Analyze and interpret the following quotation: “The confrontation of Western civilization with other peoples whose values were often dramatically opposed to the West’s…suggests that by the dawn of the twentieth century, the tradition and sense of centeredness that had defined indigenous cultures for hundreds, even thousands, of years was either threatened or in the process of being destroyed. Worldwide, non-Western cultures suddenly found that they were defined as outposts of new colonial empires developed by Europeans, resulting in the weakening of traditional cultural practices, political leadership, and social systems that had been in place for centuries.” (Sayre, 2013, pp. 410-411). In the later nineteenth and early twentieth century, what would this “loss of centeredness” of culture have meant for a given cultural group? Select from among the non-Western cultural groups noted in the text (Native American, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, or African) and research the impact of Western or European cultures on that group. What was the selected non-Western culture like prior to the late nineteenth century? How did it change as a result of European expansion? How is this change representative of what Sayre calls a “loss of centeredness?” Be sure to use specific examples and details. Submit your findings in a 4-page essay in APA format. .

Analyze and prepare a critique of the following situation: Mary has worked for Bob for two years. About 6 months ago, Bob asked Mary out to dinner. They had a good time together and agreed that they had some real interests in common outside of work. The pair dated for two months. Mary initially liked Bob, but he was beginning to get annoying. He called her all the time, was very pushy about her seeing him, and wanted to control all aspects of her life; both at work and at home. Mary decided to call it off. When she told Bob that she did not want to see him personally anymore, he went crazy on her. He told her she would be sorry and that he would see to it that she regretted it. Bob began to make life miserable for Mary at work. She suddenly started to get poor performance evaluations after two years of exemplary reviews. Even the managers above Bob were beginning to make comments about her poor attitude. Mary decided it was time to act. She was worried she would be fired, all because Bob wanted her to continue to date him. She loved her job and knew she did quality work. She made an appointment with the HR manager. Using the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991, discuss the type of sexual harassment Mary thinks she is experiencing. What are the obligations of the HR manager once Mary reports this? Discuss the likelihood that Bob would be found guilty of sexually harassing Mary. If the HR manager investigates and finds Mary is telling the truth, what should s/he do to handle the situation so that the company is not found complicit by the EEOC if further complaint is made? If found in Mary's favor, what options does the HR manager have to remedy the situation? .

Analyze the anthropological film Jero: A Balinese Trance Seance made by Linda Connor, Patsy Asch and Timothy Asch. Choose two or three significant concepts covered in our readings and lectures to analyze the film (cultural relativism, visual imperialism). You will need to explore these concepts in a thorough manner, select your anthropological concepts to best serve your thesis statement and interest in the film. Think about the approach to the subject matter. How do the filmmakers construct the culture they present? What is the significance of this film? Who is Jero and why is she featured in this film? What did you learn? What questions are raised by this film? What is left unanswered? Do the filmmakers privilege their own culture or do they employ cultural relativism? Can you see how the shift in anthropology, from studying the "native" may have impacted the filmmakers approach Could they have been more effective in their approach? Describe how? What worked well and why? What are some ethical implications that you see raised in this film? These questions serve as guideline for you but you should choose specific concepts that you find interesting to explore how ethnicity and culture are presented in this film. Hi, can you please make use of the terms "cultural baggage" and "politics of representation" in the essay .

