Are Hispanics considered a minority only due to their numbers? Other relevant concepts that might apply to what you’ve written here might be symbolic interaction and cultural differentiation.
You needed to apply two theories this week. You might have used social identity theory to explain your feeling of comfort around those like you in terms of the ethnicity and social status. You might also have used Interactionist theory to explain the process of cultural transmission of Hispanic norms and values, especially those that apply to Hispanic males as well as to explain why skin color may be significant in the U.S. while it is not as significant in Latin American countries. Interactionists would also suggest that taking one’s time may be interpreted as being lazy in the US and this might result in conflict. Our culture shapes our perceptions and in turn, this influences how we react to those who are not like us in certain respects. Your APA format is very good overall. Consider the impact of chronic marginalization on the Black/African American community's ability to build wealth. While the income gaps between various ethnic groups may be decreasing, the gap between assets remains wide. Data from the Pew Research center show that the median wealth of Caucasian households is 20 times that of Black/African American households and 18 times that of Hispanic/Latinos households in the U.S. (Pew Research Center, 2011).

A person has just started a world travel experience, and here they land in Japan where they will be spending a night with a welcoming host family. Everything is fantastic the guest speaks a small bit of Japanese and is able to communicate with them. The guest is invited to a family dinner in their house. As the meal begins the entire family is enjoying the food so much that it is increasing the guest’s biggest pet peeve, slurping the food. Little does the guest know that their pet peeve is a sign of appreciation in the country of Japan. The guest is not participating in the slurping as they were taught that slurping was an activity that was looked down upon by Americans. This is an example of a social faux pas in the country of Japan. Personally a social faux pas that really turns me off is hacking and spitting in public areas. It just creates the heebe jeebes because I was taught social ettique. Can words breach the idea of social ettique, or is it just considered social faux pas?
A social faux pas can be confused with microaggressions. Microaggressions are defined as acts of mostly non physical aggression -- they are common place verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities that can be intentional or unintentional and communicate derogatory slights. Racial microaggressions suggests that people of color endure physical and physiological distress (Robinson-Wood et al., 2018). These microaggressions occur across many different identities such as skin color, body size, mental ability, age, and social class. When a person fits into multiple identities that overlap such as being gay and black, can experience more microaggressions versus a person who is white and gay. There are a lot of words that describe microaggressions, but what actually is an example of microaggressions?
If you have ever walked through Target wearing khakis and a red shirt and automatically being asked to help a customer, you have experienced a microaggression. You were assumed to be in a service role just because of the clothes you were wearing. According to Byrd, some examples of microaggressions include being stared at in the dining hall, asking an Asian person “you must be good at math, can you help me with this problem?”, or when someone merely crosses a street to avoid a person of color (Byrd, 2018). People are not necessarily conscious of these actions. It can be a taught attribute; like crossing the road to avoid a person of color, the person’s parent could have been thinking they are protecting the child from a potentially scary situation like a mugging. The child then learned that they should avoid any colored person on the street. The unconscious nature of humans can lead to some hurtful actions.

