Introduction of assignment
This assignment is a group research project. Students who do not participate will get a zero
(0) score. Each group will create a topic for research. The topic chosen must be related to
‘Emerging Threats to National Infrastructures.’
How to create your research topic
➢ Think of an idea
➢ Log into the school library and go to ProQuest or any other academic site
➢ Type the idea as a topic in the search area
➢ Find a research study (dissertation 1-5 years old)
➢ Read the abstract of the article to see if it coincides with your topic idea
➢ Go to chapter five (Findings and Recommendations)
➢ Carefully examine the findings and recommendations
➢ Create your topic from what the author suggested more research needed
The research project should be at least ten pages in length. Each section of the research project
has specific requirements. In this assignment, a paragraph is 4-6 sentences directed towards a
particular subtopic. Using the APA 6th Edition format, each group should provide the following
information about their research project. The group will then conduct a mock semi-research
project by doing the following:
NB: For various reason, some of the sections as it relates to an academic research project

This section provides general guidance related to the research type and methodology. Please review this information carefully. There are specific research types and methods associated with the degree plan you are pursuing.
Research Study Type
For DBA students taking BUSI 987 – 990, the Research Study type is a Dissertation For DBA students taking BUSI 887 – 890, the Research Study type can be either a Case Study Project or a Consulting Project
With the dissertation or case study project approach, the student begins by researching the literature to find a problem, develops a research proposal to study the problem, and then finds an organization within which to study the problem. With the consulting project approach, the student begins with an organization with a problem, researches the literature to better understand the problem, and then develops a proposed solution to the problem. In all three cases a problem statement based upon the current literature must be developed.
Methodology
The methodology is how you will study the problem at a very high level, all research will be conducted using one of the following research approaches:
Fixed Design using Quantitative Methods Flexible Design using Qualitative Methods Mixed Method Design using Quantitative and Qualitative Methods
Fixed Designs are fully defined (fixed) as part of the research proposal and following the proposal, the researcher executes the research and analysis using quantitative tools as described. Flexible designs on the other hand are defined in a general sense as part of the research proposal and following the proposal, the researcher is free to execute adjust (flexible) the research as is necessary using qualitative tools as described. Mixed Method Designs as the name implies, use a combination of both. The choice of research approach is guided by the research questions.
Within each research approach there are specific methods that can be employed. The table below lists the most common methods utilized in the three research approaches. Once selected, the method becomes the methodology or specific ‘research design’ for the study.
Fixed Designs Experimental Quasi-experimental Nonexperimental Descriptive Correlational Causal-Comparative
Flexible Designs Narrative Phenomenology Grounded Theory Case Study Single Case Study Multiple Case Study Ethnography
Mixed Method Designs Convergent parallel Explanatory Sequential Exploratory Sequential Transformative
Common Methods for fixed, flexible and mixed research designs.
An effective way to begin the discussion of methodology is to start with the sentence: “This study will be conducted with a XXXXX design using XXXXX method(s) specifically, a XXXXX design will be used”
Examples:
This study will be conducted with a flexible design using qualitative methods specifically, a single case study design will be used.

Be sure to use the guidelines in Chapter 14 of the textbook to help with formatting (pages 269-288). (Pay attention to page breaks and headings.)
The following can be used as a checklist to ensure you have all of the required components and page lengths for the Research Proposal:
MBA 5652, Research Methods 6
Introduction: The student will need to introduce what the research proposal topic is about. See page 271 of your textbook. (Estimated length – one page)
Problem Statement: You need to identify a very specific problem within the stated topic. Do not let that problem be too broad. It should be narrowed down to a specific problem that is researchable. Present that problem in a general thesis statement stating why the problem is important enough to study. (Estimated length – one paragraph)
Rationale for the Research: You will need to explain what the study intends to accomplish. What rationale was used to determine the importance for this study? How does your study relate to larger issues? Make a persuasive statement to justify the reason for the study. Why is the study important? To whom is it important? What benefits will occur if this particular study is done? (Estimated length – half a page)
Statement of the Research Objectives: Identify the objectives and the purpose for the study. Example: The purpose and the objectives for this study are to …. Identify/understand/determine…. (Estimated length – half a page)
Hypothesis: A hypothesis is really an educated guess. A hypothesis results when the questions are transformed into statements that express the relationships between the variables within the proposed study. It is sometimes referred to as an “if/then” statement. See page 7 of your textbook. (Estimated length – half a page)
Definition of Terms: Define a minimum of five terms used throughout the proposal so that readers can be sure to understand the meaning of the terminology used. An example of a definition is: “For the purpose of this research, improvement is operationally defined as post test score minus pretest score.” (Estimated leng.

