Elite Eight against host and national-No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney.
The Bulldogs rolled through the MIAA in 2006, going undefeated and once again capturing the MIAA tournament championship. The season
was culminated with Skoch being named MIAA Coach of the Year. The squad spent five more weeks atop the national poll late in the season, and,
after being recognized as the MIAA Coach of the Year for the first time, Skoch’s squad was again selected to host the South Central Regional.
Skoch came to Truman after spending one season as an assistant coach at Mississippi State University. He was part of a first-year coaching staff
which led Mississippi State to an improvement of 11 wins overall and tied a school record for the most wins in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play.
Skoch also had previous NCAA Division II experience as he was an assistant coach at Central Oklahoma in 2003. Other coaching experience
for Skoch includes spending one season as head coach with the Stillwater Volleyball Club and the Kaeppa Oklahoma Charge Volleyball Club. He
is a former player with club teams at Penn State University, the University of Memphis and Oklahoma State University.
Skoch earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State in 1998, with a major in statistics and a minor in mathematics. He earned a
Master of Science in Statistics from Penn State in 2001.
Skoch and his wife, Karen, reside in Canyon with their children: Jay, Kyle, Kade and Emmie.

WT will take on Missouri-St. Louis, Illinois- Springfield, Missouri Western and Truman State in the nine-team event. - SCOUTING THE FIELD MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS The Tritons are guided by seventh year head coach Ryan Young who has led USML to six-straight GLVC Tournament appearances. USML enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-1 with wins over East Central, Pittsburg State and Emporia State last weekend in Topeka, Kansas. The Tritons are led offensively by Kylie Rudsinski (47 kills) and Alex Minder (40 kills). Madyson Abeyta paces the USML offense with 109 assists while Danielle Waedekin leads the way with 84 digs. ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD The Prairie Stars are guided by third year head coach Trey Salinas who spent three seasons as the top assistant at Belmont Abbey College. UIS enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-0 following wins over Ohio Valley, Concord, Mississippi College and Oakland City last weekend. Illinois-Springfield is led offensively by Alyssa Hasler (40 kills) and Erin Ripple (31 kills) while Lexi Hall has dished out 72 assists so far this season, Ally Vicsik leads the way defensively with 40 digs. MISSOURI WESTERN Missouri Western is led by fifth year head coach Marion Carbin who has led the Griffons to a pair of 20-win seasons. The Griffons enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 following a win over Davenport while falling to #14 Ferris State, Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan last weekend. MWSU is led offensively by Shellby Taylor (35 kills) and Ali Tauchen (34 kills) while Lauren Murphy paces the Griffon offense with 119 assists. Kayla Ruff leads the way defensively with 67 digs. TRUMAN STATE Truman State is led by ninth year head coach Ben Briney who has led the Bulldogs to six NCAA Postseason appearances. The Bulldogs enter the weekend with an overall record of 1-3 following the Quality Inn Ashland Invite last weekend with a win over Urbana while falling to Lake Erie, Ashland and Pitt-Johnstown. Truman State is led offensively by Jasmine Brown (36 kills) and Sam Yancy (33 kills) while Savvy Hughes paces the Bulldog offense with 130 assists. Lauren Wacker leads the way defensively with 62 digs. BRITKARE LADY BUFF CLASSIC RECAP WT started off the 2017 season on a high note as they topped Southwestern Oklahoma State, Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and St. Mary’s during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. WT hit .311 as a team with 174 kills on 412 swings with 46 attack errors to go along with 165 assists, 33 service aces, 174 digs and 36 total blocks.   • 2. 2017 LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL GAME NOTES HOME DOMINANCE West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as “The Box,” is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Champi- onships. The WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box” boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 457-72 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.4%. WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his ninth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carry- ing an overall career record of 374-80 (.823, 12th year) including a 238-61 (.796) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appear- ances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009. LADY BUFF LSC WEEKLY HONORS SETTER OF THE WEEK: Batiste had a breakout weekend during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic as the Portland native was named the MVP of the event, dishing out a tournament-high 150 assists to average 11.54 per set to go along with eight kills, seven service aces and 26 digs. Batiste reg- istered 64 assists on Day 1 in wins over SWOSU and CSUP before a 50 assist performance against Adams State in WT’s only non-sweep victory of the weekend before 36 assists in the tournament finale against St. Mary’s. DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Thomas had a monster weekend for the Lady Buffs as the senior led WT to wins over Southwestern Okla- homa, Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and St. Mary’s during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. The San Antonio native averaged 1.62 blocks per set with 21 total blocks to help hold opponents to a .123 hitting percentage. Thomas posted a dou- ble-double with a league-high 10 blocks against Adams State in a four-set victory to go along with 11 kills while hitting .346. She recorded 26 kills on 58 swings with seven attack errors to hit .328 on the weekend to go along with five service aces and eight digs.   • 4. 