Stereotypes, like bias, are a social phenomenon that fuels isms. Every culture has stereotypes.
Part of understanding stereotypes more deeply requires us to answer such questions as "How are stereotypes formed?" A person has just started a world travel experience, and here they land in Japan where they will be spending a night with a welcoming host family. Everything is fantastic the guest speaks a small bit of Japanese and is able to communicate with them. The guest is invited to a family dinner in their house. As the meal begins the entire family is enjoying the food so much that it is increasing the guest’s biggest pet peeve, slurping the food. Little does the guest know that their pet peeve is a sign of appreciation in the country of Japan. The guest is not participating in the slurping as they were taught that slurping was an activity that was looked down upon by Americans. This is an example of a social faux pas in the country of Japan. Personally a social faux pas that really turns me off is hacking and spitting in public areas. It just creates the heebe jeebes because I was taught social ettique. Can words breach the idea of social ettique, or is it just considered social faux pas?
A social faux pas can be confused with microaggressions. Microaggressions are defined as acts of mostly non physical aggression -- they are common place verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities that can be intentional or unintentional and communicate derogatory slights. Racial microaggressions suggests that people of color endure physical and physiological distress (Robinson-Wood et al., 2018). These microaggressions occur across many different identities such as skin color, body size, mental ability, age, and social class. When a person fits into multiple identities that overlap such as being gay and black, can experience more microaggressions versus a person who is white and gay. There are a lot of words that describe microaggressions, but what actually is an example of microaggressions?
If you have ever walked through Target wearing khakis and a red shirt and automatically being asked to help a customer, you have experienced a microaggression. You were assumed to be in a service role just because of the clothes you were wearing. According to Byrd, some examples of microaggressions include being stared at in the dining hall, asking an Asian person “you must be good at math, can you help me with this problem?”, or when someone merely crosses a street to avoid a person of color (Byrd, 2018). People are not necessarily conscious of these actions. It can be a taught attribute; like crossing the road to avoid a person of color, the person’s parent could have been thinking they are protecting the child from a potentially scary situation like a mugging. The child then learned that they should avoid any colored person on the street. The unconscious nature of humans can lead to some hurtful actions.

Stereotypes, like bias, are a social phenomenon that fuels isms. Every culture has stereotypes.
Part of understanding stereotypes more deeply requires us to answer such questions as "How are stereotypes formed?" "What attitudes, beliefs, or experiences maintain stereotypes?" and "How are stereotypes changed?" That is where research comes in. Unfortunately, it is hard to research a topic when research participants do not want to admit that they hold stereotypes, let alone use them to make life decisions.

Humans understand the world by creating categories and labeling concepts and, in this way, apply the concepts in a new circumstance. Stereotypes fall into this category of labeling concepts. They provide a system of coding that facilitates the acquisition of knowledge. On the other hand, stereotypes often demean people by distorting individual characteristics, skills, and abilities. By classifying people based on perceived characteristics of a group, inaccuracies arise at individual and group levels. These inaccuracies about individuals or groups can inhibit effective communication. As an intercultural communicator, however, there are some instances when using stereotypes can be helpful in gaining a level of cultural competence.

Cultural differences exist in how people communicate with each other. Understanding how cultures communicate is important to effectively communicate within a multicultural environment. For example, imagine if you moved to a state or territory of the Middle East. In a multicultural environment, one must learn to work in a group whose members are from both collectivistic and individualistic cultures. ne of my friends was in a spiritual growth group whose
members became quite close. They provided each other with
a warm, supportive environment to share their joy and pain.
Everyone except my friend and her husband were European
American, but this did not seem to be an issue until one
meeting, when my friend shared her pain about what she
believed to be a racist comment from someone outside the
group. Rather than validate her experience, the group asked
her questions about why the person would make such a com-
ment. They seemed to be looking for a way to justify it and, in
the process, implied that she was overreacting. As the tension
built, one member objected to the time being spent on this
issue, saying, "You know, this is a spiritual growth group, not
an antiracism group." My friend replied, "But racism is a spir-
itual issue for me." Unfortunately, the group members were
unanimous in their inability to see this situation from my
friend's perspective; the result was that she and her husband
decided to leave the group.
The dictionary defines privilege as a right or immunity
that gives the individual a distinct advantage or favor; in con-
trast, the term oppressed is described as the state of being bur-
dened spiritually or mentally, suppressed or crushed by an
abuse of power (Merriam-Webster, 1983). Mclntosh (1998)
compared White privilege to an invisible knapsack that White

people can count on to make life easier. For example, European Amer-
icans can usually choose to be in the company of their own race when
they want to be, they are not asked to speak for their race, they rarely
have trouble finding housing because of their race, and so on.
However, as discussed in chapter 2, privilege also tends to isolate
people, cutting them off from information and experiences related to
specific minority groups that could be helpful and enrich their lives. In
my friend's case, the privilege experienced by the European Americans
in the group led them to believe that racism was not the problem, and
because they all agreed with each other, their position of "rightness"
was affirmed. The only information they had to contradict their belief
was that provided by my friend and her husband, whose views were
easily dismissed because they were in the minority.
People all have their own unique identities and experiences, and con-
sequently the areas in which they hold privilege vary. In general, though,
these privileged areas are often those in which people hold the least aware-

