The importance of regular sleeping hours on student’s performance

 The introduction:
In order for a person to perform well and be more productive, the person will require being in
good conditions. As known, the person’s body needs to be in perfect physical state and
pressure free. Thus, a person’s body requires some rest in order to be productive as well as
for the mind to be creative. The only way of resting is to have a good amount of sleep.
Lacking sleep causes stress, fatigue, and non-productiveness. In such cases, students are on
top of those who need to be in good conditions.. Sleeping hours highly affect the students’
wellbeing. As a result, the performance will change depending on the sleeping hours a
student gets. We will conduct a study on how many students are getting a good amount of
sleep and (its effect on) their productivity.
 The purpose of study:
We need to study the difference in the number of sleeping hours per day between the
sophomore student who are studying Banking and Finance and Management information
system in Dar Al-Hekma School of Business. Since, good sleeping hours can have great
benefit especially student as they need to be active to perform well in their studying and
achieve high scores. Therefore, we conducted this project to know how many hours college
students are sleeping to maintain wellness.
 The variable under the study:
The variables are quantitative distinct variables that are countable data, which is (the number
of hours each student sleep per day).

 The population under the study:
The populations under the study are two independent populations, which are the sophomore
BNFN students (32 students) and sophomore MIS students (22 students) of the Hekma
School of Business in December 2013.
 The sample under the study:
We conduct a random sample, which is a sampling procedure that assures that each element
in the population has an equal chance of being selected. Therefore, 10 members of each
population were selected. The sample members were interviewed and asked though out all
college days hours, and also emails were sent to reach all target sample members.
 The raw data:
Sophomore BNFN sample

 Value of α:
Alpha is assumed to be α = 0.05

 5 step analysis of hypothesis testing:
 F test:
1) Hypotheses:
H0: σ2

2 (two-tailed test)
2) Critical value:
d.f of numerator is 9 and d.f of detonator is 9
α = 0.05, since it is two tail test α/2= 0.025
C.V = 4.03

F = s²₁/s²₂ = (1.66)²/(2.00)²= 0.69
4) Accept H0  Reject H1
5) Since the null hypothesis is accepted, the variances are equal.

 Testing the mean (T test):
1) H0: µ1 = µ2
H1: µ1 ≠ µ2 (claim) two tailed test.
2) d.f = n + n -2 = 10 + 10 – 2 = 18
α = 0.05

5) At α = 0.05, there is no enough evidence to support the claim that means there is no
difference in the average time of sleeping hours per day between BNFN and MIS
students in Dar Al-Hekma College.

 The conclusion:
Based on the study, we can finally conclude that business students at Dar Al-Hekma
College (BNFN and MIS) have the same sleeping hours, although the students are from
different major and taking different courses that have different requirements. This means
that the physical effort exerted and pressure would almost be the same among the
students. Bearing in mind that there were limitations in the study such as time scale,
sampling error, sample size, and accuracy of collected data.
