This document discusses how 21st century leaders can use data to improve elementary mathematics education. It argues that technology and blended learning approaches that are personalized and adaptive can increase the velocity of learning for students. When students follow highly customized, individualized learning paths tailored to their needs, they can progress through mathematics content at different paces and explore possibilities through creativity and problem solving.

Millions of IndividualLearning Paths Each one tailored to a student’s unique needs The progression of two students through the DreamBox curriculum • This progression took place over 15 months. • Both girls started DreamBox in December, 2010 in their first grade classroom and are now in 2nd grade. • Both girls began the DreamBox curriculum at the start of kindergarten lessons. • The one in red is now working on our 4th grade fractions content (Ayu). • The one in purple is working on 3rd grade curriculum (Melissa).

- #21 Facebook users growing daily Average use 55 minutes per day With over 500 million users, Facebook is now used by 1 in every 13 people on earth, with over 250 million of them (over 50%) who log in every day. The average user still has about 130 friends, but that should expand in 2011.48% of 18-34 year olds check Facebook when they wake up, with 28% doing so before even getting out of bed. The 35+ demographic is growing rapidly, now with over 30% of the entire Facebook user base. The core 18-24 year old segment is now growing the fastest at 74% year on year. Almost 72% of all US internet users are on now Facebook, while 70% of the entire user base is located outside of the US.Over 700 Billion minutes a month are spent on Facebook, 20 million applications are installed per day and over 250 million people interact with Facebook from outside the official website on a monthly basis, across 2 million websites. Over 200 million people access Facebook via their mobile phone. 48% of young people said they now get their news through Facebook. Meanwhile, in just 20 minutes on Facebook over 1 million links are shared, 2 million friend requests are accepted and almost 3 million messages are sent.

- #34 Since Ayu started DreamBox on November 29, 2010, she has played for 110 hours. Ayu's last session on DreamBox was on March 22, 2012, when she played for 32 minutes. Since Melissa started DreamBox on November 29, 2010, she has played for 114 hours. Melissa's last session on DreamBox was on March 22, 2012, when she played for 53 minutes. Phlip R Smith ElementaryJenn Hill Rm 11 - 2nd and they seem to play around 20-30 minutes 4 or 5 days a week. Some days its only half or so of the class other days the whole class logs in. Both kids have played about 6,000 minutes of DreamBox (100 Hours)- They both started in Dec 2010 (within 24 hours of each other) mid-way through 1st grade content. - They both started at the beginning of K with placements turned on - Both are girls - Both are in second grade right nowOne more question: Where are the two girls working now? I think one is in 3rd grade curriculum and one is 4th grade curriculum?Did you also mention the kids play 20 minutes a day in school? 5 days a week? (Implementation?) What class are they in now? (I can check usage over time!) One has completed all our content and is practicing. So 4th grade content for her. The other is just starting fractions so she's in 3rd grade content.
