9. HVOR KOMMER NYHETENE FRA? Hver morgen samles redaksjonen i en avis til morgenmøte. Her diskuterer de nyhetssituasjonen og prioriterer aktuelle saker. De tar utgangspunkt i TV og radionyheter, andre avisers nyheter, pressemeldinger, Stortingets agenda, NTB og internett. Avisas journalister og fotografer sendes ut på oppdrag. Enkeltpersoner oppsøker avisa med nyheter og tips.

11. OPPSØKENDE JOURNALISTIKK I enkelte aviser graver journalister fram opplysninger som ennå ikke er kjent. Dette kalles oppsøkende journalistikk. I 1974 måtte Richard Nixon gå av som president etter at to journalister hadde funnet kommpromiterende opplysninger om han

13. NYHETSBYRÅER Nyheter fra utlandet kommer vanligvis fra nyhetsbyråer. Associated Press – USA United Press International – USA Reuter – Storbritannia Itar – Tass – Russland Agence France Presse – Frankrike Norsk Telegrambyrå – Norge

15. HVORDAN VELGER REDAKSJONEN UT STOFFET? Redaksjonen prioriterer stoffet som strømmer inn i redaksjonen. De velger ut noen saker. Da tenker de på: Saker bør ha stor samfunnsmessig betydning. Saken bør angå og interessere leserne. Saken bør inneholde en konflikt. Saken bør ha preg av en sensasjon.

17. PRESENTASJON Vaktsjefen har ansvaret for å prioritere nyhetsstoffets plassering på sidene. Redigererne tegner ut sidene. Det kalles for layout. Layouten er viktig for at avisen skal selge godt
24. MELLOMTITLER For at teksten skal bli lettere å lese, så blir teksten brutt opp med mellomtitler. Små overskrifter forteller om innholdet som skal komme.
25. VINKLING Sak og fakta Personvinkling Årsaksvinkling. Sammenheng. Konsekvenser. Sensasjonsvinkling.
27. LEDERARTIKKEL Alle aviser har en lederartikkel der redaksjonen gir uttrykk for sitt syn på en aktuell sak. Lederen har en fast plass i avisa.
28. NYHETSARTIKKEL Nyhetsartikkelen er den mest brukte sjangeren i avisene. Den kan inneholde politiske nyheter, ulykker, mord, kjendiser og sport. Nyhetsartikkelen illustreres ofte med bilder.
29. REPORTASJE En reportasje er en utdypende nyhetsartikkel. Den brukes i saker som er spesielt interessante og aktuelle. Den går i bredden og dybden.
30. KRONIKK En kronikk er en større avisartikkel av opplysende eller resonnerende art. Den er som oftest skrevet av en person som ikke arbeider i avisa. Kronikken har sin faste plass i avisen.
31. KOMMENTAR En kommentar tar for seg aktuelle saker. Den blir skrevet av en redaktør eller en journalist. Skribenten må selv stå inne for innholdet i artikkelen.
33. PETIT En petit er en kort og morsom tekst i kåserende stil. Den har en personlig og muntlig språktone. Ofte har den et fast innslag i avisa.
34. INTERVJU Vi har saks og portrettintervju. I saksintervjuet spør man en person om å opplysninger i en bestemt sak. I personintervjuet prøver man å portrettere en person og skriver om personens tanker, livsstil osv.
35. ANMELDELSE De fleste aviser anmelder bøker, filmer, konserter, CD,er, radio og fjernsynsprogrammer.
