This presentation discusses the characteristics of an autonomous learner, including taking responsibility for one's own learning, showing initiative, monitoring progress, being reflective, and being intrinsically motivated to learn lifelong. Autonomous learning is important for situations where learners study entirely on their own, for skills that can be self-directedly learned and applied, for developing an inborn capacity that institutions may suppress, for exercising responsibility over one's learning, and for determining the direction of one's learning. The presenter acknowledges applying these characteristics will be challenging but needs to improve organization, self-evaluation, and discipline.
