Coach Ken Carter s Coach Carter
Coach Carter, an inspiring movie directed by Thomas Carter that told the story of a real life high
school basketball coach, was filled with unique and intriguing characters that underwent a
heartwarming growth throughout the movie. Coach Ken Carter, the main character, was the one
that helped the team evolve by being demanding, fun and, most importantly, by showing a strong
sense of leadership. It was through Ken Carters actions and words that we were able to see that he
was made to coach the players and how much the team meant to him.
Firstly, Coach Carter was capable of being exceedingly demanding, whether it was with the boys of
the basketball team or with his own son when they were at home. It was easy to understand how
much he pushed te basketball players when he said: Average is juste not good enough. Period!
(??:??), which meant that he wanted the team to be the best. It was also evident that he asked
for a lot when he demanded that his players maintained a grade point average of 2.3 or greater,
instead of the 2.1 they were normally required to have. He also asked the team to wear ties when
there were games, made them do a lot of suicides and push ups, and asked them to call each others
sir . Although the Coach s requests may have been annoying to the players, it was obvious that, in
the long run, Ken really only wanted the best for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Lyle, one of the team member, said he wasn t a sir, Coach Carter responded:
Oh, well, are you a madam? (10:15), which made the boys laugh. In addition, he used girls name
from his past, like his sister Diane or his childhood sweetheart Delilah, to teach some game strategy.
The Coach s humor motivated the team and made the practices more entertaining. With his retort
and his funny side, Ken Carter really knew how to make basketball be a little more

The Work of Representation
The Work of Representation Stuart Hall Summarize by Jesse Tseng 1 Representation, meaning and
language At first we have to know thatпјљ Representation is an essential part of the process by
which meaning is produced and exchanged between members of a culture. It does involve the use
of language, of signs and images which stand for or represent things. And surly it is not a simple or
straightforward process. How this article exploring the concept of representation connect meaning
and language to cultureпјџ We will be drawing a distinction between three different account or
theoriesпјљthe reflective, the intentional and the constructionist approaches to representation. Most
of this text will be exploring the constructionist approach with two... Show more content on

Words mean what the author intends they should mean. This is the intentional approach. The third
approach recognizes this public, social character of language. Things don t mean: we construct
meaning, using representational systems. Hence it is called the constructionist approach. 1.5 The
language of traffic lights The simplest example of this point, which is critical for an understanding
of how languages function as representational systems, is the famous traffic lights example.
According to the constructionist approach, colors and the language of traffic lights work as a
signifying or representational system. In the language of traffic lights, it is the sequence and
position of the colors, as well as the colors themselves, which enable them to carry meaning and
thus function as signs. It is the code that fixes the meaning, not color itself. This also has wider
implications for the theory of representation and meaning in language. It means that signs
themselves cannot fix meaning. Instead, meaning depends on the relation between a sign and a
concept which is fixed by a code. Meaning the constructionist would say, is relational. 2. Saussure s
legacy In the important move, Saussure analysed the sign into two further elements. There was, he
argued, the form, and there was the idea or concept in your head with which the form was
associated. Saussure called the first element, the signifier, and the

This paper examines the pricing behavior of securities of firms which repurchase their own shares.
The results are consistent with a market in which investors price securities such that expected
arbitrage profits are precluded. The results are also consistent with the hypothesis that firms offer

The direction of this signal is ambiguous.
It may be that the company perceives no profitable use for internally generated funds because of a
lack of growth opportunities.
On the other hand, especially when a company offers to buy its shares at a substantial premium
above the market price, management may believe that their company is undervalued.
The tender offer then represents an attempt to pass on the value of this inside information to the
current shareholders.

The Sherlock Holmes Stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Essay
The Sherlock Holmes Stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh on 22 May 1859, he died in 1930. He printed his
first Sherlock Holmes book, A Study in Scarlet in 1887 in Beeton s Christmas Annual. Sherlock
Holmes soon became very popular amongst the people of their day, People immediately fell in love
with Sherlock Holmes for several reasons. One of the main reasons was because he was a
detective and detectives were new at the time, the police were very incompetent at doing their
jobs. The public were very insecure, they knew the police were absolutely useless. The public felt
very vulnerable, as if they were open to attack all the time. Sherlock Holmes, when ... Show more

At the time, Jack the ripper was also a problem for people, he made life for women very insecure
and unsafe seeing as they were his main targets. When Sherlock spoke to women he was more of
a gentleman, in many stories women came to Sherlock seeking help. Women didn t have much
power during the times of Victorian England. Back then the old Ball n Chain really was the Ball
n Chain for women, once they were married they were basically considered, in my opinion, baby
making machines or trophies, something you had around the house that s sole purpose was to look
happy or pretty. Men didn t consider that their wives had feelings or desires, that there was
something behind the smiles, women, like men actually wanted to be something and not just watch
other people get there. That s one of the reasons why women came to visit Sherlock Holmes to ask
for help, he was a gentleman.
Victorian England had a very interesting setting to it, dark streets, opium dens, markets etc. The
opium dens being one of the places in Victorian England that was considered somewhere were
everyone went to smoke their troubles away, opium dens, evolved into regular bars, where people
go to drink their troubles of the day away. Opium dens were generally dark settings where

Shin Splints Research Paper
What is the injury?
Shin splints is a term for pain in the front or inner part of the lower leg. Shin splints are common
in athletes. Shin splints are formed when constant stress is placed on the bones, muscles, and joints
of the lower leg. This muscle injury is a type of cumulative stress disorder.
What are the Causes and Risk Factors?
Shin splints are caused by stress that is repetitive on the shinbone and the connective tissues that
attach your muscles to the bone. Running down hill, old shoes, and exercising on hard or inclined
surfaces are all factors that can cause shin splints. Too much pressure on your shins can be bad, and
can be long term if not treated correctly.
What are symptoms and Signs? When shin splints occur, pain is felt in the shins. Tenderness and
soreness of the shins are also signs of shin splints. Swelling of the lower leg is possible. The pain
may occur while exercising, and stop when you quit, but the pain can continue and could form into
a stress reaction or stress fracture if not treated correctly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first thing to do if you think you may have shin splints is to rest. Take some time off
exercising. Ice your shins 3 5 times a day. Over the counter pain relievers might help to ease the
pain as well. If rest, ice, or pain relievers do not work, then consulting a doctor may be necessary to
see if the injury has formed into something worse. A doctor may help ease the pain quicker if you
are an athlete and need to recover

Essay On Sitna In Ramayana
Sita and Laksmana are disagreeing on their next course of action in an ambiguous situation. This
passage is the rising action of the Ramayana. The heightened emotions, volleyed insults and
Laksmana s decision to leave Sita despite an ominous portent build suspense that culminates in Sita
s abduction. We can observe Sita s effective persuasion of Laksmana and consider the success of
women who use emotional blackmail, threats and insinuations of character flaws to manipulate men
into action, in contrast to other women who use logic and reason in their persuasion. Additionally,
we can assess the fairness of Laksmana s uncomplimentary comments about the female gender that
he made in his anger.

Rebuffed by Rama, Surpanakha threw herself in front of [Khara], as a bolt of lightning would fall
from the sky (Sattar, p. 245) to seek his help to avenge her, thus catalysing conflict between Rama
and Khara. Similarly, Kaikeyi flung herself on the ground (Sattar, p. 116) to invoke Dasaratha s
sympathy. Thereafter, she forces Dasaratha to commit the unrighteous act of banishing Rama from
his rightful kingdom, threatening to kill [herself] right here in front of [him] (Sattar, p. 120) if he
refuses. Both women are dishonest and unrighteous in their use of piteous stances and empty
threats to manipulate the men to do their bidding. Surpanakha and Kaikeyi are also sharp tongued.
Kaikeyi spoke harshly to [Dasaratha], choosing her words with care (Sattar, p. 121), showing a
deliberate intent to insult him into placing Bharata on the throne. Surpanakha insults Ravana for
being greedy, lustful and utterly dependent on others , unaware that his people have been
massacred in Janasthana (Sattar, p. 260) and thus questions his values and ability to rule the
kingdom. She also tempts Ravana with the opportunity to have [his] way with [Sita] (Sattar, p. 261)
should he kill Rama and Laksmana, further illustrating her unrighteousness and immorality. Overall,
Surpanakha s aim to rouse conflict between Rama and Ravana proves that women are divisive and
often catalyse disagreements between