4. Each student submission will be checked for plagiarism. Warning... Turnitin has a very good and historical memory and is capable of accessing reports from both internal and external resources (i.e. Universities, Governments, etc.) including those originally written in non-English languages.
5. Only one submission attempt is permitted – BE SURE BEFORE YOU HIT ENTER. Plagiarism will result in a grade of zero (non-negotiable) for the assignment and may results in other university actions. The department chairperson will be notified of the violation.
6. Acceptable file formats for submissions include Microsoft Word (doc, docx) or Adobe Acrobat (PDF). Other formats are not acceptable.
7. The research paper must be at least 2,500 words supported by evidence (citations from peer-reviewed sources).
8. A minimum of four (4) peer-reviewed journal citations are required.
9. Formatting should be double-spaced, one-inch boarders, no extra space for headings, no extra white space, no more than two levels of heading, page numbers, front and back matter).

Qualitative/Quantitative Dissertation Checklist
· The purpose of the Dissertation checklist is twofold:
· Students: The checklist consists of components from the rubric and provides “tips” under each of the required rubric components. It is important for students to have consistency and clarity as they compose their dissertation for the chair/committee to read.
· Reviewers: The second focus is to provide the committee with a document which includes the same expectations so the number of times a dissertation is returned is minimized. As reviewers conduct a review of a dissertation/proposal they can use the checklist to help students recognize missing components and areas for improvement.
· The following provides guidance for writing and reviewing qualitative and quantitative studies. The areas relative to a specific methods (qualitative or quantitative) are noted in the highlighted areas where applicable as follows:
Qualitative
Quantitative
Qualitative/Quantitative Comments
· All items may not be relevant to your particular study; please consult with your chair for guidance.
· The checklist items may not necessarily be in the order that works best for your dissertation. Please consult with your committee and the dissertation guide; however, the checklist should work well in the absence of other considerations.
· Instructions for Students:
· Indicate on the checklist the page number (use the actual document page number, not the MS Word pagination) where the required information is located.
· Respond to comments from the chair, committee member and/or URR in the comment history box. Do not delete previous comments(just add your response and use some means to clearly identify your remarks (use different font/bold/italics/color; not highlights as those become very difficult to read comments through)
· Note: If your chair requires you to develop a change matrix, make sure you capture the chair and/or member’s comments, the specific actions you have taken to address the comments and the page number where your chair can find the changes that you have made in your document. (Note: specific actions are the actual changes in the document and not generalized comments such as corrected, deleted or changed).
· Instructions for the Chair/Committee Member and/or URR
· Provide specific feedback in the comment history column. Do not delete previous comments - add your response and use some means to clearly identify your remarks (different font/bold/italics/color).
· If you made detailed comments on the draft (using track changes and comments), you can make reference to the draft rather than restate everything in the checklist comment history section. A way to show repetition of errors would be to attach the original review along with the current review in TaskStream or email.

A Qualitative Study on Reframing the Problem-solving Paradigm of Management Science.
Neither Qualitative nor Quantitative methods, as they are currently constituted, adequately resolve the problems of representation and legitimation in the management sciences. This project seeks to resolve contradictions in the ontological and epistemological foundations of social science in order to overcome shortcomings in the two major paradigms that are used in research, where different views of the same phenomena emerge and multiple realities appear to exist.

