Architecture in the UK
We studied the bridges of Newcastle as they an iconic
symbols of the industrial heritage of our region. We looked
at the shape of supports for the bridges and the materials
and designs used to construct the bridges and the reasons
for the bridges to be built.
The children drew their own bridges and then set about
constructing them out of a wide range of materials
available in the class from Lego bricks, from wooden
block, paper and card.
We looked at the bridges in Morpeth and their design. There are
several older bridges in Morpeth some of which have been dam-
aged with flooding and have been strengthened recently

build strong bridges.
Northumberland has lots of stone built castle that are occupied
and some that are ruined. The are built on sites of defensive
importance and have been known as defensive sites for hun-
dreds of years. The castles have a rich history, featuring in
English and Scottish history a great deal. The fact they still sur-
vive is an indication that they were built in the most suitable lo-
cations and are of the strongest design.