Shi No Numa Research Paper
Treyarch zombies first appeared in Call of Duty: World at War and quickly became very popular
when DLC#3 came out with the zombies map that brought dogs into play, Shi No Numa. In this
map, Treyarch added wonder weapons, dogs, and the four main characters, Tank Dempsey,
Nikolia Belsinki, Takeo Masaki and Doctor Richtofen, that impressed thousands. With the release
of Nacht der Untoten, the first ever zombies map, came the first ever strategies for a four player
or one player experience . Most notably, with Der Riese DLC#4 came the first part of the Call of
Duty Zombies storyline. The Treyarch zombies franchise has one of the largest gaming
communities because of the exclusive gameplay mechanics, the genius strategies , and the rich
storyline that all began, at Der Riese, featuring the giant .
Zombies Verruct may have brought the perks, but Shi No Numa brought the WonderWaffe DG 2,
and dogs. The innovation that Shi No Numa brought was truly something else as the four main
characters were introduced. One thing that really Shi No Numa stood out for was the Wonder
Waffe, basically a Germen super weapon that shoots lightning. It could take out 10 15 zombies
in one bolt, but has an ammo count of 14. The dogs are also very popular, so popular in fact that
they are still in the latest zombies, Black Ops II. Every 5 6 round, the light will dim and the dogs
will come attack you. They are pretty tough puppies, but do drop a max ammo when you complete
the round. Also the perks, Jugger Nog(more health), Double Tap... Show more content on

At the age of fifteen, my mother had just finished cooking dinner when I noticed her slurred
speech and incoherent sentences. Flustered by the sequence of events, I dialed 911 for help. On
the way to the hospital, I recall one of the EMS personnel shakily exclaim: her blood glucose is
899, she needs insulin ASAP. Having no understanding of what any of this meant my anxiety
multiplied and I was eager to understand why these abnormalities were occurring. At the hospital,
the doctor addressed my mother with a sympathetic and yet assuring tone and stated: Latrice, you
have type 2 diabetes. He went on to explain how her body was not utilizing insulin and as a result
had high levels of blood glucose. Although the prescribed medication resulted in dramatic
improvements in my mother s condition, the confusion remained. I had no understanding of her
condition or how medication alone helped to assuage her symptoms. The unanswered questions
learned from this shocking experience precipitated a drive to learn more about the human bodyand
health prevention. To learn more about the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I
began to shadow Dr. Murthy, a forensic pathologist at the Stark County Coroners office. Dr. Murthy
placed high value in effective communication to ensure that the patient s family was completely
informed of the diagnosis of their loved ones. During the autopsies, he was thorough, detailed and

The Between Edouard Vuillard s Interior With A Screen (...
The art world has been host to a vast menagerie of talent, intellect, and creativity for about as
long as human culture has existed. It has grown, developed, and changed just as humanity has.
Naturally, with such an impressively expansive history, various avenues of art are visited time
and time again by new artists. Artists seek not only to bring their own personal flavor and
meaning to timeless concepts, but to find new ways to approach them. While not every single
creator and craftsman can make such a great impact on art or the world, their efforts have given
birth to some truly magnificent and unique works. In an effort to create a more meaningful
understanding, as well a deeper appreciation, of the nuances, techniques, and design choices
employed in these attempts, a comparison will be made between Edouard Vuillard s Interior
With a Screen (1909 1910) and Henri Matisse s Blue Nude (Souvenir of Biskra) (1907). In this
essay, each artist s approach to the subject of the female nude will be closely analyzed,
compared, and contrasted, as will their styles of painting, handling of visual elements, and their
use of the principles of design. An interpretation of each work and what the artist intended when
creating it will also be provided. The analysis of these paintings will begin with Vuillard s oil
painting Interior With a Screen. This piece depicts a female nude placed in the interior a large and
furnished room; the woman appears to be slightly hunched over

Robert Kintner replaced Weaver as NBC president in 1955 his strategies were intended to move
NBC out of its growth phase and into a new phase of maturation, stabilization and profitability.
His four fold strategy included a switch from live programs to telefilm (which made syndication
and exportation possible), meat and potatoes scheduling ( nothing extravagant, just regular
series meant to promote habitual viewing), licensing of outside suppliers to decrease costs and
their inherent risks, and using news as a bridge to primetime in order to promote audience flow.
Based on each president s very different programming strategies, it is easy to decipher which
programs belong in which programming strategy category. For example, Today (1952 ), fits
under Weaver s strategy because it was part of his in house THT programming strategy which
employed daily format, along with Home and The Tonight Show, so advertisers could buy set
segments at lower costs, as well as encouraged viewing in every major block of the day and
appealing to a wide range of audiences and encourage stations with empty morning or night

Odyssey
After the ancient Greeks adopted the Phoenician alphabet around 800 BCE, they began to write
down the stories from and about their past, known as their archaiologia (Sayre, 115). For
generations these stories were pasted down by word of mouth, the two most important being the
Iliad and the Odyssey, created by an author history knows as Homer.
Widely considered the first and greatest epic poet by the ancient Greeks, Homer is credited as the
author of the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. He is believed to be a bard, a singer of songs
about the deeds of heroes and the ways of the gods. His stories were part of a long standing oral
tradition that dated back to the time of the Trojan War, which is believed to have taken place around
1200 BCE (Sayre, 115).
Homer s poems have also been a source of controversy among scholars. Until the discovery of
Troy by archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, his poems were believed to be fiction. Further
evidence was found in a Mycenaean vase known as the Warrior Vase, which bared... Show more

sojourn on a floating island and the underworld. During his twenty year absence from his wife,
Penelope, she was sought after my many suitors, however she remained faithful and gained her own

of the Odyssey include fate and free will, pride, justice and pity. The Iliad and the Odyssey laid
out the individual values and responsibilities that all Greeks believed to be their personal
obligations if they were to ever fully realize their goals (Sayre, 119). While the true nature of these
epic poems may remain in question, there important will forever remain a staple in the ancient

Hierarchies In The Bluest Eye

acceptance. Finally reaching her breaking point after the various rejections from strangers and
her own family, Pecola desperately resorts to visiting a misanthrope and pedophile named Elihue
Micah Whitcomb, otherwise known as Soaphead Church. When he sees Pecola, he says, Here
was an ugly little girl asking for beauty [...] A little black girl who wanted to rise up out of the pit
of her blackness and see the world with blue eyes (174), Morrison conveys that Pecola can no
longer internalize whiteness by drinking milk or eating Mary Jane s to momentarily gain status in
the hierarchies, she must externalize whiteness by changing the colorof her eyes. Soaphead s use of

As earlier talked about with Disney movies the more current ones released, Brave and Frozen,
focus more on the heroine saving herself rather than waiting to be saved by someone else. This
shift towards more self sufficient and strong women characters is doing wonders as the Disney

movies before these two came out and how the new releases are a welcome change to the formula.
The main focus of the previous movies has not been on how they are growing as people, more
about how they could marry the prince charming at the end of the movie. Not only Disney movies

The Concentration Of Behavior Analysis
Unit 9 Assignment
Shalee Martin

Introduction For the Unit 9 Assignment I will be creating a fictitious case (client) within the
concentration of Behavior Analysis. I will include client demographics, reasons for seeking out
service, intervention or treatment goals for the client, a theory that can relate to the client s case,
methods of interventions, any cultural issues, and any use of contemporary technology that will be
used. I decided to revolve my case study around social anxiety (or a social phobia). It will focus on
how a person s thoughts and beliefs can intensify an anxiety/phobia. If a person truly believes that
he/she will not do well in a certain situation, those thoughts and feelings can turn that into a reality.
It is up to the professionals to change these beliefs and negative emotions.

