Bantayan Island is a tropical hot spot off the coast of Cebu known for its beaches, festivals, and history. The island takes its name from the Cebuano term "Bantayan sa Hari," meaning "a place to watch for the king." It is home to a 500+ year old church and celebrates two annual festivals, the Palawod Festival in June and Holy Week either in March or April, which draws many visitors. Bantayan Island also draws tourists to its white sand beaches and is known for its local cuisine.
