Downer Engineering completed the design, supply, and installation of 70 km of fibre optic cable along Auckland's rail corridors for Auckland Regional Transport Networks Limited (ARTNL). The $8 million project involved installing two telecommunication ducts along the rail lines between several Auckland cities and towns using trenching, directional drilling, and rock cutting. Downer installed over 200 pits and fiber optic cables to form a network that now supports increased public rail services in Auckland through communications for safety, security, and train signaling.
