List five academic references related to the topic approved for
your research paper and provide a 3 to 5 sentence summary of
the article and how you intend to use each reference. The
summary must be in your own words and references must be
formatted in accordance with the University's Writing Style
Handbook, accessible through the Center for Writing
Excellence. Post your completed reference sheet as an
attachment through the Assignments section.
You may use more than five references for your research paper,
but only five should be listed for this assignment. Remember,
all references must be of an academic nature. Sources such as
Wikipedia, blogs, and answer.com are not academic references
and cannot be used.

For this article, the author observed interactions between state
game warden officers and citizens to determine what factors
tended to influence officers' decisions. The author determined
that some of the most significant factors were seriousness of the
offense, a previous record of violating the law, demeanor of the
suspect, and prior decisions made by the courts (was the judge
likely to convict based on the circumstances of the case). I can
use the information from this reference to learn how police
discretion is influenced and applied and to support my theory
that police use discretion in a reasonable manner to promote
justice according to the spirit of the law.
