The document reports results from two experiments that examined the effect of training format (auditory vs. auditory-visual) on learning spectrally degraded voices and the transfer of voice learning to word recognition. In Experiment 1, voice identification training improved over sessions but format did not affect training time. Word recognition was not better for trained voices. Experiment 2 found auditory-visual feedback facilitated voice learning but not word recognition for trained voices. Overall, training improved voice identification but not word recognition, and auditory-visual information helped voice learning but not transfer to word tasks.
