As someone with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), I have struggled with short-term memory issues for my entire life. However, since I was diagnosed later in life, I spent the bulk of my school-age years developing strategies to deal with what I thought were typical memory issues that everyone faced. By the time I entered university I knew that unless I physically wrote out my notes with a pen on paper, I would not remember them because it was too easy for me to type notes while my mind was ‘elsewhere’ not paying attention. If I needed to remember a list of things, I needed to write it somewhere I would see it repeatedly, like the back of my hand or the leg of my jeans; a list on paper in my pocket was quickly forgotten – out of sight out of mind. The working memory model, developed by Baddeley and Hitch in 1974, focuses on the idea that working memory has a limited capacity to store information temporarily as it processes where the information is to go, such as into long-term memory to action (Baddeley, 2003). The information that is gathered falls into different subsets of the overall system, determined by the central executive: the phonological loop (spoken or written information) or visuospatial sketchpad (visual or spatial information) or the episodic buffer (a general category) (Mcleod, 2012). Issues with short-term memory loss as related to ADHD and the working memory model comes from reported deficits in the ability to control attention and an oversaturation of information input into the central executive (Ortega et al., 2020; Mcleod, 2012). This results in information input being disorganized and not always making it to the long-term memory. Meaning, my central executive may not function in the manner in which Baddeley (2003) suggests it should and it can get easily overwhelmed, resulting in the interference of informational input and encoding. Issues with short-term memory are often considered to be as a result of decay or interference, though decay is difficult to prove due to issues with testability and overall understanding of the cause (Jonides et al., 2008). It was explained to me that many people who have unknowingly existed with ADHD throughout their lives have developed both conscious and unconscious strategies to manage any cognitive processing issues they deal with. I mentioned writing things down as a conscious strategy that I have implemented over the years. Another strategy that I’ve used and continue to practice is repeating someone’s name back to them when being introduced. The act of saying their name out loud forces my attention to be focused on that singular piece of information, allowing for a better chance of it being appropriately encoded and therefore retrieved. Another option is to use a multisensory strategy when possible, allowing for auditory and visual input of the same information. Saying someone’s name out loud and reading it on a name tag for example. I’ve also asked people in the past .

With other instances, forgetting is attributable to dire and serious consequences such as the inability for an individual to recall their family relations or education background. Our human memory in not perfect, hence storing and the retrieval of information from the brain could sometimes be influenced because of biological or psychological issues. Memories are usually under the effects of how the person undertakes the processing of events through emotions, perceptions, and interpretations. Memory failures and forgetting are aspects that have become quite common with most people especially the elderly, who are often relying on various methods that are helpful in recording and remembering important information.
As indicated by the famous philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche “the advantage of a bad memory relates with the element that an individual enjoys the same good thing severally without having a recollection.” However, forgetting things is quite annoying and usually affects the person’s life, activities, and relationships. According to the research by Shiffrin (2018), memory is considerably not static and by this, how an individual remembers an event is highly dependent upon variables that are inclusive of how much sleep one has had to their emotions during the occurrence of the event (Borelli, Grennan, and Muth, 2020). Notably, memory is not always reliable because it is influenced not only by the recorded events but other factors like knowledge, interpretations, emotions, experiences, and perceptions also affect our memory status. Memories are usually not permanent as they are subject to disappear as people age or because of psychological/mental problems.
Theories of Forgetting
There are various psychology theories seeking to address and expound on the issues relating to why humans are usually forgetting information and their past memories. The existing theories are inclusive of the interference theory, the trace decay theory, and the cue-dependent forgetting. According to the research by Medic et al. (2017), the trace decay theory stipulates that all memories are subject to fade automatically with time. Memory and learning perform a complicated dance involving multiple areas of the brain. Memory and Learning can be affected by numerous events from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), disease and stress, just to name a few. Memory is implicit for learning but we have many different kinds of memory and learning. We have implicit memory, explicit memory, procedural memory, episodic memory, long-term and short-term, sensory, sematic and working memories. Each play a role in how we learn and interact with the world and view our past, present and future. In this presentation we will explore some of the interactions between memory and learning, look at a few case studies and talk about types of treatments that are available, depending on the area and extent of damage to certain parts of the brain.