Assignment Part I:
Research topic and paper outline development
Objective
The goal of this course is to provide you with the concepts and skills necessary to acquire various sources and to organize this information to write an original research paper. This assignment is an extension of the in-class exercise completed in Module 3. In this assignment, the goal is to develop a research topic and develop a research paper outline. As you develop your research paper, think about the following questions: why is this topic important? What is your purpose or thesis statement?
How do you plan to organize these concepts?
Assignment
To find a research topic, start from:
·
Your program of studies or courses that you are taking
·
Topics that you have great interests but have not yet researched academically
·
A current hot topic, trend or new idea in your discipline that interests you.
You will do several in-class exercises on how to develop a concept map, a research topic, and a research paper outline. The in-class exercises will help you complete this assignment. In the assignment, you need to provide more detailed information and organize the research paper outline systematically with source information.
The research paper outline reflects the investigation of your research topic. In each heading and subheading of the outline, you need to cite your sources.
Format

assignment mental health disorders
A 38-year-old woman presents to the office with complaints of weight
loss, fatigue, and insomnia of 3-month duration. She reports that she has
been feeling gradually more tired and staying up late at night because
she can’t sleep. She does not feel that she is doing as well in her occupation
as a secretary and states that she has trouble remembering things.
She does not go outdoors as much as she used to and cannot recall the
last time she went out with friends or enjoyed a social gathering. She
feels tired most of the week and states she feels that she wants to go to
sleep and frequently does not want to get out of bed. She denies any
recent medication, illicit drug, or alcohol use. She feels intense guilt
regarding past failed relationships because she perceives them as faults.
She states she has never thought of suicide, but has begun to feel increasingly
worthless.
Her vital signs and general physical examination are normal, although
she becomes tearful while talking. Her mental status examination is significant
for depressed mood, psychomotor retardation, and difficulty attending
to questions. Laboratory studies reveal a normal metabolic panel, normal
complete blood count, and normal thyroid functions.

Assignment Marking Criteria and FeedbackStrengths of this as.docxhoward4little59962
Assignment Marking Criteria and Feedback
Strengths of this assignment and how it might be improved:
Your introduction is not terribly relevant. You would do better to keep it simple and signpost the reader.
Your analysis begins with a generic description of the problems associated with intangibility. Remember that this assignment is about the application of theory rather than description. The remainder of your analysis highlights some of the issues in the case study. However, there is no application of theory. You could have used any one of a number of frameworks to frame your analysis and give it greater depth: Servuction model, Flower of Service, Gaps model, etc. Furthermore, I would like to see you explain the reasons for these problems. In this case study, the lack of service culture is a significant issue.
With regard to recommendations, it would again be better if you approach the task in a more systematic way rather than making random suggestions with no indication as to which problems these activities will resolve. For example, are testimonials a priority? Given that the service being offered is poor, there may not be many customers with anything positive to say. Wouldn’t it be better to fix underlying issues first? You recommend personal selling and communications but there is a lack of detail and no explanation as to what problems these activities would address. You recommend that the company needs to act on the feedback it receives (page 6), but you do not say how. Similarly, recommendations like personalised service might be relevant but you do not say what this means in practice.
Overall, there is a lack of application of theory to this response. You need to look back over the lecture slides and use appropriate models to frame your analysis and recommendations. While what you write is sound, it does not directly address the case study. There is insufficient detail.
Very limited reference list (because of the lack of theory in the response). Remember that references should be in alphabetical order.