Solving The Highest Level Of An Interest Approach
1. Creating a felt need is a saying used to explain the highest level of an interest approach. This
term is best explained by a desire to know more. The felt need interest approach forces students
to take action, contains a provocative situation, and challenges students to a higher level than the
lower level interest approaches. A felt need is successfully created when the students feel
personally connected to the lesson to follow (Moore, 2015). 2. In a Principles of AFNR course I
plan to use an interest approach that relates to problem solving and critical thinking. I will play the
song, That s the Night the Lights Went out in Georgia. The students will be asked to listen to the
song with the instructions of trying to determine the murderer, narrator, and victim. At the end we
will compare answers and discuss the importance of paying attention, listening to context clues,
and thinking deeper before making certain decisions. I think this will be an effective interest

A Successful Sports League Director
There are a number of career opportunities within the world of sports and it is my aspiration to
change the world one person at a time. I will continue to assess not only the needs in the
organization I am a part of but the current benefits, and recent issues that I have seen especially in
the perspective as a league director. In this paper, I will continue to examine my strategic plan to
not only become a successful Sports LeagueDirector but to also share some improvements I
proposed to my director and staff and the outcome thereafter. I will also discuss a few ethical
issues and dilemmas in having a sports league organization that I have already noticed and might
face myself in the future. My job was to officiate various sports like softball, and basketball
within my organization while assisting with a few extra tasks and being in an advisory role for
the league director to note of any areas internally that needed development. There are many
factors that contribute to not only an organizations success but an athlete s as well, such as
location of training, physical and mental health, but no variable matters as much as the interaction
that athlete is exposed to, whether it is with a referee, the facility itself or the its other
participants. Regardless of whichever sport, I will one day have to oversee all sports with unbiase
and still manage not to reach career plateau. I will enforce new and existing policies in the league
that I am seeking to run. There must be a

Genesis And Job Essay
In the Bible, the books of Genesis and Job, each give a description of the creation of heaven and
earth. They depict different views and styles but share the same idea that God is the creator.
Genesis 1 2 is the most popular and well known story that says God created everything in six days
and the seventh day was rest. In the book of Job 38 40, the concept of creation was told to Job in
order to make him understand why he was suffering and to perceive the ways of God.
The first chapter in Genesis defines the beginning as being majestic and analytical. It demonstrates
a limited description of how life will continue to be maintained in everyday growth and how the
earth will continue to bring food for all living things (Gen. 1:29 30). Genesis also suggest that the
Creator was a one time occurance at the beginning of time. It explains what God created each day
and in chapter 2 clarifies the creation of man and woman. On the other hand, Job provides imagery
and metaphors to help the human mind to wrap around the concept of how the universe was formed.
For example, God speaks to Job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good.

The Fellowship of the Ring Response Essay
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Reader Response
The novel The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien is set in a fanciful world filled with
strange creatures and magical happenings, but not everything is so unlike our world. Many of
the characters change over the course of the story, just as we do over the course of our lives.
Frodo, the main character and the carrier of the magical ring, is part of the mythical race of
Hobbits, yet he is remarkably human. He has the same values as we do, and his small size hides
his big heart. His journey throughout the novel changes his life and his outlook on life. In the
beginning he is content with his quiet life, and his voyage leaves him lusting after adventure. Of all

However the women wear their hair down and the men wear fancy embroidered vests, which
suggests much later in time. I like novels with no set time, because they let me imagine what I want.
The Fellowship of the Ring has a lot of background information and long words. Tolkien does this
in all of his writing. I disliked all the landscape in the beginning, but I grew to be thankful for the
extra description as the novel went on. Tolkien s world is complicated, with many mountain ranges,
plains, deserts, jungles, and forests, and the rich description helps to keep them straight and also
helps the reader imagine the world of Middle Earth. Generally fantasy books that are written for
children have less information and more action, but not this one. This book is written with many
long and occasionally some made up words. The names, for example the name Galadriel, are
made of odd letters and have strange pronunciations, yet all fit the characters to a tee. The Elvish
language made by the author flows off the tongue of the reader, and is a pleasure to say aloud.
The book may seem dense to a reader who prefers fast paced action, yet the description and the rich
language simply enhance the plotline.
Tolkien wrote his novels as bedtime stories for his young children. When they were first published,
they were sold solely as children s novels. Over the years, however, The Fellowship of the Ring has
become a classic read by all ages. How does

Loan For A New Loan
Due to the recession, many households became financially burdened. As the economy suffered
many people faced job loss or at the very least a decrease in income, therefore, leading to many
foreclosures. Because of the impact a foreclosure has on one s credit score, these individuals are
not able to qualify for a new loan on another house. Fortunately there are other options in buying
a house besides qualifying for a loan such as owner finance and rent to own. Owner finance
allows those who cannot qualify for a loan the ability to have the owner of the property finance
them. This option replaces the bank with the owner of the property. It allows one to have the
ability of owning a home who has a lower credit score or is still going through bankruptcy. The
owner who is financing the home can be more flexible than a bank in the conditions of the loan
such as a down payment, interest rates, and mortgagepayments. The owner can allow someone to
pay the down payment in instalments instead of all at once which is ideal for those who can
qualify for a loan but do not enough moneysaved. Most banks require at least a three percent down
payment which is thousands of dollars and the more expensive a house is the more money the
down payment is. However, the owner can agree to instalments once a week or once a month which
gives the purchaser of the home the ability to purchase the home without saving years in advance.
Also, the owner may have a lower interest rate on the loan than the

The Violent Myth Of Appalachia Essay
Brooks 3
THE VIOILENT MYTH OF APPALACHIA
ENGL 330
Appalachian Literature
By
Julie A. Brooks
November 17, 2016
the violent myth of appalachia
Appalachia may be the most misconceived region in the United States. To many Americans,
Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it
still is perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck,
moonshiner, and feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate,
and in need of a savior to pull them out of the darkness into the light. This research paper will
seek to challenge the myth of a violent Appalachia by describing documented proof that violence
in Appalachia is not, as most thought, a product of its geographical location, or because its people
are isolated. Violence in Appalachia was, just as in other areas of America, a result of tensions and
frustration that was deep seeded in the fabric of all American society.
To understand the concepts of violence in Appalachia, it is imperative to explain how Appalachia
is defined. The Appalachian Region, as defined in ARC s authorizing legislation, is a 205,000
square mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to
northern Mississippi. It includes all West Virginia and parts of 12 other states: Alabama, Georgia,
Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,

Groundwater Groundwater Pollution
Groundwater Pollution with Chlorinated Ethenes Groundwater is water that is located underground
between soil particles and in holes, or pores, in the bedrock ( Groundwater, 2011). Because earth
has 80 times more groundwater than all the freshwater stored in lakes and streams combined (
Groundwater, 2011), its health has a large influence on the environment. Groundwater also has a
large impact on humans; groundwater accounts for about 20% of water used in the US and almost
half of water used in households, including drinking water ( Groundwater, 2011).
Chlorinated ethenes, also referred to as organochlorides, CVOCs, and chloroethenes, are common
groundwater contaminants throughout the world (Zinder Gossett, 1995; Dugat Bony, et al., 2012;
Rouzeau Szynalski, Maillard, Holliger, 2010; Ni et al., Rijnaarts, 2014). They are often found in
various environmental media near industrial facilities (DobrzyВґnska, PoВґsniak, SzewczyВґnska,
Buszewski, 2010). Chloroethenes tend to be persistent in the contaminated groundwater; they
remain present indefinitely and are usually not degraded through natural means by any indigenous
population (Zaan, et al., 2009; Tas, 2010).
Chloroethenes tetrachloroethene (PCE) and trichloroethene (TCE) are the most common type of
groundwater pollutant in urban and industrial areas and pose a threat to human health (Lee Lee,
2016). Both PCE and TCE concentrations are regulated by the 1986 amendments to the Safe

estimated HIV incidence rate for African Americans and Latinos to be twice that of whites (4 per
10,000 versus 2 per 10,000 a year). This could be attributed to the more frequent drug injections
used by African Americans which was also reported in the results. Results from Scheer et al. found
similar results with African Americans experiencing an incidence rate twice that of whites.
However, Latino s had an HIV incidence similar to whites. While both articles reported important

The use of computerized statistical analysis has developed into a vital tool in the world of sports.
Using data analytics to project player abilities, indicative of their potential future performance, is
now an important part of team decision making. This analysis can provide information that makes

Optimal Lineups Win Championships

Diverse Use of Data
Another reason why analytical tools are so vital to a team s success is how this raw data that is

Game strategies are developed using the mass amount of historical data from previous contests.

impede upon the patients rights even if we may feel like it is in their best interests. As seasons
change so does people. We in the senior care industry see change often; As patients age and their
conditions worsen. Seeing so many patients go through their final stage of life we may become
insensitive to the patient s feelings. We must try to remain mindful of the sensitivity of their

compassion and patience are the best ways to build caregiver patient trust. We have realized that,
that trust must be present for a patient to commit fully. Senior Care businesses play a vital role in

Prosthetic Limb Research Paper
Andrew Lustig
Professor Mallard
ECE 101
24 October 2012
Can Anybody Lend A Hand? Prosthetic limbs all started with a very simple problem. Do you
just give up hope when you lose an arm or a leg, or is there some other way to make the best of a
situation? Hope was not given up by us persistent human beings and that is how artificial limbs
were thought of. Instead trying to get around, we thought of artificial legs to help those who have
lost them. Instead of only having one arm, we thought of artificial arms to be able to have two
again. Prosthesis not only brought hope to those who were seriously injured and lost their limbs,
but it helped these people bring their lives back to as normal as it could be. Of course prosthesis