Gender stereotyping reflects the perceived psychological traits and characteristics of males and females, and the related roles that are thought to be appropriate for each gender in family, work, school, and society as a whole. Gender stereotyping impacts individuals in terms of how they view themselves and their place in society, as well as how society views the respective gender and the appropriate behavior and roles for each. The implications can be far reaching.
It is evident by studying history that gender stereotypes have changed over time. One obvious example is in the history of women's suffrage. It was believed in the U.S. that women were not sufficiently mentally astute to vote on the important issues impacting society. The belief was that a woman's place was in the home raising children and taking care of the domestic needs of the family. With women's suffrage in the early 20th century and the century that has followed, this stereotype has been changed. Not only do women vote but they hold every office at all levels including heads of state and presidencies across the globe. The 2016 presidential election even featured the first female nominee from a major political party.
As a foundation for the study of gender, this Application Assignment asks you to explore gender stereotypes in some depth, including a consideration of the numerous stereotypes for both men and women; how stereotypes differ by culture; and how stereotypes impact individuals of that gender, the opposite gender, and society as a whole.

1. Individualism and civic or community involvement.
What does individualism mean in American culture, how it relates to concepts and values such as freedom, democracy, civic responsibility, community involvement. Be able to discuss how all this is related. Be able to discuss the concept of social capital and its decline. Understand and be able to explain the difference between utilitarian liberalism and moral liberalism. How do Americans connect their own fulfillment to that of other people, despite (or because of) individualism?
2. America as a land apart. This examines how Americans have always thought of America as somehow different, special, set apart from other people, cultures, or countries. It applies to questions like whether America is seen as a haven for the world’s oppressed, as a power in the world, etc. It refers to how many generations of immigrants have seen America and why they came here. It also refers to several opposing or conflicting attitudes and values, such as isolationism (America should not get involved with the rest of the world), nativism (foreign immigrants are the problem), extreme patriotism? What are the positive and negative sides to American exceptionalism?
3. Equality and inequality. This includes the tensions between our cultural ideals and values of equality and the reality of inequality in America—poverty, racism, the heritage of slavery and relations to Native Americans, etc. You should be able to explain how/why social categories such as race, social class, and even gender, as socially constructed, not biological or inherent--how racial and class categories are socially constructed and negotiated and “man-made,” rather than biologically inherent and “God-given.” Basically: our physical and genetic traits are inherent and given, but how we and others choose to perceive, emphasize, or ignore various physical and genetic traits, how we place people into arbitrary categories based on these traits, and how we set one category as “higher” or better than another are all socially constructed and learned. We can look at inequality as giving different groups of people different access to wealth, power, and prestige, and how the same social categories that define our identity (race, ethnicity, gender, etc.) also place us somewhere in a social hierarchy. We can always “negotiate” and try to change this. One of the very first cases that caught Freud’s attention when he was starting to develop his psychoanalytic theory was that of Anna O, a patient of fellow psychiatrist Josef Breuer. It is her case that he believes was the beginning of the psychoanalytic approach.

