4. INTRODUCTION
In Bangladesh, the Green Banking concept has entered the public domain
through the circulation of policy guidelines by the Bangladesh Bank (BB).
'Green Banking Policy' (Green Banking Csrd Circular No. 04 dated August
11, 2013) calls for protecting the earth from possible ecological catastrophes
prompted by endless global warming with the rising tendency of carbon
emission and further ecological pollutions, in order to ensure the stakeholders
move towards Green Banking.
6. GREEN BANKING
Green Banking is like a normal bank, which considers the entire social and
environmental factors; it is also called as an ethical bank' Ethical banks
have started with the aim of protecting the environment.
Green banking refers to the efforts of the Banking sector to keep the
environment green and to minimize greenhouse effects through
rationalizing their strategies, policy, decisions and activities pertaining to
banking service, business and in-house operational activities.

in Bangladesh
Response of business
In Bangladesh there are different business organization as well as financial
institute are not response to the very innovative service like green banking. Their
(business organization) response to this green banking service is too poor. This
types of barrier which harms to develop green banking service in Bangladesh.

Unawareness of customer
Giving less priority to green banking by the business organization as well as the
financial institution is the reasons of unawareness of customer to green banking
service. Customer can get different types of advantages through green banking.
But lack of awareness of green banking service the growth is day by day fall.

Most of the organizations like financial institutions are not properly promotes
the advantages who are already use this great service. So that’s why other
organization who have no idea about green banking service, they give less
priority.

Financial barriers
Lacking of awareness of business organizations the financial investment for this
great service is getting hampered. Some financial organizations day by day
increase the investment to service, but still now the growth is too slow.

Technical barriers
In green banking service (online banking, sms & mobile banking, internet
banking) these types of technical problems are the major barriers to develop
the service. Customers who like to operate his/her bank account through
internet are getting disturbed because of this technical issue. They can’t get the
account balance notification, can’t access the account through online banking
etc.

Customer support
Lack of Green Banking specialist, now a day’s customers cant get the proper
support from the service provider. Most of the bank customers are used to the
internet service that’s why they like to operate their account through online, but
customer support facilities of this service is too poor. Customer also avoids
these types service because of fraud activities.

19. SOME OTHER PROBLEMS
Most of the bank have very low performance in ATM service, online
service, and internet services. Though the location of the branch is covered
with uneducated people and client are not habituated with these service, but
bank can motivated business people to habituate with these services.
Lac of available advertisement regarding green banking policy. People still
don’t know about the practices of green banking.
Information regarding green banking polices are not available in
organization as well as financial institution.

Some organizations do not have green banking specialist. As a result green
banking practices are not done properly.
Before investing in any project they only consider on the certificate
provided by “Department of Environment of Bangladesh” and does the
applicant have adequate mortgage property or not.
Maximum numbers of Employees of organizations are not aware about
Green Banking.
Lack of awareness also creates barriers to develop green banking in
Bangladesh.
21. SOLUTIONS
Need to apply Green Banking and use ERM (Enterprise Risk Management)
guideline in an efficient manner.
Bank should increase ATM service, Online service and internet services.
Apply quantitative approach for Environmental Risk Rating.
Bank should provide available advertising and arrange more seminar about
green banking.
Motivate clients by different way to follow the policy.
Bank should recruit green banking specialist, who give available information
about green banking to clients.
22. CONCLUSION
Development in environmentally responsible practices by banks or Green
Banking is the result of a collective effort of all the stakeholders. Although there
are lots of barriers for the implementation of Green Banking Policy in our
country, those barriers are not ever lasting and can be overcome by the
appropriate strategic initiatives of banks and the government. If we can identify
the factor under which the variables fall, we will be able to predict the response
of the variables, we can easily identify – which variables would respond how
and the strategy necessary to investigate for implementing the Green Banking
activities of the bank.