Hypothesis: A hypothesis is really an educated guess. A hypothesis results when the questions are transformed into statements that express the relationships between the variables within the proposed study. It is sometimes referred to as an “if/then” statement. See page 7 of your textbook. (Estimated length – half a page)

Assignment Leadership and Strategic PlanningIn this assignm.docxhoward4little59962
Assignment: Leadership and Strategic Planning
In this assignment, you consider how leaders can engage in a strategic planning process with stakeholders to develop a plan to guide the organization’s evolution and development for the long-term. Since strategic planning should engage persons who will be affected by an organization’s decisions (e.g., staff, administration, board members, members of the community), it is important to include key stakeholders in the planning process so that it reflects their perspectives and interests.
For this Assignment, think about how you would begin the strategic planning process for a human services organization. Consider the human services organizations for which you have worked either in your fieldwork or as an employee. Based on what you know about a particular organization, what steps might you take to establish a plan for the organization’s long-term development?
Assignment (600 - word in APA format):
- Describe the
first three steps
you would take to begin the strategic planning process for a human services organization.
- Define the key stakeholders—who should be involved in each step and why they need to be included in the process.
- Include steps you would take to establish stakeholder support and confidence.
Note:
Although you will base your strategic plan on what you know about an actual organization,
do not include any identifying information about the organization or its stakeholders.

Patients are frequently uncomfortable discussing with healthcare professional’s issues that involve the genitalia and rectum; however, gathering an adequate history and properly conducting a physical exam are vital. Examining case studies of genital and rectal abnormalities can help prepare advanced practice nurses to accurately assess patients with problems in these areas.
In this Lab Assignment, you will analyze an Episodic note case study that describes abnormal findings in patients seen in a clinical setting. You will consider what history should be collected from the patients, as well as which physical exams and diagnostic tests should be conducted. You will also formulate a differential diagnosis with several possible conditions.
To Prepare
Review the Episodic note case study your instructor provides you for this week’s Assignment. Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your Episodic note case study.
Based on the Episodic note case study:
Review this week’s Learning Resources, and consider the insights they provide about the case study. Refer to Chapter 3 of the Sullivan resource to guide you as you complete your Lab Assignment.
Search the Walden library or the Internet for evidence-based resources to support your answers to the questions provided.
Consider what history would be necessary to collect from the patient in the case study.
Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition. How would the results be used to make a diagnosis?
Identify
at least five
possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient.
The Lab Assignment
Using evidence-based resources from your search, answer the following questions and support your answers using current evidence from the literature.
Analyze the subjective portion of the note. List additional information that should be included in the documentation.
Analyze the objective portion of the note. List additional information that should be included in the documentation.
Is the assessment supported by the subjective and objective information? Why or why not?
Would diagnostics be appropriate for this case, and how would the results be used to make a diagnosis?
Would you reject/accept the current diagnosis? Why or why not? Identify three possible conditions that may be considered as a differential diagnosis for this patient. Explain your reasoning using at least three different references from current evidence-based literature.

Assignment Journal Entry – Media and SexismMany marketing effor.docxhoward4little59962
Assignment: Journal Entry – Media and Sexism
Many marketing efforts perpetuate the gender stereotypes that are steeped in our culture. Two examples at attempts to maintain these stereotypes through advertising are the Bic Critsal For Her and the Easy Bake Oven. These two conceivably innocuous items triggered a flood of articles, petitions, and videos, denouncing their perceived underlying messages.
The first controversy that erupted surrounded the Bic Cristal For Her pen. This pen was created and packaged specifically for women to use. Several groups lashed out at Bic, calling their attempt to target women with "lady pens" sexist and demeaning. Its detractors felt the campaign was degrading and fed into stereotypes by highlighting the thin design and the use of pastel colors. The negative press was overwhelming, although the pens have remained on the market.
Consumers also targeted those responsible for marketing the Easy Bake Oven by sending a petition asking its parent company Hasbro to make the ovens in colors other than pink and purple. Thousands of individuals signed the petition asking for alternative oven colors after a teenage girl from New Jersey was angered that her younger brother would have no other option but to use an oven in the colors that are considered stereotypically female. It was argued that the colors supported the stereotypical view that only young girls would want to bake. The signers of the petition felt that young boys who might want to use the toy would be more likely to practice their baking skills if the color of the oven was gender neutral.
Consider these two stories and think about your own reactions to the responses to the advertising and merchandising of these items.
To prepare:
View the assigned resources and reflect on your experience with gender.
Submit a
2- to 4- page paper, in which you:
Identify specific messages about gender presented in the mass media.
Discuss messages about gender you have received from your family or cultural group.
Analyze how these messages have influenced your experience with gender.

