2. Overview
 Located in the IT capital of India, Bangalore University (BU) was established in 1964 as an offshoot of the University of
Mysore.
 BU is formed by the city’s 2 premier institutions, Central College (CC) and University of Visvesvaraya College of
Engineering (UVCE). Bangalore University offers multiple Undergraduate, Integrated, Postgraduate, Diploma, PG
Diploma, Certificate, and Doctorate courses for eligible candidates.
 The Law College was established in 1948 and the College of Physical Education in 1959.
 In 1973, Bangalore University moved into a new campus named Jnana Bharathi (JB), which is located on a sprawling
1100 acres of land.
 Currently, the JB Campus houses several offices, PG departments, centres of higher learning, NSS Bhavan, outdoor
stadium, and other support services.
 Bangalore University has completed 57 years of its existence and is regarded as one of the largest universities in Asia.
 Though BU was intended to be a federal university, it has currently emerged as an affiliating university, with over 298
colleges affiliated to it.