So for many years people were content with this simple type of prosthetic limb and it wasn t for
about 500 years until it began to progress into something better. The next wave of prosthesis came
from Ambroise Pare, a Frenchman born in 1510. He was a surgeon for the French Army and was
prominently known for his treatment to gunshot wounds. He also made great progress in artificial
limbs.
His Le Petit Lorrain , a mechanical hand operated by catches and springs was worn by a French
Army captain in battle. He also devised an above knee prosthesis consisting of a kneeling peg
and a prosthetic foot. It had a fixed equinus position, a locking knee and a suspension harness,
features that are still in use today (1117). This hand was the starting point for the advanced
prostheses in existence today as well as the leg he developed. It was the first successful leg to have
the locking knee, suspension harness and the equinus position and it set the bar for other prosthetics
to come. Also Pare was the first to make a prosthesis with joints; The leg he designed for amputation
through the thigh is the first known to employ articulated joints (Wilson Jr. 2). The next wave of
progression with artificial limbs came from the Civil War, and with anesthetics present, the
surgeries were improved tremendously. Also the United States government paid for prosthesis for
war veterans so they became more common. There was

Wings Macklemore Analysis
Reading Response 5 Title of text: Wings Text type: Song Author: Macklemore The song Wings
by Macklemore is about how people identify through the means of consumerism. It also
discusses the fleeting happiness that is intrinsically linked to the almighty power of the purchase.
The song is based on shoes, but it Macklemore aims to paint a broader picture of being a
consumer by using his own experiences of retail infused desire. In the music wings by
Macklemore, he preaches against consumerism in American culture. He uses the example of

They feel that the brand is the only way they can identify themselves. With this song I think
Macklemore is trying say that we need to dissect our attachment to brands and logos and the
happiness that is associated with the purchasing of these expensive brands. With this song I
think he is trying to take away the strong connection between bands and being cool . The section
of lyrics in the song; my friend Carlos brother got murdered for his fours, whoa Macklemore uses
this metaphor to show how Carlos brother got totally ripped apart by his peers because his
basketball shoes weren t cool or the right brand. We are so stuck in the world of consumerism
and the need to buy things to be able to relate with others. I can relate to this because on a daily
basis I see people get judged by what they wear and what the own (material goods) rather than
them as a person. When Macklemore wrote this song he hoped to spread awareness of this
problem so that it could be stopped. I also agree with Macklemore that this needs to be stopped
and that by spreading awareness of this issue it could happen. I believe that Macklemore is very
smart by using the fame he has gained in a positive way by helping to spread awareness. I think

Female Substance Abuse Counseling At The Hendry County Jail
A large number of incarcerated women report high rates of abuse, including physical, sexual, or
emotional abuse (Wolff, Frueh, Shi, Schumann, 2012). This writer recently started to conduct
individual substance abuse counseling to women incarcerated at the Hendry County Jail. During
the time of speaking to these women, a common factor has arisen, that is the fact that most of these
women have been involved in some sort of domestic violence. Although there are women s jail
groups available throughout the country, there are not enough of these groups that focus on
battered women. This writer proposes to incorporate a battered women s in jail group that will
focus on helping those women who are incarcerated and who have been involved in domestic
violencethroughout their lifetime.
Proposal
Purpose and eligibility of group:
The goals of the battered women s in jail group were sampled from The National Clearinghouse for
the Defense of Battered Women and would include educating women about the dynamics of
domestic violence, supporting domestic violence survivors healing from the effects of trauma,
supporting survivors of abuse in developing strategies and identifying resources to help prevent
them from experiencing abuse again in the future, helping survivors plan and prepare for being
released, including developing comprehensive strategies for enhancing their safety while in the
community (Bible, 2011).

The Silver Swan
In the poem by Orlando Gibons, The Silver Swan, the tempo is very slow and some words are
dragged out and made longer. Lyrically, the poem is rather sad and gloomy. Speaking about a
swan that ends up dying, a gentle and elegant creature that is easily compared to humans. The
analogy between humans and swans can be seen as considerably strong. Those who perceive
themselves to be upper class. Before the Swan dies, it sings: Farewell, all joys; Oh death, come
close mine eyes; more geese than swans now live, more fools than wise. It seems like the swan
is saddened by how things have happened. The geese and fools that are mentioned are the reason
why her perfect life must come to an end. The harmonies on the word death in the fifth line

Independence Day Speech
Filipinos are worth dying for. this is the famous line of the late senator Noynoy Aquino. Maybe
our fellow Filipino who fought for the freedom of the Filipinos from the invaders of our country
will also agree with what Noynoy Aquino has said. An Independence Day is an annual celebration
commemorating the anniversary of a nation s assumption of independent statehood, usually after
ceasing to be a colony or part of another state, more rarely after the end of a military occupation.
Most countries honor their respective independence day as a national holiday and some countries or
nations independence date honors are contested. Independence Day is the day to commemorate all

Juvenile Delinquency In The US
Introduction
It is believed that children are the products of their environment. With their brains often compared
to sponges, children tend to mimic the language and the actions of those around them, and absorb
those things into their memory. (Briggs, Grella, Allen Burton, Yarmuth, Taylor, 2012) There are
many studies on the causes of juvenile delinquency, but there is much debate as to who and what
is considered the primary factors of influence. This topic is important because juvenile delinquency
continues to be a huge problem in the U.S; in 2012 alone, there was approximately 1,319,700
juvenile arrests (Puzzenchera, 2014). The primary group in this research are those adolescents who
live inner cities and reside in low income based neighborhoods. ... Show more content on

The inner city neighborhood itself is primarily the reason as to why both delinquency and
dropping out occurs consecutively. According to the current study done by Seijeoung, Maaza,
Zwanziger, and Henry (2014), children (unlike their high income counterparts) living low
income based neighbors are more inclined to have a bad academic performance in school, may
act on impulse and exhibit negative behavioral problems. Lower levels of school performance
could be due to environmental factors such as home and the neighborhood as an added stress
especially for impoverished neighborhoods (Seijeoung et al, 2014). Lower grades then gives youth
a reason to drop out and give up. It is almost as though one thing enables another. In order to
understand how outside factors such as the low income neighborhood can lead to delinquency and
school delinquency, one needs to know the people, and activities that are involved with the

Homeland Security Agencies
The first essay question in the final assignment asks students to discuss the capabilities and
limitations of intelligence in supporting homeland security efforts. Intelligence matters have greatly
improved on this front compared to the way things used to be prior to the September 11th terror
attacks, but there are areas that still need to be addressed. The Department of Homeland Security
has also helped get information to the field by creating fusion cells, the (JCAT), and encouraging
the use of intelligence based policing. Intelligence sharing was one of the biggest obstacles the

Congress, in an attempt to address the shortfalls in our counterterrorism system, drafted the USA
PATRIOT Act. The law did close many policy gaps, but it also unintentionally infringed upon the
civil liberties of the very citizens it was designed to protect. The most contentious parts of the act
were the changes in search warrant procedures, unlimited access to records, and wiretap
procedures. The act allowed law enforcement and intelligence personnel to request sneak and peek
warrants, meaning that they were allowed to enter into a suspect s home without informing him/her
that they were being investigated. Intelligence personnel say this is needed to avoid alerting a
terrorist cell s members of an investigation, but critics claim that this process could also be used
against non terrorism suspects. The USA Freedom Act did not remove this controversial provision

The Game Of The Computer Game Essay
The computer game I will be analyzing is a free to play, 2D, one of the most popular fantasy
massively multiplayer online role playing game called Maplestory. The platform is a 2D
scrolling layout game where the player executes and control action mainly through the keyboard
and mouse to click on such as NPC and other players. It is developed by Wizet, a South Korean
Company and has multiple publishers for each country such as Nexon as the big main company.
The game consists of the spectrum of both paidia and ludus concepts as players are free to
improvise their characters and objectives, however within the limits of the game. The elements I
will be focusing on are the goals; objectives of the game, societies and cultures formed through
social bonding and fellowship, economies shaped through in game currency and real cash, and
the history as they all shape the game plays differently in determining the goals of the game.
Maplestory begins with mostly training; combatting at monsters requiring you to invest a lot of
time grinding it out to level up as you have class or job advancements and learn new skills. One
of the means in which one can meet specific ends is reaching to the max level 250. This game is
challenging in the aspect of leveling up at higher levels, which keeps the player engaged and
active, also to take note is when you die in the game you lose experience setting you back having
to regain it again. The game consists of long, difficult quests, huge maps for

integrating the different cultures. It will come as no surprise the communication style at each of
the organizations need to be clearly identified. The two groups coming together could have very
different styles of communicating to not only staff but customers as well. One organization may
use electronic communicationmeans as the main way they communicate within the organization.
Maybe most of the communication is done via email instead of direct conversation. Where another
company may prefer having direct communication face to face or via the telephone. As you can see,
this could create a significant challenge for both organizations because as they merge they will
become frustrated or could even misinterpret an email whereas the staff that is meeting face to face
may feel neglected or ignored because they are not having direct interactions. Identifying the
different types of communications and establishing a standard format that meets the needs of the
employees without comprising the effectiveness of the message must be one of the first steps when
integrating multiple cultures. The second fundamental challenge is conflict resolution within
organizations. Just as each entity has its own way of communicating so are their approaches to
conflict resolution. For example, one group may work in environment where conflicts are dealt
with in a timely matter by addressing the issue with the particular party where in another group; the