You are to write a 150 words email.
Detail on an aspect(s) of the unit that personally surprised you, changed your thinking and how will you use it in your professional writing
.
Your reflection should not be an academic rephrasing! It is a reflection. Your e
mail must be professional and not overly casual.
How to Write a Reflection
Writing a reflection is multifaceted. The writer needs to do so much before writing, and in the moment of the writing (and editing), the author must stay on track to his/her focus while giving plenty of detail for the reader to FEEL the message. It’s as much about thinking and thinking about thinking as it is to feeling.
Reflection is a combination of cognition, emotion, and body sensations. Here is an approach to help you reflect well. Not only will you learn the information, but the process of reflection actually boosts the brain’s ability to make decisions.
1. Using a quiet mind and a quiet environment, be quiet and listen to your thoughts. Reflection is quiet.
2.
Step One
is
Critical Thinking
: Ask questions like…
What did I learn that I expected? What did I learn that I didn’t expect?
How am I changed?
What will I do with this information?
How will I influence others with this information?
3.
Step Two: Examine your own thinking
. How was I thinking that? What was I thinking? Why? What were my biases, assumptions, etc?
4.
Step
Four
(We skip gathering information.): After confidence to your learning based on the content covered, decide a writing core –
a focus.
5.
Write in first person.

Assignment IntelligenceThis week, you viewed a video with histo.docxhoward4little59962
Assignment: Intelligence
This week, you viewed a video with historical footage of immigrants arriving at Ellis Island in New York Harbor. If you have not viewed this video, stop and do so now—or watch it again, this time with the perspective of what it would feel like to be in that scene. You may have relatives that arrived through Ellis Island or a similar entry point in other parts of the country. Imagine being in that moment, having endured great hardship, and then facing a test that checks your intelligence—and for no small reason. It will determine whether you can enter the United States.
Based on what you are learning about culture, is it likely that test would be fair in assessing the knowledge of those who speak languages other than English and have wildly different sets of experiences? Additionally, different cultures have different definitions of intelligence. Some cultures integrate movement and emotions into the concept of intelligence. Other cultures value analytical thinking. Still others highlight nonverbal communication. Sadly, many Ellis Island immigrants were labeled “feeble-minded” by extremely biased intelligence tests and, after all those hardships, were refused entry into America.
You will return to the issue of bias by examining how intelligence tests can favor some cultures over others. Through the Learning Resources, you will experience
two
types of intelligence tests and imagine how you might do if each test had major stakes for you—such as whether you could vote, be accepted by a college, or be allowed to enter a country. Intelligence tests have been used for those and other purposes—and sometimes with the express purpose of excluding some groups over others.
For this Assignment, you will examine how culture influences the definition of “intelligence” and what is considered “common knowledge” and analyze your own experiences with differing cultural views of these concepts.
To prepare:
Review the Week 2 Learning Resources, with particular attention to Chapter 5 in the course text and the media piece on Ellis Island immigration.
Take the
two
short assigned tests, “The Original Australian Test of Intelligence” and “The Chitling Intelligence Test,” in the Learning Resources. Note the tests cannot be filled in online. Use paper and pencil to record your answers, and then click the scoring sheet link to check your results.
Consider how well you did on each test. What kind of knowledge was needed to do well, and how “common” is that knowledge? Consider questions in both tests that stand out to you as examples of cultural bias.
Based on your experience, consider what conclusions you can draw about the meaning of “intelligence” and “common knowledge” across cultures and the potential for constructing an intelligence test without cultural bias.
Consider the various views of intelligence discussed in your Learning Resources and consider how they are similar or different from your own views.
Keep in mind the goa.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

