Atapuerca is an important archaeological site located in Spain that has remains from different human species that lived in the area over hundreds of thousands of years. The site contains fossils of Homo antecessor from 900,000 years ago, many fossils of Homo heidelbergensis around 400,000 years old, and evidence of Homo sapiens occupation from 4,000 years ago. Atapuerca has provided insight into human evolution in Europe by uncovering fossils from earlier human species.
