Leadership 101: What Successful Leaders Do—and How They Do ItHRDQ-U
Ask any leader and they can probably name a favorite teacher they would choose to emulate. That’s because great leaders are born through experience and mentoring. But to become great, leaders need more than a positive role model. They need training. And with all of the complex leadership theories, models, and trends swirling around today, sometimes we forget to start at square one. Until now.
Join us for Leadership 101: What Successful Leaders Do—And How They Do It, the back-to-basics webinar that focuses on the what—and the how—of effective leadership. From recognizing the characteristics of effective leadership to behaviors that undermine performance and leading with impact, you’ll leave with a solid understanding of how best to develop both aspiring leaders and seasoned veterans.
Cultivating a business has always involved creativity. Seeking out new ways of working to meet shifting demand is an essential skill of today’s innovators. And approaches to leadership are no exception. For generations, the majority of organizations relied on traditional hierarchies. A chain of command in which only those at the top made decisions. Fast forward to today and many start-ups are choosing to buck this trend by incorporating distributed leadership into their business models.
As the term suggests, distributed leadership is shared management. Popular within educational institutes, this concept disperses decision-making from one individual to a collective group. New businesses aside, this naturally involves a major organizational restructure, which is a difficult request for companies with long-standing traditions. Having said that, businesses that are incorporating this methodology are experiencing numerous benefits.

Empathy in leadership : how will it serve the leaders and the team?
Much has been talked about the need for leaders to have empathy. At the same time, the conversation of how to develop empathy and on whether empathy can be learned or not has surfaced too.
Before we go into how empathy can be developed, let's take a look at how empathy helps leaders to be more effective with their team and what to be cautious on ie on how empathy can go wrong.
Yes, you read that right. It CAN go wrong, if it's not exercised with other EQ competencies and it can lead to burnout.
I believe this has been one of the major reasons why some leaders are very cautious or even reluctant about exercising empathy with their team.
Let me know what do you think.

The Yellow Brick Road of Leadership - Lessons from the Wizard of OzJonathan Stutz
This presentation examines leadership through the lens of L. Frank Baum’s ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’. The reader will learn that a leader’s success is dependent upon a belief in oneself, having a goal for a better future, wisdom, emotional intelligence, and a willingness to take action. Throughout this presentation you will learn that developing these combined capabilities is a journey, a road filled with difficulties and obstacles. Baum’s fantasy provides a platform for leaders and students of leadership to reflect and gain perspective on their own journey down the yellow brick road of leadership.
Volunteers come from the community to serve, and go back into the community as ambassadors of the library. Annette Hall, TBBS Volunteer Services Coordinator, will show how you can plan every step of their volunteer experience to be the best it can be -- from recruitment, selection, and training to supervision, evaluation, and recognition.

The Self is a complex constellation of many different voices or “selves.”
Most of us know the Gremlin/ Saboteur voice and have felt its negative impact.
But just as that voice is inherent in us, so too are a vast array of positive resources, the quieter voices of our true self that we are just not used to accessing. While it takes patience and practice to be able to hear and to heed them, the decision to live from this place of resonance, inside-out rather than outside-in, is truly a radical act.
This diagram helps you summon and externalize those positive internal resources using the construct of Inner Leader/Future Self and Crew.
The Inner Leader or Future Self, is that calm visionary inside you who wise, calm, brave, clear ... and who guides you toward the fullest expression of your core purpose. This part of you has access to all the wisdom that ever was, and knows that ultimately, everything turns out just fine.
The Crew gives you access to resources you can call on anytime. chart points you to resources within you, but you can also call on characters from books, pop culture, or nature, whatever inspires/refuels you.
Have fun identifying, recruiting, and naming your team! And as with anything else, the more you use this construct, the more alive and real it is. So, go down that river and into the woods as often as you can, knowing that with each visit, the path to the cabin, to your highest and most resonant Self, becomes more defined and therefore easier to find.