How to Make a Field invisible in Odoo 17Celine George
It is possible to hide or invisible some fields in odoo. Commonly using “invisible” attribute in the field definition to invisible the fields. This slide will show how to make a field invisible in odoo 17.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Red: The indication of the example header
Blue: All blues are examples of the requirements for that
section of the assignment
Introduction of assignment
This assignment is a group research project. Students who do
not participate will get a zero
(0) score. Each group will create a topic for research. The topic
chosen must be related to
‘Emerging Threats to National Infrastructures.’
2. How to create your research topic
➢ Think of an idea
➢ Log into the school library and go to ProQuest or any other
academic site
➢ Type the idea as a topic in the search area
➢ Find a research study (dissertation 1-5 years old)
➢ Read the abstract of the article to see if it coincides with your
topic idea
➢ Go to chapter five (Findings and Recommendations)
➢ Carefully examine the findings and recommendations
➢ Create your topic from what the author suggested more
research needed
The research project should be at least ten pages in length. Each
section of the research project
has specific requirements. In this assignment, a paragraph is 4-6
sentences directed towards a
particular subtopic. Using the APA 6th Edition format, each
group should provide the following
information about their research project. The group will then
conduct a mock semi-research
project by doing the following:
3. NB: For various reason, some of the sections as it relates to an
academic research project
were removed.
The assignment
➢ Research topic:
o Introduced and described to establish the main ideas and
context of the proposed
research topic (Two paragraphs with at least three different
citations)
Example:
The research topic is introduced and described to establish the
main ideas and context of
the proposed study
➢ Provide an overview of the research project
o (Provide credible information from authors or practitioners
who have conducted
research in this discipline and have recommended more research
is needed) (At
least five paragraphs at least 12 different in-text citations)
Example:
Over the past two decades, the [environment of your problem]
has changed. While
………have improved,………….. aspects have not achieved the
same level of expectations
4. (reference, 2013). Toward this end, research investigations have
indicated [a shortage or gap in
the knowledge that is needed – what is this] (reference, 2013;
reference, 2009). This lack of
……….. is creating……………., which must be improved to
……………. Therefore,
………….. research is needed to ………………(reference, 2013).
Explain why is the topic of
current interest….Why is the research area of importance to
practical concerns
➢ Provide the research methodology will be used
o Qualitative or Quantitative and why?
o (At least two paragraphs at least four different citations)
➢ Provide a problem statement for the research project
o (At least two paragraphs at least six different citations)
Example:
-Discusses the general issue/observation that in practice leads to
the need for a study
-Citations are five years old or less from peer-reviewed
literature or Government databases
-Problem identified is a practical problem versus a theoretical
problem
-Problem is directly connected to the course topic and
concentrations
➢ Provide a purpose statement for the research project
o (At least two paragraphs at least six different citations)
Example:
5. Qualitative Methodology
• After establishing the statement of the problem, align the
purpose statement with the
problem statement
• The purpose statement identifies the direction and goals of the
proposed/accomplished
work
• The following content should be considered for inclusion in a
purpose statement
• The strategy of inquiry
• The study’s method of conveying learning
• The central phenomenon of the study
• The participants in the study
• The site of the research
• The phenomenon or primary idea used to focus the study
• A tentative definition of the central phenomenon
Quantitative Methodology
• After establishing the statement of the problem, align the
purpose statement with the
problem statement
• The purpose statement identifies the direction and goals of the
proposed/accomplished
work
• The following content should be considered for inclusion in a
purpose statement
– The study type description
– The study’s independent variable, dependent variable, and
control variable
– Participants
– The geographical location of the study
– Definitions of the independent variable, dependent variable,
and control variable
– Additional results the study may provide
6. – The intended users of the research results
➢ Provide a research question for the project
o -Questions are aligned with problem and purpose (i.e.,
research questions are the