The Case of Anna O.
One of the first cases that inspired Freud in the development of what would eventually become the Psychoanalytic Theory was the case of Anna O. Anna O. was actually a patient of one of Freud’s colleagues Josef Breuer. Using Breuer’s case notes, Freud was able to analyze the key facts of Anna O’s case.
Anna O. first developed her symptoms while she was taking care of her very ill father with whom she was extremely close. Some of her initial symptoms were loss of appetite to the extent of not eating, weakness, anemia, and development a severe nervous cough. Eventually she developed a severe optic headache and lost the ability to move her head, which then progressed into paralysis of both arms. Her symptoms were not solely physical as she would vacillate between a normal, mental state and a manic-type state in which she would become extremely agitated. There was even a notation of a time for which she hallucinated that the ribbons in her hair were snakes.
Toward the end of her father’s life she stopped speaking her native language of German and instead only spoke in English. A little over a year after she began taking care of her father he passed away. After his passing her symptoms grew to affect her vision, a loss of ability to focus her attention, more extreme hallucinations, and a number of suicidal attempts (Hurst, 1982).
Both Freud and Jung would acknowledge that unconscious processes are at work in this woman's problems. However, they would come to different conclusions about the origin of these problems and the method by which she should be treated.

ne of my friends was in a spiritual growth group whose
members became quite close. They provided each other with
a warm, supportive environment to share their joy and pain.
Everyone except my friend and her husband were European
American, but this did not seem to be an issue until one
meeting, when my friend shared her pain about what she
believed to be a racist comment from someone outside the
group. Rather than validate her experience, the group asked
her questions about why the person would make such a com-
ment. They seemed to be looking for a way to justify it and, in
the process, implied that she was overreacting. As the tension
built, one member objected to the time being spent on this
issue, saying, "You know, this is a spiritual growth group, not
an antiracism group." My friend replied, "But racism is a spir-
itual issue for me." Unfortunately, the group members were
unanimous in their inability to see this situation from my
friend's perspective; the result was that she and her husband
decided to leave the group.
The dictionary defines privilege as a right or immunity
that gives the individual a distinct advantage or favor; in con-
trast, the term oppressed is described as the state of being bur-
dened spiritually or mentally, suppressed or crushed by an
abuse of power (Merriam-Webster, 1983). Mclntosh (1998)
compared White privilege to an invisible knapsack that White

people can count on to make life easier. For example, European Amer-
icans can usually choose to be in the company of their own race when
they want to be, they are not asked to speak for their race, they rarely
have trouble finding housing because of their race, and so on.
However, as discussed in chapter 2, privilege also tends to isolate
people, cutting them off from information and experiences related to
specific minority groups that could be helpful and enrich their lives. In
my friend's case, the privilege experienced by the European Americans
in the group led them to believe that racism was not the problem, and
because they all agreed with each other, their position of "rightness"
was affirmed. The only information they had to contradict their belief
was that provided by my friend and her husband, whose views were
easily dismissed because they were in the minority.
People all have their own unique identities and experiences, and con-
sequently the areas in which they hold privilege vary. In general, though,
these privileged areas are often those in which people hold the least aware-

Gender stereotyping reflects the perceived psychological traits and characteristics of males and females, and the related roles that are thought to be appropriate for each gender in family, work, school, and society as a whole. Gender stereotyping impacts individuals in terms of how they view themselves and their place in society, as well as how society views the respective gender and the appropriate behavior and roles for each. The implications can be far reaching.
It is evident by studying history that gender stereotypes have changed over time. One obvious example is in the history of women's suffrage. It was believed in the U.S. that women were not sufficiently mentally astute to vote on the important issues impacting society. The belief was that a woman's place was in the home raising children and taking care of the domestic needs of the family. With women's suffrage in the early 20th century and the century that has followed, this stereotype has been changed. Not only do women vote but they hold every office at all levels including heads of state and presidencies across the globe. The 2016 presidential election even featured the first female nominee from a major political party.
As a foundation for the study of gender, this Application Assignment asks you to explore gender stereotypes in some depth, including a consideration of the numerous stereotypes for both men and women; how stereotypes differ by culture; and how stereotypes impact individuals of that gender, the opposite gender, and society as a whole.

