I have a goal for each student in our class to recognize
the importance of self-control and responsible behavior.
These character traits are important skills to succeed in
life. Throughout the first couple weeks of school we will
focus on the importance of following the rules and
treating others with respect.
1. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
 2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
 3. Listen and follow directions.

Consequences: Rewards:
•Verbal warnings •Knowledge
•5 minutes time out •Fabulous Friday
•Think Time •Swap Meet
Language Arts: I use Reader’s Workshop and Writer’s
Workshop to teach our District’s new literacy program
“Treasures.”

Math: We use Growing With Math. I will be using a
workshop approach to teach Math that will include whole
group, small group and individual practice. If
your child needs to be challenged or requires
additional help, this type of instruction
will work for them.

Homework packets are sent home each Monday with just a few pages to
complete. Packets are due on Friday morning. (Some concepts are taught
during the week – if your student doesn’t know what to do, wait a day or 2 and
go back to that page later). If packets are completed and turned in, your
student will attend Fabulous Friday in the afternoon. If packets are
incomplete or missing, your student will attend Study Hall in the afternoon
where they will work on math and grammar sheets.
NOTE* Homework packets are for review AS WELL AS learning
accountability. Please let your student learn this! If they must attend Study
Hall – it is only 30 minutes on Friday – let them learn the consequences of
their own actions. Please do not take this valuable learning experience away
from them!
A Home Reading Calendar will be sent home at the
first of each month to help keep track of the minutes
your student reads. I require students in my class to
read at home for 30 minutes each school night. If this
is achieved, students will earn tickets for
swap meets.
Our classroom will have a blog where you and your child will
be able to find information about what we are learning in
school as well as links to learning sites on the internet. The
address is:

Thank you for attending Back to School Night
and sharing in your child’s excitement for
Fourth Grade!
