Never in the first interview. Say you wish to discuss this later and are more focused now on the task you are going to do. Make them want you first and than start talking about it.
Check salariswijzer.nl, Glassdoor, other job vacancy’s and ask around. This gives you a top and bottom. Don’t mention your current salary, because the offer will be close to it. It doesn’t matter what you are making now, it’s about how much you are worth.
Prefer to negotiate with a manager than HR. A manager is more likely to pay you more when he/she want's you for his/her team.
Relax… Practise!
Name a openings salary between 2 amounts. By naming 2 amounts you suggest to know how much you are worth and it’s less likely the will be made a offer below it. Use detailed amounts like between 2456 and 3144 euro. You do need to be able to found these claims/justified these claims.
Don’t focus on your need and greed rather than on value like I need to buy a house etc. but use fact’s like I have achieved ….. Or I have knowledge of…..
.
Don't ask for an immediate answer. The boss is mostly likely going to have to discuss the salary with Human Resources and/or other company managers. Don’t take the first offer or agree at the interview. Think about it and let your answer know later. I will use the cat example of Rich dad poor dad.
Play around with salary, holiday’s, a car, laptop, gym, telephone, pension, health insurance, working from home, budget to study etc.
Be aware of company policy regarding compensation. Some employers are limited by budget constraints and can only give raises at certain times of the year, regardless of the circumstances. A plus because there will not be much difference in employees, a downer because you maybe not getting what you are worth.
You need to work with the manager afterwards so both party’s must have the feeling that the won something to be able to start a healthy working relationship.