The Poetry Of Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath is often described as a feminist poet who wrote about the difficulties women faced
before women s right were a mainstream idea. From reading her poetry, it is quite obvious that
Plath s feminism is extremely important to her, but she also wrote about a lot of day to day
experiences and made them significant through her use of literary devices such as metaphors and
symbols. Plath may also be best known for her autobiographical poetrywritten in a confessional
style that appeared during the 1950s. She is considered a very important poet of the post World
War II era. She became widely known following her suicide in 1963 (Bawer). Through Sylvia Plath

Although once Plath had gotten older she moved to England, certainly her time in Winthrop
affected her life and poetry. Her father, Otto Plath, was a German professor of Biology, an
entomologist, and also authored a book about bees; which would later become the subject of
many of Plath s later poems. Her mother, Aurelia Plath was pursuing a career in teaching when
she met Sylvia s father. At the age of eight, Sylvia Plath published her first poem, her father
would die in Winthrop, that same year. This would be the start of her lifelong career as a poet.
Plath lived and wrote in the 1950s through the 1960s in both America and England (Bawer). As a
modern period poet and feminist, growing up during WWII, some of Plath s work was directly
related to the issues that were developing in society at the time. After WWII, societies were often
characterized by strict gender norms. Women were expected to remain safely in their homes, with
being a wife and a mother as their ultimate joy and goal. Art and expression became away from
women to escape the everyday pressures of society.
The poem The Applicant gives a glimpse of how Plath personally felt about women s rights and
also touched on male dominance in her marriage. Through the poem, Plath shows the struggles of
young women who are taught by society to pursue marriage and feel their worth only comes from
their physical beauty. The poem begins

Blood Disorders
Blood is one of the most essential elements within the body. Blood is made up of plasma, red
blood cells, and platelets. Blood is vital to the body functioning correctly, and it is important to
understand that there are many types of blood disorders that can cause people to get sick. While
there are many different types of blood disorders out there, this paper is going to cover three
which are, anemia, sickle cell, and thrombocytopenia. Also, a review of plasma, red blood cells,

He may have the sickle cell trait.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetically transmitted disorder marked by episodes of painful crisis,
severe hemolytic anemia, and increased susceptibility to infections. This disorder usually affects
African American (Zelman, Tompary, Raymond, Holdaway, amp; Mulvihill, 2010) Since this
disorder is inherited and affects African American this puts Davon at a higher risk. Sickle cell
anemia can be diagnosed by having a genetic testing and blood test. Some symptoms of this
disorder are pain crisis, fatigue, splenic sequestration, bacterial infections, shortness of breath, and
eye damages. Some treatments for sickle cell anemia are supportive therapy during the crisis,
blood transfusions, and prevention of sickle cell crisis. Since this is an inherited disorder, there is
no prevention. This blood disorder is usually diagnosed in childhood and persists throughout a
person s life ( Mayo Clinic , 2015).
The last scenario and blood disorder is Spencer, who over the past several weeks is having more
bruises, or ecchymosis, all over his body. After coughing this morning, Spencer noticed tiny red
marks all around his eyes. Spencer is showing signs of thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is a
condition of the blood in which the blood doesn t clot properly because there are not enough
platelets. This condition can be caused by many different things such as decreased platelet

Noah Reflection
Like the Bible, the movie starts off at the very beginning. Eventually, Noah tells his children the
story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and
fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the
second day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and
Lemech, Tubal Cain and the good men, the evil men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is
accurate to what the Biblesays in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and
constructed towns and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah s wife was named Naamah and
the film made it seem as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising
their children and about the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to
as Noah s wife and all we know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that
things such as her unfruitfulness and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the
movie. We are aware that she had kids, but the twin girls are not stated.
Na el the female that Noah makes Ham depart is not in the Bible. As I stated previously, the Bible
says that Ham s spouse was on the ark. Furthermore, in the film Noah finds out about the flood
because of two somewhat complicating predictive thoughts, both of which find him immersed in
water. In the text, its more direct, and God simply tells him what s occurring.

The next revolution in car production took place not in the United States but in Japan. A change in
management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered
the development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three
car companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously п¬Ѓnd
methods to improve the efficiency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase
quality, and reduce car assembly time. In lean manufacturing, workers work on a moving
production line, but they are organized into small teams, each of which is responsible for a
particular phase of car assembly, such as installing the car s transmission or electrical wiring
system. Each team member is expected to learn all the tasks of all members of his or her team,
and each work group is charged with the responsibility not only to assemble cars but also to
continuously п¬Ѓnd ways to increase quality and reduce costs. By 1970, Japanese managers had
applied the new lean production system so efficiently that they were producing higher quality
cars at lower prices than their US counterparts, and by 1980 Japanese companies were dominating
the global car market. To compete with the Japanese, managers at the Big Three car makers visited
Japan to learn lean production methods. In recent years, Chrysler Canada has been the North
American model for speed in automobile production. Chrysler s Windsor, Ontario

The Darkling Thrush
The Darkling Thrush Thomas Hardy [1840 1928]
Relevant Background
The poet Thomas Hardy was born near Dorchester in England.
He is also famous for writing novels.
Hardy gained a love of music from his father. Music is a prominent feature of The Darkling Thrush .
Hardy gained his interest in literature from his mother.
At the age of 22 Hardy moved to London and started to write poems. These early poems praised
country life. Yet Hardy didn t publish his poems until he was 58. He was 60 when he wrote this
poem.
Hardy wrote over 900 poems in his lifetime.
Hardy s poems are straight to the point and sometimes gloomy in outlook. In this poem he finds a
source of hope when a thrush suddenly starts to sing.
Hardy s most common theme is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the last stanza, Hardy claims the surrounding dark land provides little reason for this outburst of
joyful singing.
It reminds him of a carol. The song begins to sweeten his gloomy mood.
Hardy suddenly realises the song of the thrush in the falling darkness represents hope.
The poet is in a pleasantly sad mood as he leans alone on the gate watching the century fade into
darkness. But he clings on to the sad mood. He is addicted to it. The hopeful song of the bird
adds a new mood. Hardy becomes aware for the first time that evening of a new hope of things to
come.
He realises that there is a reason to hope, without knowing what that reason is. It is clear that the
thrush alone senses this hope and expresses it.
This is probably nature s way of reminding him that spring always follows winter. Or it may be a
spiritual message from nature. It is certainly uplifting.
Themes
Time
Hardy sets the poem at sunset on the last day of the nineteenth century. He compares the sun to a
weakening eye and this shows Hardy s regret at the fact that the day, year and century are ending
at once. Hardy feels like it may be the end of the world. He shows his sorrow at the ending of the
century by comparing the outline or silhouette of the land to a corpse, with the sky as the roof of
a tomb. The darkness and the lifeless appearance of nature depress Hardy. He seems to feel that
everything comes to an end: end of day, end of year, end of century and end of life. Time

conditions are harsh, male and female ground squirrels still undergo reproductionand produce

than females and remain sequestered in their hibernacula to undergo spermatogenesis while they

Mobility Impairment
Significance and Background Mobility impairment has a significant impact on the health of
elderly population. Between 2008 and 2012 more than ten million adults aged 65 and older
reported to have difficulties in walking or climbing stairs1. According to statistical forecasts, older
adults will make 20% of the U.S. population by 20302. Another population affected by movement
disorders is patients with pathological gait. Parkinson s, cerebral palsy, sclerosis and stroke are
among many neurological disorders that result in walking abnormalities. Parkinson s disease

