3. • Artist: James Turrell
• Turell’s photograph really captures the natural light from the
sun setting in front of the volcanic crater and really brings out
the contrasting between the dark colors and the bright reds.
• Turell really appreciates nature and spirituality and most of his
work uses nature and biology as a foundation for a lot of his
work.
• Although sometimes minimal, Turrell has very deep meanings
and messages behind his work and requires a lot of deep
thinking and analysis to really understand and appreciate his
work.

5. I really enjoyed looking through Turrell’s gallery of photos. His style is very unique and
very abstract, especially his installation art. But, there was one photo that he took that
really stuck out to me. But in this photo he uses the sunset to separate the dark colors
from the bright colors; the land from the sky. In my photo I tried to use this same
technique of using natural light to separate the darker colors from the light colors and
really bring out the bright oranges and yellows from the sunset.

7. • Artist: Katharina Grosse
• Katharina Grosse is a painter that uses acrylic colors to create large scale paintings
with multi colored pallets. She uses an array of colors to create a dynamic and fluid
perception for her paintings and sometimes includes everyday objects to create
psychedelic vistas for the viewer.

9. After viewing Grosses gallery of her colorful paintings, I stumbled upon her piece,
“Untitled” which was done on a billboard . The texture of the colors that she used look
very fluffy and organic and I really admired that. They look like giant brush strokes and
I really admire how she uses many colors to create a fluid look to her pieces. I decided
to implement a similar technique in a painting of a galaxy that I did. I also used acrylic
paints and used got inspired by her techniques and applied it to my own art.

11. Artist: Pierre Huyghe
Huyghe is a French artist who captivates the moods
of happiness, leisure, and adventure in his art. He
typically implements a lot of fantasy based
characters into his work. Most of the time
installation art, he likes to address complex social
topics, such as yearning for utopia. In the piece that I
chose however he drew an anime character and
gave her a sad expression which is not very common
for this style of artwork. Most of the time, these
characters are drawn very happy. Huyghe later used
this piece as a foundation for one of his most famous
installation pieces, “Anlee”

13. After observing Huyghe’ work, I really enjoyed how he implemented anime fantasy
characters into a video. He used CGI to make a ghostlike figure of the anime girl in the
original drawing. For my piece, I drew an anime character breaking free from the binds
of technology and modernization. I did this to show that no matter what humanity will
always win, no matter how technologically advanced our society become.s