Analyze financial statements using financial ratios. • Analyze and evaluate cash flows over time. • Use technology and information resources to research issues in financial management. • Write clearly and concisely about financial management using proper writing mechanics. This project requires that you conduct a financial analysis of two, comparable organizations. You may select any organizations that produce publicly available financial statements employing IFRS or U.S. GAAP (both companies must follow the same GAAP). Let your professor know which two companies you plan to study before the end of Week 2, as your selection must be approved. The professor reserves the right to limit the number of students comparing the same two organizations. Assignment: 1. Carefully review the annual reports for both organizations. Comment on what approach each company has taken in reporting to its shareholders. (This requirement is purposely broad to give you the freedom to talk about anything that comes under the broad title of “reporting to shareholders”). 2. Prepare a ratio analysis for both companies including a trend analysis for three years. Comment on the significance of the ratios for each company (do they indicate that things are all right, do they suggest that problems exist, or is it likely that problems will occur in the future?). Comment specifically on the similarities and differences among the ratios calculated for both companies and comparison to any benchmark. 3. Prepare an analysis of the cash flow statements for both companies. 4. List and discuss the importance of the two most significant accounting policies adopted by the two organizations (you should select the same two policies for both organizations). Explain the options selected by both companies and comment on any differences that you see. Explain what other policies the organizations could have selected and state why you think they selected one policy over another. 5. Provide the URL’s for each company’s Annual Report. Your assignment should adhere to these guidelines: • Write in a logical, well-organized conventional business style. Use Times New Roman font size 12 or similar, double space, and leave ample white space per page. • All references must follow JWMI style guide and works must be cited appropriately. Check with your professor for any additional instructions on citations. • On the first page or in a header, include the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. Reference pages are not included in the assignment page length. • Faculty members have discretion to penalize for assignments that do not follow these guidelines. Check with your individual professor if you feel the assignment r much longer or shorter treatment than recommended. The two companies are: Walm.

an article summary on this article A Walk in Space Astronauts investigate a leak at the International Space Station May 13, 2013 By Cameron Keady with AP reporting NASA Chris Cassidy inspects the International Space Station on May 11. There was some trouble in space over the weekend. On Thursday, May 9, flakes of frozen ammonia were seen drifting from the International Space Station (ISS). The team onboard immediately prepared for a spacewalk to look into the issue. Two days later, on Saturday, two astronauts stepped outside the ISS to investigate the leak. The chief suspect was an old ammonia pump. Thomas Marshburn and Christopher Cassidy conducted the search, but did not discover any visible damage. "All the pipes look shiny clean, no crud," Cassidy reported as he used a mirror to peer into tight, deep openings. Even so, the astronauts removed the old pump and replaced it with a new one. NASA astronauts Tom Marshburn and Chris Cassidy completed the May 11 spacewalk in 5 hours and 30 minutes. NASA NASA astronauts Tom Marshburn and Chris Cassidy completed the May 11 spacewalk in 5 hours and 30 minutes. Keeping It Cool Ammonia is used on the ISS to cool the spacecraft’s electronic equipment. NASA said this leak did not pose a safety threat to the six space station residents. But problems with the cooling system could threaten experiments and equipment. It is still not clear why exactly the leak erupted. NASA speculates that a microscopic piece of space matter struck the space station, leaving a tiny crack in the ammonia pump. Another possibility is that there was simply a leaky seal in the pipe. Either way, “there’s nothing to lose by putting in a fresh pump and pressing ahead with additional detective work,” said Mission Control. Studies in Space The ISS was launched into orbit in 1998. Since 2000, a rotating crew of astronauts and scientists has continuously occupied it. While in orbit, the international team of astronauts performs scientific research and collects data about conditions in the Milky Way and beyond. Many of their experiments focus on humans’ ability to live and work in space over long periods of time. While these astronauts have performed some amazing tasks, NASA has never before staged a spacewalk so quickly. Marshburn has been on the space station since December, and Cassidy is a new arrival to the ISS. While the leaky pump mystery continues to puzzle the ISS team, they are hopeful further investigations will provide answers. “This type of event is what the years of training were for,” space station commander Chris Hadfield said in a tweet Friday. “A happy, busy crew, working hard, loving life in space.” .