What does individualism mean in American culture, how it relates to concepts and values such as freedom, democracy, civic responsibility, community involvement. This includes the tensions between our cultural ideals and values of equality and the reality of inequality in America—poverty, racism, the heritage of slavery and relations to Native Americans, etc. You should be able to explain how/why social categories such as race, social class, and even gender, as socially constructed, not biological or inherent--how racial and class categories are socially constructed and negotiated and “man-made,” rather than biologically inherent and “God-given.” Basically: our physical and genetic traits are inherent and given, but how we and others choose to perceive, emphasize, or ignore various physical and genetic traits, how we place people into arbitrary categories based on these traits, and how we set one category as “higher” or better than another are all socially constructed and learned. We can look at inequality as giving different groups of people different access to wealth, power, and prestige, and how the same social categories that define our identity (race, ethnicity, gender, etc.) also place us somewhere in a social hierarchy. We can always “negotiate” and try to change this. How can inequality be seen on the level of individuals and images (personal attitudes of prejudice, etc.), institutions discrimination, (policies and practices of institutions that perpetuate racism or inequality), and ideology (systems of attitudes, beliefs, ideas, and symbols that rationalize and support or challenge the “rightness” of a situation of inequality).We can change individuals on the level interpersonal relationships, but if we do not change institutional policies and practices and develop an alternative ideology, we won’t change inequality. One of the very first cases that caught Freud’s attention when he was starting to develop his psychoanalytic theory was that of Anna O, a patient of fellow psychiatrist Josef Breuer. Although Freud did not directly treat her, he did thoroughly analyze her case as he was fascinated by the fact that her hysteria was “cured” by Breuer. It is her case that he believes was the beginning of the psychoanalytic approach.
Through your analysis of this case, you will not only look deeper into Freud’s psychoanalytic theory but also see how Jung’s neo-psychoanalytic theory compares and contrasts with Freud’s theory.

The Case of Anna O.
One of the first cases that inspired Freud in the development of what would eventually become the Psychoanalytic Theory was the case of Anna O. Anna O. was actually a patient of one of Freud’s colleagues Josef Breuer. Using Breuer’s case notes, Freud was able to analyze the key facts of Anna O’s case.
Anna O. first developed her symptoms while she was taking care of her very ill father with whom she was extremely close. Some of her initial symptoms were loss of appetite to the extent of not eating, weakness, anemia, and development a severe nervous cough. Eventually she developed a severe optic headache and lost the ability to move her head, which then progressed into paralysis of both arms. Her symptoms were not solely physical as she would vacillate between a normal, mental state and a manic-type state in which she would become extremely agitated. There was even a notation of a time for which she hallucinated that the ribbons in her hair were snakes.
Toward the end of her father’s life she stopped speaking her native language of German and instead only spoke in English. A little over a year after she began taking care of her father he passed away. After his passing her symptoms grew to affect her vision, a loss of ability to focus her attention, more extreme hallucinations, and a number of suicidal attempts (Hurst, 1982).
Both Freud and Jung would acknowledge that unconscious processes are at work in this woman's problems. However, they would come to different conclusions about the origin of these problems and the method by which she should be treated.

The sensationalists trusted the senses or sense experience to determine truth. While many of them also used reason to some degree, they placed a greater trust in the senses. The rationalists, while giving some credence to the senses, primarily trusted reason as the best guide to knowing truth. The romantics took a more phenomenological approach and placed greater emphasis on emotions in the process of determining how to live; they weren’t as concerned with the issue of truth.
How do these epistemologies impact ethics and morals? Particularly with the romantics, you begin to notice there is a potential to separate ethics, or what is right, from values, or the individual’s ideals. What do you think is the significance of this separation?
These three positions still do not dictate a view of human nature as fundamentally good or evil. There are variant positions within the perspectives. Discuss any implications you think exist for human nature in these perspectives.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
