6. Blind Guess ā the last resort
During the exam, even if you do not know the right answer, it is still not
recommended that you leave the answer blank. You should try to provide an
answer regardless of your certainty of its correctness.
Specifically in the Listening section, taking a āblind guessā when you cannot be
certain about the right answer shall allow you to move on and focus on the next
listening segment. It is not worth it to dwell on a single question and miss many
questions (potentially easier) that follow it.

7. Be mindful of the time
When you are studying for the TOEIC exam, be mindful on how you are spending
your time. You should never allow yourselves to exceed the allotted exam time.
Train yourselves to complete the practice test with at least 5-10 minutes to spare.
When taking the exam, you should pay special attention to the Reading section.
You are allowed 75 minutes to finish part V, VI, VII of the exam. Many examinees
elected to spend the majority of their allotted time on part V and VI since they
think those parts are the most difficult. In reality, you should not spend more than
30 minutes for those parts and spend at least 40 minutes for the last part (part VII)
as they count the most toward your final score.

Lagi trip
When summer comes, images of long days on the beach and
adventures in the mountain come to mind. With those images in
mind, PVE English club has decided to pursue our visions and experience
together those sunny days on the beach. With our belief: āit is the journey
that matters, not the destinationā we have embarked yet again on another
trip, this time to discover the golden sand and blue waves of the beaches
at Lagi town.

1. It was 4 Am in the morning. The sky was
still dark and the streets were empty, but
not at PV GAS tower. Although most of us
would much prefer to sleep at this time,
we all made it to the gathering point, our
ever-familiar home-away-from-home at
673 Nguyen Huu Tho. The early hours did
not affect the high spirit of us āPVE-erā as
evident in this picture.
2. 2 hours later, we stopped at LĆŖ
HoĆ ng restaurant for breakfast.
Everybody enjoyed a nice breakfast
with Vietnamese Phį», Hu Tiu
Noodle soup, sunny side up, all
served with a healthy side-order of
laughter.
3. It takes approximately 3 hours and a half to travel
from Ho Chi Minh city to Lagi town. But we were taking
a detour to TĆ CĆŗ mountain which added another hour
to our trip. Not to let the time passed by idly, we kept
ourselves active and energetic by playing a variety of
games. Here you can see the 2 recently-appointed team
leaders receiving their āchallengeā for the trip
4. Arriving at TĆ CĆŗ Mountain and it was almost high
noon. We decided to take the lift up to the temple at the
top of the mountain as it would take 2 hours to make the
trek up to the temple. Fun fact: one out of these 3 are
trying really hard to smile, guess which one is that?
5. Once the ride on the cable car is over,
we still need to climb quite a bit of stairs
in order to reach the top of the mountain
where the largest statue of āSleeping
Buddhaā is. Under the scorching heat
of a hot Saturday, it was the smiles of
each other that encouraged us to move
forward. 6. This is the view close to the top
of the mountain. There are 2 main
temples on TĆ CĆŗ mountain. The
lower Temple is called chĆ¹a DĘ°į»i
(or chĆ¹a Long ÄoĆ n), the higher
temple is called chĆ¹a TrĆŖn (or Long
SĘ”n TrĘ°į»ng Thį»). The higher
temple is going through some major
renovation. On a clear day like
this, you can see all the way to the
ocean from here.

7. Finally reaching the top of the mountain,
the statue of Sleeping Buddha that you
see here is the longest in South East Asia,
measured at 49 meters in length, which
is longer than a similar one in Thailand by
3 meters. The official name of the Statue
is āThe Reclining Buddhaā which shows
Buddha entering Nirvana.
8. After lunch at TĆ CĆŗ Mountain, we moved on to our next
destination, KĆŖ GĆ Lighthouse. The lighthouse is on a small
isle about 500 meters from shore. During low tides, it is actually
possible to walk to the light house. However, when the tide is
high, we must use basket boats such as these to travel to the
Lighthouse.
9. Thereās some more climbing
before we reach the lighthouse.
Luckily the steps are being shaded
by rows of plumeria. These trees
have been here since the French
first built the Lighthouse a hundred
years ago.
10. Leaving the lighthouse, we checked-in to Ba Thįŗt resort.
The resort has its own private beach which is ideal for
many group activities that we planned. Here you can see us
āstretchingā after a long day sitting on the bus.
11. The next activity is Tug-of-War where our two
teams must compete against each other. The
determination is evident on our member faces
(especially Mr. KiĆŖn who seems to be putting
everything he has into the rope).
The next game is Sack race. It is a game that put
our membersā weights and finesses to the test. For
this game, I donāt think how fast you arrive at the
destination matters; rather it is how you arrive at the
destination.
12 Our next activity is the ārace of
caterpillarsā. Team work is essential in
this game as everybody needs to move
together to arrive at the destination.
13. When the night falls, it is time for treasure hunting.
Follow the clues that was handed out during the days,
our teams went forth on a quest throughout the resort to
find the lost treasure of the island. The treasure may not
contain any gold or jewelry, but it did hold many memories
that are more precious than any gem in the world.
14. In the next morning, our members were free to enjoy the
beach and the warm sunshine. Many of us decided to take this
opportunity to take wonderful pictures of the trip in styles which
were suggested by the organizers of the trip (i.e. us ļ). Many of
the picture required out-of-the-box thinking as you can see here.

Such was how our adventure to Lagi were concluded. Such was how we made a lot of
new memories with our members, old and new, from many different departments in PVE.
Although each of us was truly unique, we had a good time learning more about each other
and stoked the passionate flame within our hearts, the flame of youth, the flame of PVE.
May we see each other again in our future trips, or if you canāt wait, come to Diamond
room on Wednesday at 5:10 Pm, weāll be there.
