3. Introduction
• An array is a collection of items of same data type stored at
contiguous memory locations.
• This makes it easier to calculate the position of each
element by simply adding an offset to a base value, i.e., the
memory location of the first element of the array (generally
denoted by the name of the array). The base value is index
0 and the difference between the two indexes is the offset.
6. One – D Array
single dimensional arrays are used to store list of
values of same datatype. In other words, single
dimensional arrays are used to store a row of
values. In single dimensional array, data is stored
in linear form. Single dimensional arrays are also
called as one-dimensional arrays, Linear
Arrays or simply 1-D Arrays.
Declaration of Single Dimensional Array
int rollNumbers [60] ;
8. Multi – D Array
The most common type of multi-dimensional
array that is used in the C language is a 2-D
array. However, the number of dimensions
can be more than 2 depending upon the
compiler of the user’s system. These arrays
consist of elements that are array themselves.
Declaration of Two Dimensional
Array
int matrix_A [2][3] ;
