This document provides guidelines for writing an essay for a sociology course, including sections on essay structure, organization, citations, and avoiding plagiarism. It recommends that essays have a clear overarching argument presented in the introduction, and sub-themes in the body that relate to the main argument. The conclusion should provide new insight without radically new material. It also provides examples of how to properly cite sources using both in-text citations and block quotations, and how to paraphrase while still giving credit to the original author.