Amygdala: An almond shaped mass of nuclei that is associated with emotions, aggression, and memory. The amygdala receives input about stimuli associated by learning with primary reinforcers.
Hippocampus: The hippocampus is useful in learning a certain amount of information. According to Rolls (2000), “the hippocampus does appear to be necessary to learn certain types of information, which have been characterized as declarative, or knowing that, as contrasted or procedural, or knowing how, which is pared in amnesia.”
Learning is a behavior, in which an individual acquires information. Learning is obtaining knowledge, in which the brain is able to retain and store away. In order for knowledge to be stored away, it needs memory, so, without memory, learning would not be possible. “Not only does the amygdala receive information about primary reinforcers (such as taste and touch), but it also receives inputs about stimuli (e.g. visual ones) that can be associated by learning with primary reinforcers” (Rolls, 2000). Primary reinforcers are used within operant conditioning (learning technique), which are used as a reward for a specific behavior. Primary reinfrocers do not need to be learned, meaning, they come naturally.

Recent technologies employed in the study of the brain regions regulating speech are helping scientists better understand the neural basis of human behaviors interacting with the world. For example, MRI imaging studies are revealing other areas within the brain that may also play a role in language and reading. With reference to health informatics, a systematic review of literature, (Eikey, Reddy, & Kuziemsky, 2015), methods of collaborative work in health setting include telemedicine application, EMR, HER, EPR, CPOE, mobile technology, (PDAs, pagers, mobile phones), Web 2.0 applications, internet, online health communities, picture archives, and communication system, medicine dispensing devices and barcode systems, HIT and any other specific application. The authors further presented the "collaboration space model", to help researchers study collaboration and technology in healthcare.
In my healthcare setting, we use several health informatics methods such as pagers, mobile phones, communication system, medicine dispensing devices and barcode systems, but one that has been much applauded during this COVID 19 era is Telemedicine. I work in a psych/detox hospital.
We found telemedicine very relevant based on research results indicating that people with mental health problems are twice more likely to be frequent users of hospital emergency departments (Hunt, Weber, Showstack, Colby, & Callaham, 2006). The use of the emergency department for routine clinical care poses a huge strain on the health system because of the high cost of treatment, restricting use of the emergency department for admission of patients who really require admissions. This is also because of the associated complexity and pressure to admit patients for inpatient care (Institute of Medicine (U.S.), 2007).
Recent technological advancements have led to easy access to videoconferencing utilizing personal computers or tablets. A few research work has also been carried out using telemedicine. Patients are encouraged to check their vital signs using personal devices. Also, the introduction of asynchronous store-and-forward approaches enable clinicians review their patient without direct interaction. Also, telehomecare enables clinicians monitor their patients in their own homes (Yellowlees et al., 2010). Telepsychiatry aims to improve quality of care to patients and reduce costs in three ways: it will carry out assessment at a distance, the specialist will be able to provide emergency department doctors opinion on complex c.

Recent technologies employed in the study of the brain regions regulating speech are helping scientists better understand the neural basis of human behaviors interacting with the world. For example, MRI imaging studies are revealing other areas within the brain that may also play a role in language and reading. Another example is that both Broca's and Wernicke's areas are fundamental to speech ability, but the specific mechanism of how each plays into oral language is still unclear. This is still a new area that challenges psychologists, neurologists, and speech therapists.
Humans use different parts of their brain to discriminate objects from people. In fact, we may have specialized neurons for recognizing faces. The authors further presented the "collaboration space model", to help researchers study collaboration and technology in healthcare.
In my healthcare setting, we use several health informatics methods such as pagers, mobile phones, communication system, medicine dispensing devices and barcode systems, but one that has been much applauded during this COVID 19 era is Telemedicine. I work in a psych/detox hospital.
We found telemedicine very relevant based on research results indicating that people with mental health problems are twice more likely to be frequent users of hospital emergency departments (Hunt, Weber, Showstack, Colby, & Callaham, 2006). The use of the emergency department for routine clinical care poses a huge strain on the health system because of the high cost of treatment, restricting use of the emergency department for admission of patients who really require admissions. This is also because of the associated complexity and pressure to admit patients for inpatient care (Institute of Medicine (U.S.), 2007).
Recent technological advancements have led to easy access to videoconferencing utilizing personal computers or tablets. A few research work has also been carried out using telemedicine. Patients are encouraged to check their vital signs using personal devices. Also, the introduction of asynchronous store-and-forward approaches enable clinicians review their patient without direct interaction. Also, telehomecare enables clinicians monitor their patients in their own homes (Yellowlees et al., 2010). Telepsychiatry aims to improve quality of care to patients and reduce costs in three ways: it will carry out assessment at a distance, the specialist will be able to provide emergency department doctors opinion on complex c.