problem stated as a question) Research questions are not
answerable with a “Yes”
or “No” response
o (Qualitative research questions should start with the words
such as what or
how…. quantitative should begin with is, are, or why) (At least
2 paragraphs at
least 6 different citations)
Example:
• Research questions are for the researcher only
• Research questions guide the researcher’s thinking to ensure
the proper data are
collected, which answers the problem in the problem statement
or fills the noted gap
• Qualitative research questions should start with the words
what or how
– Creswell (2009) indicated these words indicate an openness
and emergence of
design, which addresses the phenomenon of interest
– Your qualitative study will have one overarching research
question
– Qualitative research questions are developed based on a
central question
– Qualitative research questions do not have hypotheses
Qualitative Research Question example ... If the problem
sentence is …The problem to be
addressed in the proposed study is since 1980, more than 50%
7. of small business start-ups fail in
the first 5 years because the leadership competencies for start-
up IT managers have not been
established (Greene, 2012). Then the purpose sentence is … The
purpose of the proposed
qualitative phenomenological study is to explore the leadership
competencies for start-up IT
managers. Then the research question is …What are the
leadership competencies for start-up IT
managers? Quantitative Research Question example…
Focus your research questions on the possible relationship
(correlation) between/among
variables, only. Consider formatting your research questions as
To what extent, if any, does (independent variable) relate to
(dependent variable)
for (participants) at (the research site)?
In addition, hypotheses are needed for quantitative questions
Hypothesis statement format
H10: <null>
H1A: <alternative>
• H10: IT flexibility is not correlated to IT effectiveness
• H1A: IT flexibility is correlated to IT effectiveness
Example
To what extent, if any, is there a significant influence of
operational software types (independent
variable [IV]) on user satisfaction (dependent variable [DV])
within small manufacturing
businesses?
H10: A correlation does not exist between operational software
types (IV) and
user satisfaction (DV) within small manufacturing businesses
H1A: A correlation does exist between operational software
types (IV) and user
8. satisfaction (DV) within small manufacturing businesses
➢ Hypotheses/Propositions
o You do not have both. Hypotheses are used for quantitative
research. Proposition
is used for qualitative research
Example:
Quantitative:
- Rationale for the hypotheses is provided
- Both null and alternative hypotheses are provided
- Hypotheses are testable with each variable operationalized
- Phrasing of hypotheses reflects nature of analysis (i.e.,
comparison, relationship, or association)
Qualitative:
- Provide statements that direct the focus of the study
➢ Significance of the Study
o (At least 3 paragraphs at least 6 different citations)
Example:
Present the following
– A global reason for conducting the study
– The study’s uniqueness
– The anticipated value or impact to the problem domain (i.e.,
what specifically to
management)
– Who specifically will benefit from the study’s results
• Academic field,
• Society,
9. • Profession,
• Community, or
• Population
-------------------------------------
From the checklist… Suggest a paragraph for each of the
bulleted items.
• Indicates a global reason for the study and its uniqueness

domain (i.e., what specifically to
management or computer science)
• Indicates who will benefit from the study’s results (i.e., the
academic field, to society, to a
profession, to the community, and/or to a particular population)
➢ Definition of Terms
o 15 commonly used words with cited definitions
Example:
A need exists for a knowledge sharing vocabulary that
establishes similar meaning and
enable common understanding
• Words defined in an unusual manner or have more than one
definition need to be defined
• Terms must be unique and critical to the study
• Presented alphabetically
• Suggest the following format
Term: The term is . . . (reference, year).

• Discusses definitions representing key operational terms or
words that are unique and/or
critical to reader understanding (i.e., defined in an unusual
manner or have more than one
10. definition)
• Definitions are supported with citations while minimizing
quotations
➢ General overview of the research method and design
o (At least 3 paragraphs at least 9 different citations)
Example:
Writing for this section should address
o Brief statement of what a methodology establishes
o Indicate three methodologies exist
o Indicate which methodology is chosen and why
o Indicate why other two methodologies were not chosen
o Based on chosen methodology, indicate design options
available
o Indicate which design is chosen and why
