Why You Must Teach Your Business Communication Course within a Mobile Context...Bovee and Thill
Mobile has become the primary communication tool for many business professionals, including a majority of executives under the age of 40. In early 2014, the landscape in which businesses operate changed forever when Internet usage on mobile devices exceeded PC usage.
Nine-two percent of executives own a smartphone they use for business. Eighty-six percent of executives use their tablet and 72 percent use their smartphone to conduct research for products or services for the business by which they’re employed.
Two-thirds of small businesses say they wouldn’t be able to survive without mobile technology. More than 50 percent of small businesses use mobile for remote work.
Small businesses are increasingly reliant on mobile apps for day-to-day operations.
Three-quarters of small businesses report they use mobile apps. The most popular app usage (in rank order) is for GPS/navigation, social media marketing, document management, location-based services, time management, travel and expense tracking, debit/credit payments in the field, and conferencing.
Whether the day-to-day focus is business management, marketing, sales, SEO (search engine optimization), social media, advertising, software development, or customer relationship management, the mobile device is increasingly becoming the dominant tool for work and communication. As a result, it should become a chapter-by-chapter topic in every business communication classroom by 2015.

(RIM) With as much as 50% of small business employees in Europe classified as mobile workers, the mobile smartphone industry is keeping pace with the growing number of time-saving features they are adding to the smartphones. This made up time increases productivity in the work place.

4. There is a wealth of applications that focus on productivity. These include stock market apps, tasks and memos as well as wireless presentation apps.
5.
6. We see here that Android (Google) devices are starting to win this war with BlackBerry coming in 2nd.
8. Just a few statistics. Nielsen report that 31% of US mobile phone owners have a smartphone as of December 2010, and expect smartphones to become the majority by the end of 2011. eMarketer predicts that smartphone ownership will reach 43% of the US mobile population by 2015. The same company expects US sales of smartphones to grow from 67 million in 2010 to 95 million in 2011, and become the highest-selling consumer electronic device category. 10. Now ofcourse business is seperate from socialising for leasure. It is found that smartphone owners can keep up with their social life easier because productivity is taken care of. However this is not always face to face but a meeting can easily be arranged via the mobile device. It creates time.
11. Smartphones in Education. Apple has a huge library of apps that make education easier. They in fact have a dedicated portal called iTunes U. This includes podcasts and practice exams. Education is now easier than ever before with mobile access to any online resource.
