different close up shots of Ariana herself establishing her
as the main focus. The camera lens blurring out the
scenery behind also helps to build Ariana as the main focal
point. In relation to Goodwin's theory shown in Ariana
Grande's Video “Into you” through the use of close ups
Ariana's star image is promoted. The use of pink and
purple tints and filters reflect the stars feminity and also
the concept of a dreamlike environment.

2. The song lyrics “But close ain”t close enough, til we cross the
line” is presented through these two different shots. The first is a
Extreme close up which juxtaposes the lyrics sung “ close aint
close enough” as the couple are extremely close together. The
closeness entices the viewer involving them into their
relationship. Arianas facial code of her eyes close reflect how
she is deeply in love taking in the romantic moment.
Ariana is seen on the back of a motorbike with her lover, they
seem to be riding off into the sunset following their love affair,
their movements are reflective of the lines “til we cross the line”
Ariana is implicating that they will never be able to reach the
closeness of their relationship until they “ cross the line”
suggesting escaping the limelight which is later on showcased in
the video. Arianas action code of throwing her arms in the air
are symbolic of being free, lose , escapism etc.. She seems to be
enjoying the thrill of her secret.

3. The use of Low key lighting in this shot helps portray the
“secret” relationship between Ariana and her lover in the
video. A sense of darkness adds mystery to the atmosphere
and their actions, it also portrays the concept of the song
which is revolved around a secret love affair. Their faces are
hidden from viewers enhancing the idea of a behind closed
doors relationship. The lyrics quote “ got everyone watching
us, so baby, lets keep it secret” The couple appear to be
having ‘secret” time together.
Here Ariana and her lover are seen gazing into each others
eyes, the setting of a derelict field, the motorbike and a
sunset are symbolic of their escape and freedom. Using a mid
shot highlights the open space , the shot shows how much
the couple are infatuated by each other, the absence of
anything else is merely irrelevant. There is less distraction
allowing all focus on them both. They have travelled to a
place where nobody is around, they are both equally sharing
the spotlight, however the only audience is of their
relationship is the viewer of the music video.

4. An extreme close up is used here, the illustrations
represent the lyrics said at this point of the video.

Arianas face which enhances the focus point directly to
her chest, this can be seen as extremely appealing to

The effect of using a two shot featuring both the Ariana
and her dream lover staring into each others eyes
highlights the theme of infatuation and love. The low key
tinted lighting consisting of the colours red and pink ,
these colours especially associated with love, lust and
desire create a warm loving environment for the lovers in
the video.

5. The use of high key lighting on Ariana and the guy featured in
the video emphasises their star persona. The lyrics “So come
light me up” are symbolically presented through the flashing
lights of photographers on Ariana “lighting her up” so that
everyone can see her. This scene juxtaposes with scenes earlier
in the video where she instructed “ baby don’t let them see it”,
Ariana is no longer in a secret relationship she is seen here in a
very open one perhaps constructed for the limelight. This
scenario allows the audience to understand her intentions of
desiring a secret relationship due to her constant appearances
in this constructed fake spotlight relationship.
Towards the end of the video Ariana is seen alone and
vulnerable as she is not in the presence of her “scandalous”
lover. The use of a mid shot emphasizes Ariana's loneliness as
she is the only person sitting down she appears much smaller
and separated from everyone else standing behind. Ariana is
expressing a subtle sad facial code, yet she is also wearing red
lipstick, the colour red connoting love, lust and sex. Despite
being isolated Arianas image to attract the male audience is still
present, perhaps it is to attract her lover who she desires
attention from in the shot as his presence is missing.