American Rangelands and Forests Part 1 Choose either a rangeland or a forest of the United States and describe current federal management strategies. Explain federal efforts to manage these lands sustainably by completing the chart below. Rangeland or Forest Location Brief History of Rangeland or Forest What are current land management problems? What are the current federal land management strategies that address these problems? What is one sustainable effort that should be implemented? American Rangeland or Forest: name Part 2 Take your information from Part 1 and use it to create a Sustainability Plan. Your sustainability plan should present what, when, and how something is to be sustained and maintained now and into the indefinite future. Your plan can be submitted in a narrative or table format. The Corporation for National and Community Service (n.d.) provides the following list of components that make up a sustainability plan that should be included in your paper or table: 1. Action items : Provide the items or activities that need to be addressed or that need to occur. Refer to the following example: My plan for sustaining clean air in my community is to develop an education program about air pollution-generating activities and their effects, schedule a presentation day and time, invite community participants, and research the effects of air pollution. 2. Order of action items : Discuss how the action items in S tep 1 will align or occur. One event or activity should occur before another; thus, order the items into steps similar to the following: 1) Research the effects of air pollution. 2) Develop an education program. 3) Schedule a presentation day and time. 4) Invite the community. 3. Action steps : Explain how you are going to conduct the action items. How are you going to make each item or activity happen? Include individuals or groups who will help you conduct these activities. Use the following as a guide: In order to schedule a presentation day and time, I will attend next month’s community homeowner’s association (HOA) meeting and request permission from the board to add it to the following month’s agenda. 4. Timeline: Estimate when you are going to conduct the action items, such as “In months 1 – 3, I will complete the research.” If an item or activity does not have a specific conclusion time, indicate that it is ongoing. The following is a sample of how you might incorporate your sustainability plan into a table format—keep in mind this is an incomplete plan: Action Items (in the correct order) Action Steps Action Steps Research and identify the effects of air pollution. Review environmental websites and journals. Document the sources of air pollution and both environmental and health effects of air pollution. Document video interviews of environmental researchers and facilitators. Month 1–3 Develop an education program about air pollution effects. Develop a presentation about why.

American Guitar Company manufactures two different high quality acoustic guitars for retailers: beginner model and professional model. The company has two service departments: the maintenance department and the power department, and two manufacturing departments: the construction department and the finishing department. American Guitar chooses the reciprocal method to allocate service department costs. It uses operation costing to assign direct materials and conversion costs to its products, and absorption costing with normal costs for external reporting purposes. In the Construction Department, the wooden guitars are built by highly skilled craftsmen and coated with several layers of lacquer. Then the units are transferred to the Finishing Department, where the bridge of the guitar is attached and the strings are installed. The guitars also are tuned and inspected in the Finishing Department [1] . American Guitar estimates to have an annual practical capacity of 6000 guitars (1500 units of professional model and 4500 units of beginner model). The budgeted sales for 2013 are 1300 units professional model and 4300 units of beginner model. The diagram below depicts the manufacturing process. Amee and Aaron are 6-year-old twins of Josh and Lacy. Josh is an alcoholic and unemployed, and Lacy works two jobs to feed the family. When Lacy arrives home late from work, Josh is drunk after spending the day managing the children. Josh picks a fight with Lacy over petty issues and starts hitting her. Amee and Aaron try to protect their mother. As they tug on their father's leg, he stops hitting Lacy, falls to the floor, and begins to cry. This has been a nightly ritual since Josh lost his job six weeks ago. Before losing his job, Josh used to hit Lacy on a sporadic basis, usually when he had too much to drink. The children have developed a morbid fear of their father, and they are extra careful not to annoy him. At a parent/teacher conference, Lacy is told that her twins' aggressive behavior on the playground at recess is becoming an issue. Their teacher expresses concern and suggests that Lacy might want to investigate early intervention for her children. Without discussing the violence being experienced in the family, Lacy agrees with the teacher to pursue intervention for the twins' behavioral issues. Identify and integrate various psychoeducational or supportive approaches that might be used at the community level, such as at community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children like Amee and Aaron, who are at risk from family violence, to more effectively cope and develop resiliency. Be sure to address whether there may be differences between the responses seen for Amee and Aaron and provide your reasoning. Explore issues of gender, diversity, and ethics within the intervention approaches. response should be at least 2 pages long, and include a cover page and reference list. .

an article summary on this article A Walk in Space Astronauts investigate a leak at the International Space Station May 13, 2013 By Cameron Keady with AP reporting NASA Chris Cassidy inspects the International Space Station on May 11.

Explore issues of gender, diversity, and ethics within the intervention approaches. response should be at least 2 pages long, and include a cover page and reference list. .

Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them. Welcome to the Kisan Call Centre - your one-stop destination for agricultural assistance and support.
