Microservices have become the new kid of the buzzword block in our ever colorful industry. In this session we will explore what microservices really mean within the relatively well established context of distributed computing/SOA, when they make sense and how to develop them using the lightweight, simple, productive Java EE programming model.
We'll explore microservices using a simple but representative example using Java EE. You'll see how the Java EE programming model and APIs like JAX-RS, WebSocket, JSON-P, JSON-B, Bean Validation, CDI, JPA, EJB 3, JMS 2 and JTA aligns with the concept of microservices.
It may or may not surprise you to learn in the end that you already know more about microservices than you realize and that it is an architectural style that does not really require you to learn an entirely new tool set beyond the ones you already have. You might even see that Java EE is a particularly powerful and elegant tool set for developing microservices.

Vertical thinking for a simple architecture!
Micro Services are a new way of architectural thinking in web platforms. The key idea is strongly aligned on the unix philosophy: Create small services which are only responsible for one thing and make them work together. With this in mind, you get simple applications, which can be developed, deployed and scaled independent from each other.
The key challenge in using micro services is to decompose applications vertically, by their functional domains. Only with this, you are able to reduce dependencies and create simple applications.
On a technical side, micro services are backed by a wide support in different programming languages and open source frameworks. Especially the state of the art deployment mechanisms make this approach possible at all.
SCIM in the Real World: Adoption is Growing
The SCIM (System for Cross-Domain Identity Management) specification is beginning to gain real-world traction for both cloud and on-premises applications. In this workshop you will learn about SCIM, how it is being used in the real world, and why many consider SCIM to be a foundational piece of any identity architecture. We will also discuss how participants can help SCIM’s adoption with their organization and across the industry.

The microservice architecture is becoming increasingly popular. However, frequent references to using “a microservice to solve a problem” suggest that the concept is not universally well understood. In this talk, I define the microservice architecture as an architectural style and explain what that actually means. I also describe how the primary goal of the microservice architecture is to enable continuous delivery and deployment, and how it achieves that. You will learn why the architecture that you pick for your application matters. And you will learn how to solve key challenges with decomposing an application into microservices. This talk explains why there is no such thing as a microservice!
ACM BPM and elasticsearch AMIS25
Elasticsearch is recommended to create an archive to search ACM/BPM case and process data that is up to 7 years old. Elasticsearch allows storing and searching large volumes of data quickly and in near real-time. It was tested by uploading over 40,000 documents from a use case involving tweets. This allowed full-text search of case data and searching within office documents. While Elasticsearch is schema-less and easy to evolve with Oracle releases, its limitations regarding transactions and an overview of case history would need to be considered.