Factor analysis has been used in previous research to extract muscle synergies and the
relationship between muscle synergies and the speed of walking has been extensively
investigated24 30. It has been shown that muscle synergies used by CNS in control of gait in
healthy adults is similar when walking with different speeds or under different body mass.
Analysis of synergies has also been applied to pathological gait and post stroke patients have
shown fewer synergies compared to healthy subjects31. It is proposed that a few modules (up to
5) can explain muscle activations during walking in healthy subjects. The underlying assumption
here is that modules reduce complexity of control for CNS and the application of synergies solves
the problem of redundancy in the nervous system32, 33. It has been argued however in some other
studies that the dimensionality of cortical activity is much higher than muscle activity and a
system that can generate motor commands in a such high dimensional space is unlikely to get
perplexed by the abundance of degrees of freedom at limb level34, 35. This means that the need to
reduce number of degrees of freedom in control of gait is not justified. Another criticism to the
application of muscle synergies is that the synergies might emerge as a result of the constraints of
the task under study and not as a neural control

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of African American Students...
Stereotypes can be defined as schemas applied to a group of people sharing common physical,
biological or racial characteristics. Focusing on education, African American students had
consistently been negatively stereotyped about their intellectual abilities. Research indicates that
racial stereotypes negatively affect African American students academic performance. This
correlation, though, is clearest among salient African American students, implying that
psychological factors may result from these discriminations.
African American children demonstrate early awareness of ethnic stereotypes and can identify some
stereotypes about their group due to highly salient physical characteristics that may have forced
them to face stereotypes at an early age. Shelvin, Rivadeneyra Zimmerman (2014) conducted an
experiment on churches, after school and cultural enrichment programs with students aged between
10 to 12 years. One hundred and eighty six African American students from various social class
levels took two tasks; the Stereotype Awareness task where they wrote all the stereotypes they know
about their race, referring to the definition and example for stereotypes that were given to them on
the top part of the answering paper and the Multidimensional Inventory of Black Identity Teen
(MIBI) test was introduced where students defined their group identity, beliefs of others about
them, and importance of their identity for self concept. Students results were mainly around seven

