It's Just Like Defecating  You don't want to discuss it...
It's Just Like Defecating   • I know it's gross!  But it is reality.  • It's like taking the biggest dump of your life.  •   • Muscles are stronger with your uterus working too.  • Your nurses and doctor see it everyday and ignore it.  • By the end of your labor, you won't care anymore.
But How Do I Push, Really?  It may not come naturally as expected...
But How Do I Push, Really?   • When you're cervix is open, you'll feel the urge.  • Use ONLY the muscles designed for baring down.  • Relax all unnecessary muscles: arms, legs, head.  • Try to pee while you're pushing.  • Don't worry about getting it right the first time.
How Do I Breathe With Pushing?  Be sure to keep oxygen flowing to that baby...
How Do I Breathe With Pushing?   • When the contraction is rising, lean back...  • Inhale deeply...then hold your breath  • Lean forward and push w/o exhaling.  • Try to hold your breathe for 10 seconds.  • Exhale, lean back QUICKLY, and repeat.
I Still Need a Little Help  It's hard to get immediately...
I Still Need a Little Help   • Squatting: lean on your husband and nurse.  • Sitting up: have husband and nurse hold back your legs.  • DON'T lay down!  • If making noise helps...by all means, do it.  • Practice beforehand at home WITHOUT the actual pushing.
The Steps to Remember  You don't want to be there and forget....
The Steps to Remember   • Lean back, take a DEEP breath  • Lean forward and push while trying to pee  • Relax your arms, legs, head and neck  • Hold your breath for about 10 seconds  • Exhale, lean back QUICKLY and repeat.
Don't forget to PRACTICE Do it daily without pushing