2017 LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL GAME NOTES Entering his ninth season at West Texas A&M in 2017, head coach Jason Skoch looks to build upon the great success of his first eight years as the Lady Buffs’ leader. The 2014 campaign was another dominating run thru the Lone Star Conference for the Lady Buffs as they went a perfect 16-0 in league play to claim their 19th LSC Championship while registering a perfect league record for the 16th time since the 1986 season. The Lady Buffs participated in their 10th straight and 25th overall apearance in the NCAA Postseason. Skoch was named the LSC Coach of the Year for the second straight season and his fourth overall award since joining the league prior to the 2009 season. 2013 saw the Lady Buffs continue their dominance of the Lone Star Conference as the team went a perfect 16-0 in league play to claim the program’s 18th LSC Title. WT hosted the South Central Regional Tournament at “The Box” as they claimed the program’s 13th Regional Title, the Lady Buffs advanced to the National Semifinal match before falling to BYU-Hawaii in a five-set thriller. Skoch was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South Central Region Coach of the Year as well as the LSC Coach of the Year for his efforts. The 2012 season saw the Lady Buffs claim the LSC Tournament Title after a thrilling five set win over Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas followed by WT taking the South Central Regional Championship to make the program’s 12th appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight held in Pensacola, Florida. WT finished the season with an overall record of 33-5. In 2011, the Lady Buffs went 34-3 including a 19-1 mark in the LSC for their sixth consecutive and 17th overall LSC Championship. WT made its seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason, Skoch picked up his second consecutive LSC Coach of the Year honor. The Lady Buffs put their mark in the NCAA Record Books in 2011, recording the longest conference win streak in Division II history of 87 matches from Sept. 8, 2006 – Sept. 17, 2011. In 2010, the Lady Buffs finished the season with a 27-9 overall record and a flawless 14-0 mark in the LSC. The team won its fifth consecutive LSC Championship and 16th overall. WT reached the NCAA Postseason for a sixth consecutive season before Emporia State in the opening round of the South Central Regional Tournament. Skoch was named the LSC Coach of the Year. In his first season with the team in 2009, Skoch (rhymes with ‘coach’) led the ultra-successful Lady Buffs to fourth- consecutive and 15th all-time Lone Star Conference title, 20th NCAA Regional tournament appearance and 11th NCAA Regional title, and 11th NCAA Elite Eight appearance. The team experienced their fourth National Championship match appearance in Lady Buff history and finished second behind three-time national champions, Concordia-St. Paul, finishing the season with a 39-4 record. Skoch currently boasts an incredible career win-loss record of 370-81 (.820) in his 12 years as a head coach, including a 234-61 (.793) mark in his eight seasons at the helm of the Lady Buffs. Before coming to Canyon, Skoch served as head coach at Truman State. While with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association-member, he guided the Bulldogs to four- consecutive top-10 rankings in the AVCA final poll. While at Truman State, he compiled a 137-22 record (.861), made five consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, developed 11 All-America student-athletes as well as two MIAA Most Valuable Players. The Bulldogs were MIAA regular-season and tournament champions in both 2006 and 2007, and spent a portion of the 2005 campaign ranked number-one in the national polls. Additionally, the Bulldogs have been ranked in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll every week during his tenure as head coach. While still at Truman, Skoch recruited the 2009 AVCA National Freshman of the Year, Megan Sharpe. In 2007, Skoch’s squad set season records in kills, hitting attempts, assists, digs and blocks en route to a 36-6 overall record, an MIAA tournament title, a No. 1 seed in the South Central Regional, and a trip to the National Sweet 16. The 36 wins were the second-most in program history, as the team won the MIAA East division for the second-straight season. Truman went 13-4 in 2007 against teams ranked in the top-25, including a 6-3 mark against teams in the top-10 at the time of the match. The Bulldogs went 5-3 in matches that went five-games and were swept just once - at the hands of eventual national champion Concordia-St. Paul in the first weekend of the season. Skoch has demonstrated success from the outset of his Truman tenure, as in his first season at the helm, Truman finished second in MIAA play and won the MIAA postseason tournament. After opening the season ranked second in the preseason national poll, the squad jumped up to No. 1 one week later for the first time in school history. They held the top spot for six weeks in 2005. He capped off his first season at the institution with a South Central regional title before falling in the Elite Eight against host and national-No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney. The Bulldogs rolled through the MIAA in 2006, going undefeated and once again capturing the MIAA tournament championship. The season was culminated with Skoch being named MIAA Coach of the Year. The squad spent five more weeks atop the national poll late in the season, and, after being recognized as the MIAA Coach of the Year for the first time, Skoch’s squad was again selected to host the South Central Regional. Skoch came to Truman after spending one season as an assistant coach at Mississippi State University. He was part of a first-year coaching staff which led Mississippi State to an improvement of 11 wins overall and tied a school record for the most wins in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. Skoch also had previous NCAA Division II experience as he was an assistant coach at Central Oklahoma in 2003. Other coaching experience for Skoch includes spending one season as head coach with the Stillwater Volleyball Club and the Kaeppa Oklahoma Charge Volleyball Club. He is a former player with club teams at Penn State University, the University of Memphis and Oklahoma State University. Skoch earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State in 1998, with a major in statistics and a minor in mathematics. He earned a Master of Science in Statistics from Penn State in 2001. Skoch and his wife, Karen, reside in Canyon with their children: Jay, Kyle, Kade and Emmie.
