This Paper attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of Library Web Scale Discovery solutions by depicting various facets of Web Scale Discovery solutions such as its importance to Library field, their possible role as the starting point for research, content coverage, and finally analyses the competition at the discovery front by comparing the services of major players. An agent-based collection development system is proposed that uses software agents to perform tasks related to selecting, acquiring, recording, and disseminating information for collection development. The system would use various agents like a Profile Agent to analyze faculty webpages and develop research interest profiles, a Citation Agent to identify publications and topics, a Search Agent to search resources and identify relevant works, and other agents to check the catalog, monitor usage, process interlibrary loans, and handle acquisitions. The agent system could automate many routine collection development tasks currently performed by librarians and help libraries better support faculty research needs.

Digital libraries evaluation is characterised as an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary domain posing a set of challenges to the research communities that intend to utilise and assess criteria, methods and tools. The amount of scientific production, which is published on the field, hinders and disorientates the researchers who are interested in the domain. The researchers need guidance in order to exploit the considerable amount of data and the diversity of methods effectively as well as to identify new research goals and develop their plans for future works. This paper proposes a methodological pathway to investigate the core topics of the digital library evaluation domain, author communities, their relationships, as well as the researchers who significantly contribute to major topics. The proposed methodology exploits topic modelling algorithms and network analysis on a corpus consisting of the digital library evaluation papers presented in JCDL,ECDL/TDPL and ICADL conferences in the period 2001–2013.

MassCat’s move to open source software: Why?
MassCat is a resource sharing network of 93 libraries in Massachusetts that was previously using a proprietary system but decided to change to an open source system. A survey of members found dissatisfaction with the previous clunky ILL system and outdated OPAC. MassCat selected the open source Koha system to provide members with a more robust OPAC, more user capabilities, and integrated circulation, serials management, and acquisitions functions. 29 libraries have been trained on Koha so far with the remaining 64 to follow once custom development is completed.
Data-driven Applications with conStruct
Michael K. Bergman presented on the Bibliographic Knowledge Network (BKN) project. BKN aims to develop tools and services for scientific communities to select, filter and enhance bibliographic data. It uses a network of collaboration portals, gateways to external content, and dataset hubs. The core is a Drupal-based collaboration portal called a BKN node, which integrates a triplestore and search index to provide a structured dataset management environment. Increasing traceability of physical library items through Koha: the case of S...
Presentation in KohaCon2016, the major event of Koha community, on May 31, 2016. The Library & Information Center, University of Patras, Greece has developed the SELIDA framework, which integrates a set of standardized and widespread library technologies in order to increase the identification and traceability of physical items, such as books. The framework makes use of RFID tags in order to assign unique identification marks, in the form of URIs that can be globally exchanged. The framework has been implemented in the fully translated and customized Koha installation of our Library and its core services support checking in/out of books and browsing of history transactions with geospatial visualization. Its use can support transactions between various libraries or branches of the same library. The proposed presentation will describe the architecture of the framework and how it connects to Koha, as well as the challenges we faced during its development.

W3C Library Linked Data Incubator Group: Review of the Final Report

There are two supplementary reports that provide additional detail. Odam an optimized distributed association rule mining algorithm (synopsis)
This document proposes ODAM, an optimized distributed association rule mining algorithm. It aims to discover rules based on higher-order associations between items in distributed textual documents that are neither vertically nor horizontally distributed, but rather a hybrid of the two. Modern organizations have geographically distributed data stored locally at each site, making centralized data mining infeasible due to high communication costs. Distributed data mining emerged to address this challenge. ODAM reduces communication costs compared to previous distributed ARM algorithms by mining patterns across distributed databases without requiring data consolidation.
In Search Of The Lost Book - Improving Library Usability

Increasing traceability of physical library items through Koha: the case of S...
Presentation in KohaCon2016, the major event of Koha community, on May 31, 2016. The Library & Information Center, University of Patras, Greece has developed the SELIDA framework, which integrates a set of standardized and widespread library technologies in order to increase the identification and traceability of physical items, such as books. The framework makes use of RFID tags in order to assign unique identification marks, in the form of URIs that can be globally exchanged. The framework has been implemented in the fully translated and customized Koha installation of our Library and its core services support checking in/out of books and browsing of history transactions with geospatial visualization. Its use can support transactions between various libraries or branches of the same library. The proposed presentation will describe the architecture of the framework and how it connects to Koha, as well as the challenges we faced during its development.

W3C Library Linked Data Incubator Group: Review of the Final Report
This report is a snapshot describing the current state of library data management. It outlines the potential benefits of publishing library data as Linked Data and provides recommendations for library standards bodies, data and systems designers, librarians and archivists, and library leaders.
There are two supplementary reports that provide additional detail. The first is the "Use Cases" describing library applications that take advantage of the benefits of adopting Linked Data standards and principles involved in publishing things like bibliographic data, concept schemes, and authority files. The second supplementary report "Datasets, Value Vocabularies, and Metadata Element Sets" provides a list of resources available for creating library Linked Data . However, Google Scholar may update search results more quickly, cover more open access and free sources, and have better relevancy and consistent features due to its focus on article searching.
Odam an optimized distributed association rule mining algorithm (synopsis)
This document proposes ODAM, an optimized distributed association rule mining algorithm. It aims to discover rules based on higher-order associations between items in distributed textual documents that are neither vertically nor horizontally distributed, but rather a hybrid of the two. Modern organizations have geographically distributed data stored locally at each site, making centralized data mining infeasible due to high communication costs. Distributed data mining emerged to address this challenge. ODAM reduces communication costs compared to previous distributed ARM algorithms by mining patterns across distributed databases without requiring data consolidation.
In Search Of The Lost Book - Improving Library Usability

With unified indexing of full-text library content, users’ experience of search and retrieval is greatly improved.
Discovery is changing the way that library users find and access library materials, especially electronic resources. In the opening part of this presentation, I will share my experiences of using different discovery systems – Summon, Primo and Enterprise – in my current and previous roles, in term of differences, strengths and common areas among these tools. Relevant findings from the literature and latest research reports will be sketched. I will also speak of how technical services teams can support the next generation of discovery systems that will help the progress of the digital library field. The presentation will conclude with the approach of technical services towards future discovery.

- 2. Libraries have a strategic interest in the tools and technologies that facilitate the discovery of and access to the resources for the communities that they serve. These tools have seen steady advancement over recent decades, making great strides in the scope and depth of materials addressed and in providing library users ever more convenient ways to access these materials.
- 3. The progress seen in the successive generations of technology beginning from online catalogs, to metasearch tools, to the current generation of index-based discovery services represents an incredible improvement. Yet many gaps remain relative to the potential of more universal access to the universe of content of interests to libraries and their users and obstacles remain that impede progress that NISO(National Information Standards Organization) or other organization can address.

Resource Discovery -activity that involve searching for the appropriate service, node, or data type that match the requirements of applications such as file sharing, Grid applications, Cloud applications etc. The resource discovery methods can be engineered based on various network models including centralized, decentralized.

End-user interface, usually delivered via a web browser, to perform tasks such as presentation of a search box for end-user queries, an alternative query page that presents advanced query options able to target terms according to structured fields, and presentation of search results listed either in a brief form or in full-record displays.
