Movies have become the most important part of our lives. Movies are considered as a very strong medium. It has the capacity to create a great influence on the audiences’ mind. It doesn’t spell out the withdrawal syndrome its characters endure or the addiction’s all-consuming cravings. They tend to represent the society and most of the times they are successful in doing so. But the question is till what level they portray the society? What is true and what is false sometimes takes a toll on the viewers. Sometimes movies are all bout blurring the lines between the fiction and non-fiction.

3. With the recent release of the most talked and controversial
movie ‘Udta Punjab’ Hindi cinema is stepping foot into a new
era of cinema. Udta Punjab is a classic example that sparks
romance and poetry.

4. Tommy Singh played by Shahid Kapoor is a cocaine addict and is a great
musician. He is known to sell his records of his on-stage antics. Alia Bhatt
is a migrant worker from Bihar and has no name in the movie. She
unwittingly becomes a part of the deadly circle of heroin smuggling. Diljit
Dosanjh’s policeman Sartaj Singh is but a pawn in the gargantuan chess
board of smuggling and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Dr. Preet Sahni is waging
a war on the whole system through her own efforts.

5. The whole controversy of the ‘Udta Punjab’ raises the question
about blurring the line between the truth of the society and its
representation. Should we, as an audience be concerned about
what is presented to us through movies? The whole drama around
the release of the movie is not new to the Bollywood industry.
There were many movies that have been banned due to one
reason or the other. Movies like “Kya Kool Hai Hum” or “Masti”
has been release without any cut or minimum cut with an “A
certificate”. Then the question arises why such a big hype on
release of this movie?

6. Disclaimers in the movie come to us as no surprise! There are long
disclaimers on the screen before the movie starts and in-between of
the scenes. The movie aims at an honest and unflinching portrayal
of the drug menace that engulfs the state. It is very evident that for
many years people of Punjab are facing this problem. Not only have
the film characters done justice to the film but also the lingos,
dialogues and the music too is justifying the film tone. The film’s
music matches the mood and the messaging. Much of the dialogue
and songs are in Punjabi. Most of the dark themes also is wry
humour that is so typically Punjab. In the film justly critical of highs
achieved from injected dangerous drugs, it’s only fair to celebrate
the ones we reach in the grasp of new love.

7. But Udta Punjab is not only about the story of the four
characters but explains the status of youth in Punjab. A
148 minute movie portrays a harsh and haunting reality of
the youths in Punjab.