  • 2. Coach Ken Carter s Coach Carter Coach Carter, an inspiring movie directed by Thomas Carter that told the story of a real life high school basketball coach, was filled with unique and intriguing characters that underwent a heartwarming growth throughout the movie. Coach Ken Carter, the main character, was the one that helped the team evolve by being demanding, fun and, most importantly, by showing a strong sense of leadership. It was through Ken Carters actions and words that we were able to see that he was made to coach the players and how much the team meant to him. Firstly, Coach Carter was capable of being exceedingly demanding, whether it was with the boys of the basketball team or with his own son when they were at home. It was easy to understand how much he pushed te basketball players when he said: Average is juste not good enough. Period! (??:??), which meant that he wanted the team to be the best. It was also evident that he asked for a lot when he demanded that his players maintained a grade point average of 2.3 or greater, instead of the 2.1 they were normally required to have. He also asked the team to wear ties when there were games, made them do a lot of suicides and push ups, and asked them to call each others sir . Although the Coach s requests may have been annoying to the players, it was obvious that, in the long run, Ken really only wanted the best for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, when Lyle, one of the team member, said he wasn t a sir, Coach Carter responded: Oh, well, are you a madam? (10:15), which made the boys laugh. In addition, he used girls name from his past, like his sister Diane or his childhood sweetheart Delilah, to teach some game strategy. The Coach s humor motivated the team and made the practices more entertaining. With his retort and his funny side, Ken Carter really knew how to make basketball be a little more ... • 3. The Work of Representation The Work of Representation Stuart Hall Summarize by Jesse Tseng 1 Representation, meaning and language At first we have to know thatпјљ Representation is an essential part of the process by which meaning is produced and exchanged between members of a culture. It does involve the use of language, of signs and images which stand for or represent things. And surly it is not a simple or straightforward process. How this article exploring the concept of representation connect meaning and language to cultureпјџ We will be drawing a distinction between three different account or theoriesпјљthe reflective, the intentional and the constructionist approaches to representation. Most of this text will be exploring the constructionist approach with two... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Words mean what the author intends they should mean. This is the intentional approach. The third approach recognizes this public, social character of language. Things don t mean: we construct meaning, using representational systems. Hence it is called the constructionist approach. 1.5 The language of traffic lights The simplest example of this point, which is critical for an understanding of how languages function as representational systems, is the famous traffic lights example. According to the constructionist approach, colors and the language of traffic lights work as a signifying or representational system. In the language of traffic lights, it is the sequence and position of the colors, as well as the colors themselves, which enable them to carry meaning and thus function as signs. It is the code that fixes the meaning, not color itself. This also has wider implications for the theory of representation and meaning in language. It means that signs themselves cannot fix meaning. Instead, meaning depends on the relation between a sign and a concept which is fixed by a code. Meaning the constructionist would say, is relational. 2. Saussure s legacy In the important move, Saussure analysed the sign into two further elements. There was, he argued, the form, and there was the idea or concept in your head with which the form was associated. Saussure called the first element, the signifier, and the ... He printed his first Sherlock Holmes book, A Study in Scarlet in 1887 in Beeton s Christmas Annual. Sherlock Holmes soon became very popular amongst the people of their day, People immediately fell in love with Sherlock Holmes for several reasons. One of the main reasons was because he was a detective and detectives were new at the time, the police were very incompetent at doing their jobs. When Sherlock spoke to women he was more of a gentleman, in many stories women came to Sherlock seeking help. Women didn t have much power during the times of Victorian England. Back then the old Ball n Chain really was the Ball n Chain for women, once they were married they were basically considered, in my opinion, baby making machines or trophies, something you had around the house that s sole purpose was to look happy or pretty. Men didn t consider that their wives had feelings or desires, that there was something behind the smiles, women, like men actually wanted to be something and not just watch other people get there. That s one of the reasons why women came to visit Sherlock Holmes to ask for help, he was a gentleman. Victorian England had a very interesting setting to it, dark streets, opium dens, markets etc. The opium dens being one of the places in Victorian England that was considered somewhere were everyone went to smoke their troubles away, opium dens, evolved into regular bars, where people go to drink their troubles of the day away. • 10. Essay On Sitna In Ramayana Sita and Laksmana are disagreeing on their next course of action in an ambiguous situation. This passage is the rising action of the Ramayana. The heightened emotions, volleyed insults and Laksmana s decision to leave Sita despite an ominous portent build suspense that culminates in Sita s abduction. We can observe Sita s effective persuasion of Laksmana and consider the success of women who use emotional blackmail, threats and insinuations of character flaws to manipulate men into action, in contrast to other women who use logic and reason in their persuasion. Additionally, we can assess the fairness of Laksmana s uncomplimentary comments about the female gender that he made in his anger. Given his awareness of women s propensities to be ... Rebuffed by Rama, Surpanakha threw herself in front of [Khara], as a bolt of lightning would fall from the sky (Sattar, p. 245) to seek his help to avenge her, thus catalysing conflict between Rama and Khara. Similarly, Kaikeyi flung herself on the ground (Sattar, p. 116) to invoke Dasaratha s sympathy. Thereafter, she forces Dasaratha to commit the unrighteous act of banishing Rama from his rightful kingdom, threatening to kill [herself] right here in front of [him] (Sattar, p. 120) if he refuses. Both women are dishonest and unrighteous in their use of piteous stances and empty threats to manipulate the men to do their bidding. Surpanakha and Kaikeyi are also sharp tongued. Kaikeyi spoke harshly to [Dasaratha], choosing her words with care (Sattar, p. 121), showing a deliberate intent to insult him into placing Bharata on the throne. Surpanakha insults Ravana for being greedy, lustful and utterly dependent on others , unaware that his people have been massacred in Janasthana (Sattar, p. 260) and thus questions his values and ability to rule the kingdom. She also tempts Ravana with the opportunity to have [his] way with [Sita] (Sattar, p. 261) should he kill Rama and Laksmana, further illustrating her unrighteousness and immorality. • 11. Shi No Numa Research Paper Treyarch zombies first appeared in Call of Duty: World at War and quickly became very popular when DLC#3 came out with the zombies map that brought dogs into play, Shi No Numa. In this map, Treyarch added wonder weapons, dogs, and the four main characters, Tank Dempsey, Nikolia Belsinki, Takeo Masaki and Doctor Richtofen, that impressed thousands. Zombies Verruct may have brought the perks, but Shi No Numa brought the WonderWaffe DG 2, and dogs. The innovation that Shi No Numa brought was truly something else as the four main characters were introduced. One thing that really Shi No Numa stood out for was the Wonder Waffe, basically a Germen super weapon that shoots lightning. It could take out 10 15 zombies in one bolt, but has an ammo count of 14. • 12. Health Reflection Paper At the age of fifteen, my mother had just finished cooking dinner when I noticed her slurred speech and incoherent sentences. Flustered by the sequence of events, I dialed 911 for help. On the way to the hospital, I recall one of the EMS personnel shakily exclaim: her blood glucose is 899, she needs insulin ASAP. Having no understanding of what any of this meant my anxiety multiplied and I was eager to understand why these abnormalities were occurring. At the hospital, the doctor addressed my mother with a sympathetic and yet assuring tone and stated: Latrice, you have type 2 diabetes. He went on to explain how her body was not utilizing insulin and as a result had high levels of blood glucose. Although the prescribed medication resulted in dramatic improvements in my mother s condition, the confusion remained. I had no understanding of her condition or how medication alone helped to assuage her symptoms. The unanswered questions learned from this shocking experience precipitated a drive to learn more about the human bodyand health prevention. To learn more about the human body and the devastating effects of disease, I began to shadow Dr. Murthy, a forensic pathologist at the Stark County Coroners office. Dr. Murthy placed high value in effective communication to ensure that the patient s family was completely informed of the diagnosis of their loved ones. It has grown, developed, and changed just as humanity has. Naturally, with such an impressively expansive history, various avenues of art are visited time and time again by new artists. Artists seek not only to bring their own personal flavor and meaning to timeless concepts, but to find new ways to approach them. While not every single creator and craftsman can make such a great impact on art or the world, their efforts have given birth to some truly magnificent and unique works. In an effort to create a more meaningful understanding, as well a deeper appreciation, of the nuances, techniques, and design choices employed in these attempts, a comparison will be made between Edouard Vuillard s Interior With a Screen (1909 1910) and Henri Matisse s Blue Nude (Souvenir of Biskra) (1907). In this essay, each artist s approach to the subject of the female nude will be closely analyzed, compared, and contrasted, as will their styles of painting, handling of visual elements, and their use of the principles of design. An interpretation of each work and what the artist intended when creating it will also be provided. The analysis of these paintings will begin with Vuillard s oil painting Interior With a Screen. This piece depicts a female nude placed in the interior a large and furnished room; the woman appears to be slightly hunched over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Based on each president s very different programming strategies, it is easy to decipher which programs belong in which programming strategy category. For example, Today (1952 ), fits under Weaver s strategy because it was part of his in house THT programming strategy which employed daily format, along with Home and The Tonight Show, so advertisers could buy set segments at lower costs, as well as encouraged viewing in every major block of the day and appealing to a wide range of audiences and encourage stations with empty morning or night schedule to affiliate with NBC. • 15. Odyssey After the ancient Greeks adopted the Phoenician alphabet around 800 BCE, they began to write down the stories from and about their past, known as their archaiologia (Sayre, 115). For generations these stories were pasted down by word of mouth, the two most important being the Iliad and the Odyssey, created by an author history knows as Homer. Widely considered the first and greatest epic poet by the ancient Greeks, Homer is credited as the author of the epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey. He is believed to be a bard, a singer of songs about the deeds of heroes and the ways of the gods. His stories were part of a long standing oral tradition that dated back to the time of the Trojan War, which is believed to have taken place around 1200 BCE (Sayre, 115). • 21. Solving The Highest Level Of An Interest Approach 1. Creating a felt need is a saying used to explain the highest level of an interest approach. This term is best explained by a desire to know more. The felt need interest approach forces students to take action, contains a provocative situation, and challenges students to a higher level than the lower level interest approaches. A felt need is successfully created when the students feel personally connected to the lesson to follow (Moore, 2015). 2. In a Principles of AFNR course I plan to use an interest approach that relates to problem solving and critical thinking. I will play the song, That s the Night the Lights Went out in Georgia. The students will be asked to listen to the song with the instructions of trying to determine the murderer, narrator, and victim. At the end we will compare answers and discuss the importance of paying attention, listening to context clues, and thinking deeper before making certain decisions. I think this will be an effective interest approach because it puts the students into a provocative situation and forces them to make a decision (Moore, 2015). Because most students relate well to music, they will feel a personal connection that will lead them to being interested in the lesson. The second interest approach I plan to use relates the food topic in Principles of AFNR. I will have the students list what they had for breakfast, lunch, dinner. They will then take each food item and write down where they think it came from. I will then ask ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They depict different views and styles but share the same idea that God is the creator. Genesis 1 2 is the most popular and well known story that says God created everything in six days and the seventh day was rest. In the book of Job 38 40, the concept of creation was told to Job in order to make him understand why he was suffering and to perceive the ways of God. The first chapter in Genesis defines the beginning as being majestic and analytical. It demonstrates a limited description of how life will continue to be maintained in everyday growth and how the earth will continue to bring food for all living things (Gen. 1:29 30). Genesis also suggest that the Creator was a one time occurance at the beginning of time. It explains what God created each day and in chapter 2 clarifies the creation of man and woman. The Fellowship of the Ring has a lot of background information and long words. Tolkien does this in all of his writing. I disliked all the landscape in the beginning, but I grew to be thankful for the extra description as the novel went on. Tolkien s world is complicated, with many mountain ranges, plains, deserts, jungles, and forests, and the rich description helps to keep them straight and also helps the reader imagine the world of Middle Earth. Generally fantasy books that are written for