The meaning of this is probably meant that Federalists were unsure of human nature and government must resist the passion of the public.
Another reason is that Anti-Federalists wanted to amend the Consitution with a Bill of Rights. the first version of the federal government was quite weak. A mojr purpos of the Constitution was to grant more power to the federal government. The anti-federalists wanted assurances that this new and more powerful government wouldn't be out of control. Quote from "A Farmer" January 11, 1788: Rouse up, my friends, a matter of infinite importance is before you on the carpet, soon to be decided in your convention: The New Constitution. Seize the happy moment. Secure to yourselves and your posterity the jewel Liberty, which has cost you so much blood and treasure, by a well regulated Bill of Rights, from the encroachments of men in power."
Federalist believe that a Bill of Rights is completely unnecessary and danger. Quote:"It has been several times truly remarked, that bills of rights are in their origin, stipulations between kings and their subjects, abridgments of prerogative in favor of privilege, reservations of rights not surrendered to the prince. Such was Magna Carta, obtained by the Barons, sword in hand, from king John ... It is evident, therefore, that according to their primitive signification, they have no application to constitutions professedly founded upon the power of the people, and executed by their immediate representatives and servants. Here, in strictness, the people surrender nothing, and as they retain everything, they have no need of particular reservations." How is having a Bill of Rights dangerous? If states and individual people have individuals right the Bill of Rights, then more people would agree, but Federalists think only more trouble will come.
Being a Federalists isn't something anyone wants to waste their time doing. If one wants a central government with no Bill of rights, fine.

- 1. As someone with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), I have struggled with short-term memory issues for my entire life. However, since I was diagnosed later in life, I spent the bulk of my school-age years developing strategies to deal with what I thought were typical memory issues that everyone faced. By the time I entered university I knew that unless I physically wrote out my notes with a pen on paper, I would not remember them because it was too easy for me to type notes while my mind was ‘elsewhere’ not paying attention. If I needed to remember a list of things, I needed to write it somewhere I would see it repeatedly, like the back of my hand or the leg of my jeans; a list on paper in my pocket was quickly forgotten – out of sight out of mind. The working memory model, developed by Baddeley and Hitch in 1974, focuses on the idea that working memory has a limited capacity to store information temporarily as it processes where the information is to go, such as into long-term memory to action (Baddeley, 2003). The information that is gathered falls into different subsets of the overall system, determined by the central executive: the phonological loop (spoken or written information) or visuospatial sketchpad (visual or spatial information) or the episodic buffer (a general category) (Mcleod, 2012). Issues with short-term memory loss as related to ADHD and the working memory model comes from reported deficits in the ability to control attention and an oversaturation of information input into the central executive (Ortega et al., 2020; Mcleod, 2012). This results in information input being disorganized and not always making it to the long-term memory. Meaning, my central executive may not function in the manner in which Baddeley (2003) suggests it should and it can get easily
- 2. overwhelmed, resulting in the interference of informational input and encoding. Issues with short-term memory are often considered to be as a result of decay or interference, though decay is difficult to prove due to issues with testability and overall understanding of the cause (Jonides et al., 2008). It was explained to me that many people who have unknowingly existed with ADHD throughout their lives have developed both conscious and unconscious strategies to manage any cognitive processing issues they deal with. I mentioned writing things down as a conscious strategy that I have implemented over the years. Another strategy that I’ve used and continue to practice is repeating someone’s name back to them when being introduced. The act of saying their name out loud forces my attention to be focused on that singular piece of information, allowing for a better chance of it being appropriately encoded and therefore retrieved. Another option is to use a multisensory strategy when possible, allowing for auditory and visual input of the same information. Saying someone’s name out loud and reading it on a name tag for example. I’ve also asked people in the past how their name was spelled, as it allows for me to visualize the name, as well as hear it.
