“The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but
rather leads you to the threshold of your mind”
-Khalil Gibran-
Artifact 1
This was used when the students were learning about
plants and what they needed. Mrs. Novo drew this
picture out to show students a visual example.
Artifact 2
This shows the students placing a story that was read in
first, second, and third order. The paper on the board was
used in explaining to the children to illustrate the story.
Artifact 3
This was drawn by Mrs. Novo when she was going over speech. The
students were called and she walked them through on how to use them in a
sentence. They were then told to say a sentence of their own.
Lesson Plans For Day 1 and Day 2

with the teacher, do an activity in the workbook, as well
as take home two problems each night to work on at
home
Classroom setting
artifact 1
This area of the classroom is where all the students sit during class hours. Behind the chairs shows the student notebooks
and where the assignments are kept for each day. In the middle lies the supplies needed for each lesson. Also, there are
charts on the board beside that list the calendar day, how to count in order, and the words that are being taught.
Classroom setting
artifact 2
This area is used by the teacher when students need to take
an assessment or for one on one time with the teacher. It is
also used when groups are formed based on learning level.
Classroom setting
artifact 3
The teacher places the months on the board to go over weekly. In the lower right hand corner there is a
radio in which the teacher turns on when she gives the students a creative assignment to do. She also has
pretend money on the board so students can use as reference when counting.
Exceptional Education Field Observation
Teacher Interview
Name of Teacher: Cristina M. Novo School: Tampa Bay Blvd Elementary Grade: K-2
Purpose: To assist future teachers with gaining greater understanding and insight into the
expectations and responsibilities toward children with Special needs.
1. What exceptionality do the students have? What grade level and what age are they?
The students are (EMH) educable mentally handicapped, grade k-2 and 5-9 years old
2. What needs do the children seem to have that are unique to this group? Common to other children? What
modifications in instructional approach are made?
Students are significantly below grade level and Cognitively below. They need constant supervision, and assistance to complete
assignments and tasks. Students use modified curriculum that is at their ability level. Lessons are differentiated for them
3. What recommendations does the parent have for you, regarding what you might provide for children who have
special needs?
I don't have much patent involvement, it's the other way around. We recommend things to the parents for them to do and work on,
strategies for them to work on with their special needs child.
4. How have you been affected by the education policy directed at children with special needs. What modifications ahs
the teacher made in teaching? What do you as a teacher still feel is needed?
Not sure what this is exactly asking. But I have a lot of paperwork and IEP meetings that I have to hold each year. I have a lot of
data and documentation that i have to do and gather to make sure each child is meeting their IEP goals. Each student has
different goals so it take a lot of time taking data on the students. Lessons are modified to meet their needs and accommodations
are made so that the students successfully make gains and meet their individual goals
5. What type of assistive technology do you use to accommodate the special needs of your student
My students don't really need any assisting tech. They don't use anything specific. I use the Elmo and mimeo so that they can see
me model how to do the work. But that's pretty much it other than computers.