children have less information and more action, but not this one. This book is written with many long and occasionally some made up words. The names, for example the name Galadriel, are made of odd letters and have strange pronunciations, yet all fit the characters to a tee. The Elvish language made by the author flows off the tongue of the reader, and is a pleasure to say aloud. The book may seem dense to a reader who prefers fast paced action, yet the description and the rich language simply enhance the plotline. As the economy suffered many people faced job loss or at the very least a decrease in income, therefore, leading to many foreclosures. Because of the impact a foreclosure has on one s credit score, these individuals are not able to qualify for a new loan on another house. Fortunately there are other options in buying a house besides qualifying for a loan such as owner finance and rent to own. Owner finance allows those who cannot qualify for a loan the ability to have the owner of the property finance them. This option replaces the bank with the owner of the property. It allows one to have the ability of owning a home who has a lower credit score or is still going through bankruptcy. The owner who is financing the home can be more flexible than a bank in the conditions of the loan such as a down payment, interest rates, and mortgagepayments. The owner can allow someone to pay the down payment in instalments instead of all at once which is ideal for those who can qualify for a loan but do not enough moneysaved. Most banks require at least a three percent down payment which is thousands of dollars and the more expensive a house is the more money the down payment is. Brooks November 17, 2016 the violent myth of appalachia Appalachia may be the most misconceived region in the United States. To many Americans, Appalachia has been thought of as a poverty stricken, backwards, violent region, and to some it still is perceived as such. Often it has been labeled with titles such as hillbilly, redneck, moonshiner, and feudists. Appalachia?s residents are seen as lazy, non trusting, drunk, illiterate, and in need of a savior to pull them out of the darkness into the light. This research paper will seek to challenge the myth of a violent Appalachia by describing documented proof that violence in Appalachia is not, as most thought, a product of its geographical location, or because its people are isolated. Violence in Appalachia was, just as in other areas of America, a result of tensions and frustration that was deep seeded in the fabric of all American society. To understand the concepts of violence in Appalachia, it is imperative to explain how Appalachia is defined. The Appalachian Region, as defined in ARC s authorizing legislation, is a 205,000 square mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains from southern New York to northern Mississippi. Groundwater Groundwater Pollution Groundwater Pollution with Chlorinated Ethenes Groundwater is water that is located underground between soil particles and in holes, or pores, in the bedrock ( Groundwater, 2011). Because earth has 80 times more groundwater than all the freshwater stored in lakes and streams combined ( Groundwater, 2011), its health has a large influence on the environment. Groundwater also has a large impact on humans; groundwater accounts for about 20% of water used in the US and almost half of water used in households, including drinking water ( Groundwater, 2011). Chlorinated ethenes, also referred to as organochlorides, CVOCs, and chloroethenes, are common groundwater contaminants throughout the world (Zinder Gossett, 1995; Dugat Bony, et al., 2012; Rouzeau Szynalski, Maillard, Holliger, 2010; Ni et al., Rijnaarts, 2014). They are often found in various environmental media near industrial facilities (DobrzyВґnska, PoВґsniak, SzewczyВґnska, Buszewski, 2010). Folklore has it, that if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then the spring season will arrive early, sometime before the vernal equinox; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its den, and winter weather will persist for six more weeks. If we analyze the tale, the ground hog is going through a period of changing seasons. He is aware of the change and is prepared to face it on the day. The message is an important one for... • 34. Prosthetic Limb Research Paper Andrew Lustig Professor Mallard ECE 101 24 October 2012 Can Anybody Lend A Hand? Prosthetic limbs all started with a very simple problem. Do you just give up hope when you lose an arm or a leg, or is there some other way to make the best of a situation? Hope was not given up by us persistent human beings and that is how artificial limbs were thought of. Instead trying to get around, we thought of artificial legs to help those who have lost them. Instead of only having one arm, we thought of artificial arms to be able to have two again. Prosthesis not only brought hope to those who were seriously injured and lost their limbs, but it helped these people bring their lives back to as normal as it could be. He also made great progress in artificial limbs. His Le Petit Lorrain , a mechanical hand operated by catches and springs was worn by a French Army captain in battle. He also devised an above knee prosthesis consisting of a kneeling peg and a prosthetic foot. It had a fixed equinus position, a locking knee and a suspension harness, features that are still in use today (1117). This hand was the starting point for the advanced prostheses in existence today as well as the leg he developed. It was the first successful leg to have the locking knee, suspension harness and the equinus position and it set the bar for other prosthetics to come. Also Pare was the first to make a prosthesis with joints; The leg he designed for amputation through the thigh is the first known to employ articulated joints (Wilson Jr. 2). The next wave of progression with artificial limbs came from the Civil War, and with anesthetics present, the surgeries were improved tremendously. Wings Macklemore Analysis Reading Response 5 Title of text: Wings Text type: Song Author: Macklemore The song Wings by Macklemore is about how people identify through the means of consumerism. It also discusses the fleeting happiness that is intrinsically linked to the almighty power of the purchase. The song is based on shoes, but it Macklemore aims to paint a broader picture of being a consumer by using his own experiences of retail infused desire. In the music wings by Macklemore, he preaches against consumerism in American culture. He uses the example of expensive Nike branded shoes to show the effect consumerism has on citizens. The section of lyrics in the song; my friend Carlos brother got murdered for his fours, whoa Macklemore uses this metaphor to show how Carlos brother got totally ripped apart by his peers because his basketball shoes weren t cool or the right brand. We are so stuck in the world of consumerism and the need to buy things to be able to relate with others. Those who perceive themselves to be upper class. Before the Swan dies, it sings: Farewell, all joys; Oh death, come close mine eyes; more geese than swans now live, more fools than wise. It seems like the swan is saddened by how things have happened. The geese and fools that are mentioned are the reason why her perfect life must come to an end. The harmonies on the word death in the fifth line becomes minor up until the word come and resolves on the words close mine eyes . With their brains often compared to sponges, children tend to mimic the language and the actions of those around them, and absorb those things into their memory. (Briggs, Grella, Allen Burton, Yarmuth, Taylor, 2012) There are many studies on the causes of juvenile delinquency, but there is much debate as to who and what is considered the primary factors of influence. This topic is important because juvenile delinquency continues to be a huge problem in the U.S; in 2012 alone, there was approximately 1,319,700 juvenile arrests (Puzzenchera, 2014). Eventually, Noah tells his children the story of the construction of earth which is accurate to Genesis, though he mixes the second and fourth days. The Bible says that the sun and the moon was formed on the fourth day not the second day. When it refers to recent state of the land, the film sets up two factions: Noah and Lemech, Tubal Cain and the good men, the evil men. The evil are offspring of Cain, which is accurate to what the Biblesays in Chapter 3. According to that chapter, Cain moved east and constructed towns and eventually he had kids. In the film, Noah s wife was named Naamah and the film made it seem as if she was an equivalent to Noah. She discusses with him about raising their children and about the ark. In the Bible, like most females in the story, she is mentioned to as Noah s wife and all we know is that she had boys and that she was on the ark. It seems that things such as her unfruitfulness and then her curing at the hands of Methuselah, was added to the movie. We are aware that she had kids, but the twin girls are not stated. A change in management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered the development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three car companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously п¬Ѓnd methods to improve the efп¬Ѓciency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase quality, and reduce car assembly time. It reminds him of a carol. The song begins to sweeten his gloomy mood. Hardy suddenly realises the song of the thrush in the falling darkness represents hope. The poet is in a pleasantly sad mood as he leans alone on the gate watching the century fade into darkness. But he clings on to the sad mood. He is addicted to it. The hopeful song of the bird adds a new mood. Hardy becomes aware for the first time that evening of a new hope of things to come. He realises that there is a reason to hope, without knowing what that reason is. It is clear that the thrush alone senses this hope and expresses it. This is probably nature s way of reminding him that spring always follows winter. Or it may be a spiritual message from nature. It is certainly uplifting. Themes Time Hardy sets the poem at sunset on the last day of the nineteenth century. He compares the sun to a weakening eye and this shows Hardy s regret at the fact that the day, year and century are ending at once. Hardy feels like it may be the end of the world. He shows his sorrow at the ending of the century by comparing the outline or silhouette of the land to a corpse, with the sky as the roof of a tomb. The darkness and the lifeless appearance of nature depress Hardy. He seems to feel that everything comes to an end: end of day, end of year, end of century and end of life. Time ... • 53. Arctic Ground Squirrel Research Paper Unlike temperate dwelling ground squirrels, arctic ground squirrels undergo a long hibernation seasons (six to eight months) and a relatively short active season. When ground squirrels begin their active season when environmental conditions are still harsh (Buck and Barnes 1999). Although conditions are harsh, male and female ground squirrels still undergo reproductionand produce offspring. Male and female ground squirrels differ in the timing of seasonally recurring life cycle events (Buck and Barnes 1999; Sheriff et al. 2011). Male ground squirrels end heterothermy earlier than females and remain sequestered in their hibernacula to undergo spermatogenesis while they consume a food cache. Males then emerge, engage in male male combat to gain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Mobility Impairment Significance and Background Mobility impairment has a significant impact on the health of elderly population. Between 2008 and 2012 more than ten million adults aged 65 and older reported to have difficulties in walking or climbing stairs1. According to statistical forecasts, older adults will make 20% of the U.S. population by 20302. Another population affected by movement disorders is patients with pathological gait. Parkinson s, cerebral palsy, sclerosis and stroke are among many neurological disorders that result in walking abnormalities. Parkinson s disease foundation reports that about 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with the disease each year. These demographics emphasize the urgency of addressing walking related healthcare issues by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Factor analysis has been used in previous research to extract muscle synergies and the relationship between muscle synergies and the speed of walking has been extensively investigated24 30. It has been shown that muscle synergies used by CNS in control of gait in healthy adults is similar when walking with different speeds or under different body mass. Analysis of synergies has also been applied to pathological gait and post stroke patients have shown fewer synergies compared to healthy subjects31. It is proposed that a few modules (up to 5) can explain muscle activations during walking in healthy subjects. The underlying assumption here is that modules reduce complexity of control for CNS and the application of synergies solves the problem of redundancy in the nervous system32, 33. It has been argued however in some other studies that the dimensionality of cortical activity is much higher than muscle activity and a system that can generate motor commands in a such high dimensional space is unlikely to get perplexed by the abundance of degrees of freedom at limb level34, 35. This means that the need to reduce number of degrees of freedom in control of gait is not justified. Another criticism to the application of muscle synergies is that the synergies might emerge as a result of the constraints of the task under study and not as a neural control ... • 55. Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of African American Students... Stereotypes can be defined as schemas applied to a group of people sharing common physical, biological or racial characteristics. Focusing on education, African American students had consistently been negatively stereotyped about their intellectual abilities. Research indicates that racial stereotypes negatively affect African American students academic performance. This correlation, though, is clearest among salient African American students, implying that psychological factors may result from these discriminations. African American children demonstrate early awareness of ethnic stereotypes and can identify some stereotypes about their group due to highly salient physical characteristics that may have forced them to face stereotypes at an early age. Shelvin, Rivadeneyra Zimmerman (2014) conducted an experiment on churches, after school and cultural enrichment programs with students aged between 10 to 12 years. One hundred and eighty six African American students from various social class levels took two tasks; the Stereotype Awareness task where they wrote all the stereotypes they know about their race, referring to the definition and example for stereotypes that were given to them on the top part of the answering paper and the Multidimensional Inventory of Black Identity Teen (MIBI) test was introduced where students defined their group identity, beliefs of others about them, and importance of their identity for self concept. Students results were mainly around seven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
