ARTICLE ON CHHATTISGARH
• Chhattisgarh is state in India located
in East-Central India. The state was
formed on 1st November 2000 by
partitioning ten Chhattisgarhi and six
Gond-speaking south-eastern
districts of Madhya Pradesh. It is the
ninth largest state of India. It is
bounded by the Indian states of
Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to the

north and north-east, Odisha (Orissa)
to the east, Telangana to the south and
Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to its
west. Chhattisgarh’s capital is Raipur.
Chhattisgarh had been the center of
progress and development of several
culture since the Vedic and
Mythological times. It is also one of the
fastest developing states in India.

•Chhattisgarh is known for its rich
culture and tribal living there,
natural diversity, availability of
resources, wildlife sanctuaries,
national parks, etc.
•Chhattisgarh is mainly known for
its rich culture like crispy cuisine,
lively dances, great religious and
melodious music, kind people,

friendly languages, sparkling fairs
and festivals and marvellous arts &
crafts. Its unique approach towards
dance, cuisine and music make it
different from each other.
Chhattisgarh is a home to a number
of tribes like Gonds of Bastar,
Abhuj Maria, Dhurva, Bison Horn
Maria, Bhatra, etc. The tribal dances

represent the rich culture of the
state. During the festivals or any
other celebrations, the culture of
Chhattisgarh can be reflected easily
through their dressing and wearing
accessories.
• The state is home to the
country’s widest waterfalls, caves,

lush green forests, ancient
monuments, rare wild life,
exquisitely curved temples,
Buddhist sites and hill plateaus.
Deciduous forests of the Eastern
Highlands Forests cover roughly
44% of the state. The state animal
is the van bhainsa, or wild

Asian buffalo. The state bird is
the Pahari myna, or hill myna. The
state tree is the Sal (Sarai) found in
Bastar division. The natural
environment of Koriya in
Chhattisgarh includes forests,
mountains, rivers and waterfalls.

wildlife. The Amrit Dhara
Waterfall, Koriya's main attraction,
is a natural waterfall which
originates from the Hasdeo River.
The state also has widest waterfall
of India, Chitrakote waterfall. The
state is also rich in flora and fauna.

The thick vegetation here mostly
comprises teak, sal and bamboo,
and supports diverse wildlife such
as tigers, sloth bears, jackals,
leopards, four-horned antelopes,
striped hyenas, chinkara, barking
deer, porcupine, gaur, muntjac, and
bison. The state also has endemic

species of birds like Indian grey
hornbill, Ashy prinia, Jungle owlet,
Verditer flycatcher, etc.
The river Mahanadi is the lifeline
of Chhattisgarh. Except the rivers
of Bastar, other major rivers like
the Shivnath, Arpa, Hasdo, Sondur
and Jonk become a part of the

Mahanadi River. The Mahanadi and
its tributaries hold 58.48% of the
state's water.
• The state is also rich in mineral
ores, resources. It is a source of
electricity and steel for the
country, producing 15% of the

Bhilai operated by SAIL, with a
capacity of 5.4 million tonnes per
year, is regarded as a significant
growth indicator of the state.
Today, Raipur has become the
centre of the steel sector, the
biggest market for steel in India.
Chhattisgarh is rich in minerals. It

produces 50% of the country's
total cement production. It has the
highest output of coal in the
country with second-highest
reserves. It is third in iron ore
production and first in tin
production. Limestone, Dolomite,
Bauxite are abundant. It is the only

tin-ore producing state in India.
The state also exports various
things, minerals, etc. The major
exports products include steel,
handicrafts, handlooms, blended
yarn, food and agri-products, iron,
aluminium, cement, minerals, and
engineering products.

and 11 wildlife sanctuaries. The
national parks are Indravati
National Park, Kanger Valley
National Park, Sanjay National

National Park is one of India's
densest national parks, and is
known for its biodiversity,

152 species of birds 32 species of
mammals, 11 species of reptiles, 3
species of amphibian and many

Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and
Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary. This
wildlife sanctuaries have lush green
and dense forests which are very
rich in flora and fauna. Some of the
