This document discusses research into improving algorithms for localizing and decoding barcodes from camera phone images. It summarizes a method where the image is processed to identify regions with high horizontal gradients, indicating the presence of a barcode. Once localized, the barcode is decoded by analyzing the peaks in the smoothed derivative of a scan line across the barcode. Applying these localization and decoding methods can interpret blurry or unclear barcodes captured in images. Future work involves developing additional methods and improving existing approaches.
